Now, what is this area and what is it used for?

Recommended Posts

There are several gameplay videos of people going through that room, there's nothing inside those doors, not even colision detection and it was used for a cutscene in KHII FM.

But answering your question, it's probably ornamental or rooms where Xemnas investigated hearts, we just don't know.

Well, this is probably one of the things we might never find out!  Although, as Dave and Taco Dad pointed out, those rooms could have been the labs where Xehanort and the Apprentices conducted their experiments on the heart, ya know? Dare I say, maybe this is where Lea and Isa became Nobodies! :O

It's pretty interesting, when you think about it! :3

Indeed! Because Isa and Lea apparently became Nobodies on Radiant Garden! Since Lea returned to Radiant Garden when he was his whole self again, then it stands to reason that maybe he lost his heart in those labs in the first place! Isa was probably taken captive early on, and that's why he didn't show up with Lea and the others when they woke up!

The entire area was implied to be a lab the apprentice Xehanort had built away from the knowledge of Ansem the wise to conduct experiments on the heart. It was likely those experiments were conducted to further investigate the Apprentice Xehanort's heart (to find out more about his sealed memories?)

Those rooms that you see look like prison cells and was likely used to hold their 'sample' for which their experiments would be based upon. Why the chamber of repose is at the end of that corridor is beyond me.
