clatter411 75 Posted September 30, 2016 So like many people in here, I downloaded Unchained X when it released and started playing it. I've been playing it on and off since then taking many extended breaks because I find myself frustrated with the gameplay and the long time for the story to even begin. Also like most app games it seems to be pay to win. Getting enough jewels for any of the medal deals without purchasing them is difficult and there's never a guarantee you'll get a great one. Adding on the fact that I'm a university student and don't have much disposable income, I can't spend any money in the game anyway. (Not that I would even if I had money, since I'm against the idea of micro transactions in games) So do you think it's worth it to play, or would it just be more sensible to watch the English translation of the Japanese version on YouTube? While ideally I'd like to finish it, the micro transactions and slow pacing make it pretty unbearable.
Hero of Light XIV 2,381 Posted September 30, 2016 Is it worth playing? Yes, yes it is. Is it worth paying? Ehhhh.....well, while you could F2P it, it's kind of inevitable to purchase certain things if you want to go farther, but you could still extremely limit the money you put down on it. If you wanted to you could just focus on the story missions and that's it, only making purchases that are absolutely necessary. I guess my answer summed up: Yes, it's worth playing, but pay at your own risk. 1 SpeedRave reacted to this
PillowHead 569 Posted September 30, 2016 Paying is absolutely not necessary, but it does help. I personally haven't put anything into the game, and I still have a decent time with it.
Steeghs 56 Posted September 30, 2016 The thing is if you are just for the story or want i little play time before going to school. (or work) Then ill say go for it but. If you want to be the best our want every medal then its not relly worth it. But that is how i play.
AaySquare 445 Posted September 30, 2016 I think it is worth it. Play it for the story if nothing else. Story quests later on do become quite difficult to beat if you don't have great medals. You can definitely progress in the game as a free to play player but you need to spend your Jewels wisely as Jewels are scarce in the game. If you want to be competitive then spending money does helps but it's not necessary at all. Basically just play the game for fun. But if you're not having fun then not worth it. CChaos 0 Posted October 1, 2016 (edited) This game is not worth playing unless you are willing to pay (become a whale) or spend the excessive time required from a F2P/C2P player to keep up with the game. Sadly it is a KH game with an actual story, but has a flaw where the English version is purposefully held back while the Japanese version remains superior in every way. This game is best played with hundreds of expendable dollars on a weekly or monthly basis, otherwise just read about the story once it has been completed (or watch it on youtube). clatter411 75 Posted October 3, 2016 Yeah that's what has been troubling me. Normally when I play any game I'm a completionist, and while I have no intention of collecting all medals, I do want to complete all of the objectives in all of the missions which is really not possible if you don't have really good medals. I am primarily playing the game for the story however. I'll attempt to slug through it and hope things start to develop. Thanks for everyone's replies. Connected 978 Posted October 3, 2016 The futher you become the more the game becomes ''Pay To Win'' 1 soraspromise reacted to this
Karistan 0 Posted October 4, 2016 The more you don't play, the more you'll lose your chance to go on. There are been tons of chances to wisely spend Jewels, just throwing them was a bad idea. I lost my hopes to get Tier4 medals and I'm going on with guaranteed medals and skills... you should have spent Jewels on EMC when Roxas&Axel&Xion was the reward, because that medal alone can make a huge difference, it's between an Epic and a Premium medal (I have one in any Keyblade, and sometimes even two or three). Otherwise just on good Deals, like the one with Pooh and Piglet, the one with Belle and Cogsworth, and the guaranteed Mickey Black Coat. Right now a guilted HT Goofy on +25 Olympia/Treasure Trove can deal 3~4 bars of damage on Speed enemies for 6k Jewels...
sneakie1 36 Posted October 4, 2016 Not really playing, just read up on the lore and you are good. The gameplay gets so repetetive after a while and at a certain point you will hardly be able to progress because the monsters get hilariously strong. Also its an obnoxious cashgrab. Ferrox 12 Posted October 8, 2016 For jpux, yes, definitely, for naux, no, not at all.

And here is the issue with the way that you're looking at the game. You're treating it like a console title. Free to play games are not designed for completionists. Firstly, there is always going to be new content added to the game henceforth defeating the purpose, but more importantly, some items and events become no longer available (for example the Zootopia medals and outfits), therefore, you cannot 100% everything for the game. My advice, just play it in bitesized chunks. Once you run out of AP. Take a break. You've got other things to entertain you whilst your AP loads. KeybladeMasterDeadpoolio 55 Posted October 12, 2016 No, this game is absolutely not worth it. First of all, you have to buy Jewels with real money so you can maybe get good medals and even if you can somehow afford it, it's still luck and more times than not it's going to screw you over. And eventually it's going to either completely crash on you or there will be an update bug that makes it completely unplayable which is why I've just recently dropped it. Xiro 3,468 Posted October 12, 2016 Is it fun to play? Uh... Sometimes? Will you be missing anything from watching videos instead of playing? No, I don't think so. For a free-to-play player, EXP and evo material medal grinding can be a chore. Jewel accumulation is pretty slow as well. And more often than not you'll get bad RNG when drawing for medals and get more Donalds or something. All that makes progression slow at times, especially with other things like story bosses with difficulty spikes and events that give rewards to the top-ranking people (*cough*HighScoreChallenge*cough*Coliseum*cough*) Then there's the issue of time. Grinding takes time. The weekend Raid Bosses take an hour or two. And if you don't grind enough or miss a day for a certain EXP/evo medal type, it contributes to the slow progression, which usually isn't fun. As a uni student, you'll usually have other things to do. The more you don't play, the more you'll lose your chance to go on. Right now a guilted HT Goofy on +25 Olympia/Treasure Trove can deal 3~4 bars of damage on Speed enemies for 6k Jewels... I'll admit that JP has some crazy medals that we haven't gotten yet, so waiting for them would seem like a smart idea, but if waiting a while results in staying stagnant for a long time, then there isn't really a point in playing. Besides, having more and more medals in the draw pool makes it harder to get the medals you want, aside from the two times when there was a guaranteed medal (KH2 Cloud and BC Mickey). Also, iirc AkuRokuXion was a reward for having one of the SP medals, which is hard given how bad the RNG is. (It might have been a High Score reward too but then there's the issue of being able to rank high enough for it.) Same with the TAV medal; you needed the Illustrated version medals. And then HT Goofy was on that Avatar Board. Guaranteed, but still costs a lot of Jewels. TBH HD Aqua and Jack have been godsends, but they're few and far between.
