Kingdom Hearts 3: Final Mix. Will It Happen?

Recommended Posts

This is a question I (and a lot of us) have had for quite some time now and I wanted to know what you guys thought about this possibility.

For me, the answer is YES, without a doubt in my mind.  Before, I had hope that all of us would be able to experience the game in its entirety when KH3 releases, but after seeing how much SE is willing to pander to their Japanese audience with KHUX, those hopes went down the toilet.  In my mind, they wont give us the whole game at first, since they could re-release it a few years after KH3 releases and make more money off of us.

What do you guys think?  Do you believe it will happen? If it does, how would you feel about it?

Me, I would be incredibly disappointed

Please Be Excited

I'd like to think that at this point, as far as Final Mix content goes, they might actually consider just putting as much into KH3 as possible and just releasing it that way to everyone to spare themselves the trouble. I mean, they already know that they're going to make a lot of money off of this, they've been hyping this game up for years now, there wouldn't be much reason for it. But again, considering SE's history, it is still somewhat of a possibility that they might just cave in and make a Final Mix anyway. However, I still have hope that maybe they might just consider making the Final Mix content available to everyone this time around, I mean they already went through the trouble of localizing the Final Mixes with 1.5 and 2.5, international consumers are now officially aware that the Final Mixes exist now, whether they knew before 1.5 and 2.5 or not, and now there's more eyes on Kingdom Hearts 3 than ever before. So they're likely to notice if suddenly SE decides to rerelease a better version of the game for Japan only, and they will throw a fit over it.

My point is, if they are even willing to go so far as to rake for more money with a Final Mix as opposed to just making KH3 a full game while they still have the gift of not having a release window yet (seriously, it's not like they'd be delaying it or anything, for all we know it could come as early as Xmas 2017 or as late as summer vacation 2018), there'd be no point in not trying to maximize that profit by making that an international release too. A Final Mix isn't the same thing as the stuff they're doing in Unchained X (it still stems from the same problem, Japanese favoritism, but the ways in which it is expressed are different), those are tweaks to a server that could easily be fixed at any time, a Final Mix is a full release of a game with a price point attached to it. There'd be far more incentive to sell KH3 Final Mix to everyone as opposed to making sure everyone has the exact same experience in Unchained X, it would yield far more direct profits.

So I guess you could say I'm being a bit more optimistic towards this, but that's mostly because I think that in this day and age making something like a Final Mix and isolating it to Japan only while everyone knows it exists is a really risky and potentially boneheaded business action to make, especially if the whole idea behind it is to make more money off the Kingdom Hearts 3 name.

I dont necessarily disagree with what you are saying, but I am far less optimistic.  Don't get me wrong, I hope you are 100% correct, but I felt like releasing the Final Mix versions in 1.5 and 2.5 were such a huge step in the right direction when it came to how they viewed their international audience, only to take a massive step back with they way they've handled KHUX and it makes me worry about how much content we could possibly miss out on due to their favoritism toward their Japanese Audience.

That being said, you make really good points and have given me doubt (a little) that this might happen.  They have had many opportunities to fix these problems in KHUX and if Tai Yasue is telling the truth that they listen to their fans, that just means they hear us but are ignoring us.

But back on topic.  This game is under a huge microscope because of how long we've been teased, you're right, but will any of that matter since they know we will buy the game regardless of content?  I just have a bad feeling about it am preparing myself to be disappointed.  I hope I'm wrong, but its so difficult to tell until they come out and tell us that there will be no content taken out of the international versions

Well, look at it this way, the problem in itself may be a solution as well. Yeah they know that we will buy the product regardless of what they do...but doesn't the PS4 not have a region lock? What's to stop us from just buying the Japanese exclusive Final Mix anyway and just going off of fan translations for new content? We've been through all this before, we can survive this like we always have, it's not the end of the world. I understand the principle of what you're trying to say, but the fact of the matter is that regardless of the circumstances, we always manage to find a way to enjoy whatever content there is for KH to the fullest we can, and we have plenty of dedicated fans and content creators and translators to make that happen. We won't have an official experience, but that's never stopped us before. Of course I'd prefer they just make things easier for everyone and just give everybody everything, but I realize that even in the worst case scenario we'll still have some kind of access to this stuff.

No, there's no reason for it. The only reason Final Mixes existed in the first place is because there was no way to download further content through the PS2. You can expect DLC though, that's for sure.

Then why didn't they release the content in BBSFM as DLC instead of making a Final Mix?

They were able to provide DLC for Dissidia and 012 back when it was released which was around the same time as BBS.

Anyway there WILL be a KH3 Final Mix. Whether or not it will be Japanime exclusive is the bigger question.

