Seth Kearsley, the director and writer of the scrapped animated series for Kingdom Hearts posted an image of a tape with footage from the show. You can find an image of the tape below:

Seth then went on to speak with Twitter user @SHIELD_DRAWS, who asked several questions about the scrapped series as well as the possibility of an animated series tie-in with Kingdom Hearts III, referencing the Brotherhood anime that was produced for Final Fantasy XV.

Seth went on to explain that all characters were voiced by their original voice actors and had completed recording with the exception of Sora, who was to be voiced by a sound-alike for Haley Joel Osment. Seth also answered that he has talked with Walt Disney Animation Studios about the possibility of another project, but that there doesn't seem to be much interest at the current time.

Do you think there should be an animated series or any sort of other tie-in produced with Kingdom Hearts III? Let us know in the comments!

What I really want is a Kingdom Hearts anime based on the manga which is simply amazing. It portrays the characters a lot more human and combines great comedy with some actions scenes that could be developed way better by adding in some extra animation.

Did Pan Pizza prompt this, too??

I saw his video. I was thinking the same thing to contact Seth after watching the video.

Also I have a few ideas for him, but i better not. xD

Highly agree with this. There's a reason why they've kept the same directors on the game and that's because they do an amazing job. The manga does a great job at adapting the cutscenes and definitely brings the goofy humour of Disney out while still covering all the underlying messages of the story.

My fear of a completely Disney-run animation is that it might focus too much on the kids aspect and less on content that can also be aimed at maturer audiences.

No, let this project die, the only interesting thing about this was going to be the fact that they were going to use the original background art from the movies, but this project would be sooooo dumbed down for a western audience especially since it will most likely be targeted towards kids and not actual fans of the games.

...let Square handle the heavy (read: important) stuff for the series, because somehow I doubt Disney proper's abilities to treat it well if they intervene more than is strictly necessary.

(if there's a double post from me, then delete this one because there seems to be some sort of glitch in the system)

I hate to ruin everything, but Seth Kearsley stated he has approached Disney multiple times asking about the Kingdom Hearts animated series, and they have expressed very little interest according to him. I guess the industry just isn't interested in a KH series.

EDIT: It would be nice to see the footage, though, considering it's all the way from 2003.

Thanks for this article, Sora'spromise! :D

It's interesting that we keep hearing about this project now and again!  I wonder how it would've looked like had it been greenlit?

But honestly, if there were to be a KH series, I would love it to be an anime adaption!  Now that would be insane!  It could be an adaption of the video games, or it could be its own thing, or it could be something that leads into Kingdom Hearts III, sort of like how Brotherhood ties into Final Fantasy XV! :D

I don't know, a KH anime like Brotherhood would be interesting, but I can see it being ruined by dumbing down, or rehashing something we've seen already.

I'd prefer a tie in to a game adaption: After the game, novel, and manga, the KH 1 story has been beaten to death. An original story, or something that connects the games we've never seen before would be great.
