Stupidity and School Filters

Recommended Posts

What are stupid things on the filters on your school's internet?

Biggest one for me? YouTube is blocked. It's categorized as pornography. Which isn't even allowed on there, idiots. Also, it constantly leads to kids needing a teacher to override it so they can do some research or whatever. IT'S POINTLESS. IT'S HIGH SCHOOL. EVERYONE IS OLD ENOUGH TO BE ON YOUTUBE.

Also, they pretty much corrupted the hell out of Wikipedia. ALL images are blocked, leading to annoyance if you want to do a project or research on a school computer, and it also makes the pages look awful.

In my old secondary school they really went to town on blocking stuff, like even this site, although they probably blocked forums in general, youtube and other video hosting sites, Google images, Wikipedia ones to. But you can use something the school cock block but i cant remember it to well

Well I guess America just has messed up internet school policies, coz I'm able to go on Youtube and Wikipedia and every highschooler except yr 7er's can go on google images, so people at our school figured out a teachers password, and now only facebook is blocked :D

I dont have time to get on to the computers in my school.

I know how to get to Google Images without it being blocked though. I can probably find out some other things If I wanted to.

I go to a super-strict school--nothing's blocked, because they check your history every time you go on o.o You have to have teacher permission to get on, and the screens are positioned so the lab tech can see them all from her desk.

My school blocks the National Geographic site, CNN.com, Facebook, YouTube, most images on Google, and pretty much everything else. ._. Except, as I learned last year while doing a research project on Ecstasy, websites that specialize in selling drugs to minors.

GO FIGURE

youtube isn't censored in my school, but you need to fill out a form saying what you are going to be watching, what class it is for, how long its going to take, and what you are going to learn from it.

It's really stupid and if you go you off it for even a second (such as searching for said video) they kick you off.

Plus you have to fill out a form for each video you watch. It's a pain in the ass if you have to watch a video over 15 minutes.

facebook is censored as well. I don't really use it though but if you add an "s" and the end of "http" then you can bypass it.

Wifi can't be accessed on phones and ipods. You need a 20 character completely random password to get on. It took my friends and I about 3 years to crack it (thanks to the help of our epic tech teacher) but now they changed the password and we have to do it all over again.

Google was recently banned because of a few assholes searching for porn on it in the school infront of teachers and everything (these guys were textbook examples of morons). Now we have to use this really bad "school safe" search engine. You get none of the results you want and its painfully slow.

Ah yes. In Middle School they tried to push one of those too. They didn't block Google (but they blocked Google Images. -_-)

, but they wanted us to use this because for every search a dime was donated to the school or something like that.

Except on this search engine, images was not blocked, and I would always see these two kids in computer lab look up "adult" images, uncensored, unfiltered. Epic Fail much?

I hacked my schools filter, and I got to see whatever the hell I wanted.

But the filters were stupid. I remember I clicked on this one link that had Jesus' name in it, and it was blocked for "Blasphemy".

I laughed for a good 30 seconds when I read this. Oh the Irony.

Sometimes TinyURL works. It's weird because 50% of the time it works and 50% of the time it doesn't.

Because of the size of my school building, there are two servers but the networks interlock at a certain point. If your in one section completely TinyURL doesn't work or it does. If your in the section the overlaps its completely random.

I remember when I used to be in high school, I took the IT guy for a ride haha. All four years I was able to not only bypass the blockers, but completely disable them, and there was nothing he could do about it, and I probably cost this guy a couple hundred bucks just for new blocker software.

Er, I should say for three years I took this guy for a ride. My freshman year the woman we had got arrested for

fapping on the job. o.o

The filters are pretty much pointless. They block the sites nessecary for projects and leave alone the sites that really SHOULD be blocked. It's stupid as hell. -_-

This.

In the long run all that needs to be blocked are pornographic sites and such. It is 100% moronic to block YouTube. Any risque content there is filtered anyway.

Speaking of stuff like this, if you go on the computer at the library at my school, you get one of the obnoxious librarians breathing fire down your neck every 5 seconds, because, despite there being like, 30 computers, 20 of which are usually open at lunch, you can ONLY use those for working. Even when I went there to DO an assignment, she kept nagging me over ANYTHING.

That reminds me. In 7th Grade when I was in the class for the school magazine a girl was trying to do an article about Guns n Roses, and her search was filtered because of "violence".

A forum I tried to go on in Middle School was also filtered for violence
