Tails 6,692 Posted October 26, 2016 So this is a question that I've been wondering for a while now. But what do you personaly prefer when you want to watch a video guide on a specific game? I'm just curious to know what people personaly prefer. Do you prefer watching Let's Plays or a walkthrough with no commentary?
Sorarocks93 678 Posted October 26, 2016 I prefer Blind Let's Plays myself. It's awesome seeing people's reactions to the plot most of the time.
Ultima Spark 753 Posted October 26, 2016 Walkthroughs, because the vast majority of LPers are downright obnoxious in their manner of presentation (unsurprisingly, those tend to be the "popular" ones). 4 Headphone Jack, Anti-SOLDIER, Movies798 and 1 other reacted to this
dabestgamer 62 Posted October 27, 2016 When I want to watch a guide, I'd rather see a walkthrough by someone who knows what they're doing. But if I already know what to do, I'm more inclined to watch Let's Plays to see the player's reactions. Basically, for me, it depends on the situation. 1 Awesome Sauce reacted to this
KingdomHearts3 2,591 Posted October 27, 2016 Give me the walkthrough with NO guide especially if it's KH.
Anti-SOLDIER 68 Posted October 27, 2016 I can't stand Let's Plays. The people who talk during Let's Plays are so damn loud and annoying. I generally don't care about their opinion or their commentary. I just want to watch the game how it is.
Exilra 393 Posted October 27, 2016 I love watching Let's Players. They're most of the YouTubers I watch. I actually got into watching LPers from trying to look up a walkthrough for a game I needed help with on YouTube and found a blind LP on it. I enjoyed watching it and found other LPers I liked from there. I love listening to the commentary cuz they often talk about funny stuff and them talking also causes them to mess up at times and it's funny watching them try to keep up the commentary while not failing. If I want to watch one for a game I need help getting through though, it depends. If a LPer I watched LPed it, then I'll watch that LP. But if none of the LPers I watch did an LP on it, then it depends. I'll first try to find an LP and see if they commentary is interesting/helpful. If all I can find is boring and/or annoying commentary, then I'll just look up a walkthrough.
Silent 824 Posted October 27, 2016 I'd much rather play a game myself. But when i need help, walkthroughs are nice.
Geralt 4,874 Posted October 27, 2016 Walkthroughs with no commentary. I can only stand very few people when it comes to commentary on the YouTubes. Not a fan of commentary.
Dracozombie 4,554 Posted October 27, 2016 When I need a guide or information, I prefer a general walkthrough with no commentary, unless that commentary is VERY informed and the voice doesn't annoy me -- RohamMythril my go-to example for this if you've heard of him. I watch LPs when I just wanna have some fun, but I'm very very VERY picky about who I watch. Back then, when I mainly used gameplay videos as guides, I thought peoples' commentary got in the way of the experience and just wanted them to shut up. But then I caught whiff of PewDiePie's videos, and even though I stopped watching him after a while, it was the first time I realized that commentary can actually be entertaining. Right now I mainly just watch Markiplier and the Game Grumps, along with a few miscellaneous channels, and I think I'm picky because being a good LPer (rather, being an LPer I'd want to watch) is hard to pull off. Some people just aren't that great at talking, have a voice you don't particularly enjoy listening to, aren't good or at least entertaining as a gamer, or some combination. One of the main reasons I watch LPers like Markiplier and the Grumps is that I actually enjoy listening to them. Markiplier admittedly was an acquired taste. I though his voice was too, well, powerful for the kinds of spooky atmospheric games he tends to play, but since I was interested in the games themselves, I gave more of his videos a chance and I've stuck with him since. And the Grumps aren't that great of gamers while on the camera, but their commentary usually makes up for it unless they're really messing around. Headphone Jack 1,147 Posted October 27, 2016 if i'm looking up something like an item location guide or whatever i'll always go for a walkthrough, or just a gameplay video with no commentary. i actually stopped watching a lot of LPs since they all seem to be obnoxious. lots of the popular LP'ers all act like cartoon characters with wacky voices and facial expressions and it just strikes me as forced. i'm sure younger children make up a good part of their audience and so they tend to cater towards that demographic. that being said, not all LP'ers do act this way. just the insanely popular ones. ChipCheezum does solid LPs and puts a ton of effort into them. MatthewMatosis also does an occasional gameplay commentary video where he discusses interesting facts and information about whatever game he is showing. I think the most recent one he did was on the first Devil May Cry game. it's very informational and i think that's a sign of a quality LP. i prefer it when the person doing commentary can give interesting facts or insights on the game and it's not just a very bad and long observational humor bit. Hero of Light XIV 2,381 Posted October 27, 2016 So this is a question that I've been wondering for a while now. But what do you personaly prefer when you want to watch a video guide on a specific game? I'm just curious to know what people personaly prefer. Do you prefer watching Let's Plays or a walkthrough with no commentary? It really depends what I'm after, guidance or entertainment. When it comes to having a visual guide so that I can know what to do in my copy of the game, or to just indulge in the experience of the game without owning my own copy, I would typically go for a walkthrough, particularly with no commentary, I kind of find it annoying sometimes. But if I'm looking more to be entertained, particularly with a game I'm already familiar enough with, then I will look for a Let's Play, since the main draw of those is really the personality of the player playing the game. I think the idea is to suit your tastes at the time, so I don't really prefer one over the other, I just prefer different ones at different times depending on what I want at that time. Sendou Aichi 2,356 Posted October 27, 2016 When using a video as a guide- Either let's plays, but the LPer knows and explains stuff(Chuggaaconroy's Xenoblade LP) or walkthroughs. For games that I won't play(either because I can't get it or because it is too bad, in which case LPs can be pretty funny) I just watch an LP.
Marionetta 14 Posted October 28, 2016 I'm usually very picky about Let's Plays. The person doing them has to have a pleasant voice and calm demeanor. I don't like loud people. That's kind of why I don't like Pewdiepie or Jacksepticeye. They're very loud and abrasive. However, I don't mind Game Grumps. Probably because they're funny. Commentary-less walkthroughs are preferable, mostly because I don't usually care for listening to people talk.
