AwesomeKHfan 1,250 Posted December 20, 2016 Why after one game they just leave it at that and return to another game with a new world with characters? I understand why some people enjoy that but it is one thing about the Final Fantasy series I actually hate which makes me not start with multiple titles... And the turn based system I only liked it in FF7 LOL. If I buy a game I don't want them to throw away the characters which I got invested in and threat it like it never happened the next game, this is one of my main problems with the new Assassin's Creed games. It feels like the adventure never happened which I thank the creator to come up with Modern Day to put it in the game or else it doesn't feel like it didn't happen to me. 1 The 13th Kenpachi reacted to this

For me, that is arguably the best part about the entire franchise. You don't need to buy 10 other games before you play one, you can hop onto any (unlike Kingdom Hearts where, for about 11 years you had to buy like 4 different consoles). Every story being self contained makes it unique rather than having to worry about the next installment's plot or not retconning things. If one game has a bad plot they don't have to spend the next 5 games compensating. Go to the FF reddit and ask people what their favourite FF game is, you'll get so many different responses. With Kingdom Hearts it's typically KH2 or Birth By Sleep. Nothing wrong with that though. There is a Final Fantasy for everybody. As for it killing your enjoyment, almost every FF game has a sequel or a prequel 4 has the after years 5 has an anime OVA called Legend of the Crystals 7 has Crisis Core, Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, Before Crisis and the remake 10 has 10-2 and the audio dramas 12 has revenant wings 13 has an entire trilogy 15 had Kingsglaive and Brotherhood 1, 2 and 3 are all generic stories so they don't need them and 11 and 14 are MMOs so what's the point? 15-5=10, so out of the 10 that have real stories 7 of them have prequel and or sequel content. That's at the moment, 6, 8 and 9 may end up getting something if Square decide they want to do it. There's also this Square Enix Executive Producer Akitoshi Kawazu explained in issue 258 of Nintendo Power: “It wasn’t so much a personal decision as it was driven by the fact that the entire team had the mentality of wanting to challenge something new. Mr. [Hironobu] Sakaguchi who was leading development on Final Fantasy II, he said himself, ‘there’s no point in doing the same thing.” That was intended to mean we should keep trying to create new things, but the other side to it was that he was not completely satisfied with the first Final Fantasy." Oh and FF7 is not turn based, it uses the Active Time Battle System. I am alright with three games but 10 nope 1 The 13th Kenpachi reacted to this
Dave 5,715 Posted December 20, 2016 I completely disagree. One of the things about the games that makes them so likable is the variety of characters and settings that give you something different each time, while still retaining elements that keep it feeling like the same franchise. Not to mention that if you didn't like how a certain game panned out, you just had to wait until the next installment (another reason to dislike XIII is that it kept us stuck with the same characters and world for so long without being offered an alternative). 2 Sendou Aichi and Mystics Apprentice reacted to this
Headphone Jack 1,147 Posted December 20, 2016 it's actually nice when a story definitively ends. i like that about the FF games. you play through them, meet the characters, grow to care for them and then when the adventure is over it's time to say goodbye. part of what makes something special is the fact that it's finite. the fact that it ends makes the time you spend with it more valuable. i wouldn't want a sequel to FF9 because i enjoyed the original so much and can understand that the story is over. plus it's a great way to continually attract new fans by not requiring them to play all the previous games. Isaix 924 Posted December 21, 2016 I think its a good thing,it keeps things fresh and interesting and the games are long enough so that every main character gets enough screen time to know them all.And in the case of Final Fantasy most sequels aren't that great anyway like FFIV the After years,Final Fantasy X-2,FFXIII-2 or Dirge of Cerberus. You should give the series a shot, when you'll start playing you won't even think about that. 1 Sendou Aichi reacted to this
The Transcendent Key 12,109 Posted December 21, 2016 (edited) Well, I had found that odd as well in the first place, that though each Final Fantasy was numbered, they all had different characters and settings as a whole. But when I kept playing the different entries, I found that this was actually awesome! And in actuality, I think this is why Final Fantasy has stayed relevant for all these years! Each one has a new story that entices players, and fans get to choose which one in particular is their favorite entry! And even though the characters and settings change, many things from previous entries carry over, like summons, a character named Cid, creatures and the like! It adds diversity! Final Fantasy thrives on always bringing something new and unexpected to the table, ya know? And that's why it's succeeded and remains one of gaming's most enduring RPG series! I've played I, III, IV, Crisis Core, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XIII, XIII-2 and XV, and each one is amazing in it's own way! My number one favorite has to be Final Fantasy IV, though! It was the first Final Fantasy I played, and the one I love to death the most! IX is my second favorite, and I think XV will end up being my third favorite! But yeah, to the point, I think it's awesome that each Final Fantasy brings something different. Like the Tales games! They also operate in a similar manner! Sendou Aichi 2,356 Posted December 21, 2016 I like it that way. Having a game series this big with the same setting and characters would create a plot that is much more messed up than KH's. Not to mention that the sequels are pretty bad anyway. One of the main reasons why so many people hate the 13 series is because that it had freaking 2 sequels. 1 The 13th Kenpachi reacted to this
Mystics Apprentice 2,397 Posted December 21, 2016 That's actually one of the reasons that I'm so fond of Final Fantasy. While sometimes I am saddened that I won't see the further development of a cast of characters that I love (i.e. Final Fantasy VI), I actually really enjoy the fact that Final Fantasy has a new cast for each main title. The series still maintains a lot of the same gameplay functions and concepts (or at least for the most part, and mostly titles that come directly after another), but it has a fresh new world, plot, and characters. I find this especially nice if there's a Final Fantasy that I didn't care for, but there's others that I absolutely love. It keeps the series fresh and interesting for me, which I really like. There's always something new to look forward to, and to be honest I think things can become overkill when there's too many games featuring the same cast. It seems after one or two games there's really not much story left to tell with the same crew, and further pushing it no longer feels genuine and instead seems like more of a money-maker than actual story-telling. 2 The 13th Kenpachi and Sendou Aichi reacted to this