Nope. The PS4 disc and memory can hold so much more memory. There is no reason to have a Final Mix version. Plus, there is an overwhelming amount of story to cover so with that in mind, I don't see why there would be a Final Mix version at all.

Unless Square decides to make a bunch of small DLC packs and then compile them into one season pass or ignore the rest of the world and prioritize japan, I don't think a Final Mix will happen. It'd be pretty stupid and ignorant to make another version of a game with more content while having it only on japan, especially after the trouble they went through to make the HD Remixes.

I think it will happen as either a complete separate $60USD game or a $15USD DLC updating vanilla KHIII (like how Capcom handled the updates of Street Fighter IV during the previous generation)

There will be a season pass or DLC or whatever, and they might call the inevitable "GOTY" edition a "final mix", so in a way, it's a possibility. But there won't be exclusive content available to Japan, or whatever, so not in the sense you're thinking.

The time for Final Mixes is over.
DLC is the way to go now and I want it that way. I don't want small patches released now and then, just a big patch with everything.

Doesn't matter how much complete a game seems to be, there's always room to add more content.
KH Final Mix and especially KH2 Final Mix, are two completely different games from their original counterparts.

To the point I can't go back the original versions, because they just feel incomplete to me now.

Maybe if it's bundled with the other main numbered titles in the series (think Kingdom Hearts Master Collection) and they make it a bundle-exclusive type deal, where a few keyblades, costumes, etc. come free with the bundle while the other versions have to download the additional content. But definitely no standalone Final Mix.

Please no dlc.... Call me old fashioned if ya want, but KH3 final Mix would be light years better than lame DLC... I hate downloading games, even parts of games. I want physical copies of them.

Final Mix is the equivalent of a DLC back when consoles couldn´t download updates.

Honestly, I vote on a no!  With all the years we've been waiting on Kingdom Hearts III, and with Nomura teasing us that the game is overwhelmingly big, having a Final Mix release after the main game comes out would be kind of stupid!  I mean, what's the use of hyping up the game if it won't be complete?  Heck, Nomura cut off 0.2 from Kingdom Hearts III, because it was going to be a part of KHIII's story!  But due to how big KHIII is, 0.2 was separated into 2.8!  Now, if we get the game and find out it's not even complete, then that'll seriously suck, ya know?

In this day and age, when we've finally gotten the Final Mixes of the previous games in our hands, I think it's time to put a stop to Final Mixes!  Since Kingdom Hearts III is set to be the grand finale of the Xehanort Saga, it should make no attempt to not pull all the stops, because after years of hype and anticipation, we want to see a complete game, not an incomplete game, ya know?

So yeah, no, no Final Mix for this Keyblade Wielder!

"No. Not possible."

(Couldn't resist. xD)

Ha, I see what you did there! xD

in this modern age of DLC and post release game patches i don't see why a Final Mix for KH3 would ever happen.

i could imagine SE releasing DLC for the game and then when they've finished with that they would release some kind of Ultimate Edition of the game or something.

cause let's face it, it sure won't be a Game of the Year Edition lol

I honestly wouldn't be surprised that they'll put out a Japan only Final Mix 3 because boneheaded business decisions seem to be the name of the game with Japanese game companies these days (Capcom, Konami, and Sega, I'm looking at you). Hell, it wouldn't be the first time Square Enix have messed up either.

I feel like people dont understand that this^ is more what my question was aiming toward.  Im not asking if there will be patches or DLC.  When I said "Final Mix" I meant a complete game that is only released in Japan while the rest of us gets a different version thats only 80-85% of the game.  Kingdom Hearts II: Final Mix had a lot more content in it than KH2 Vanilla that we received.  Im more asking do you think it will be a possibility that Japan receives the complete version while we have a less complete copy.

History says Yes, but it doesnt necessarily mean it will happen, I just think theyve given us no indication that it wont happen

I pray that there ISN'T a final mix, because just picture this...

Kingdom Hearts 3 gets released, and us non-japanese people are happy and enjoying the heck out of it, and then 2 months later, word gets out that they're making Kingdom Hearts 3: Final Mix, so after all these years, us people who can't understand japanese or live in Japan are slighted again, and then we have to await Kingdom hearts 3.4 Super HD Remix for PS5 so we can play THAT while we wait for KH4 on the PS6, and it's just a neverending cycle!!!

So, NO. NO final mixes anymore. It'd be a total jerk move for square to get our hopes up, only for us to find out that, once again, we're not getting the full Kingdom Hearts III. I'd rather have dlc, so at least those of us who can't import games from Japan at least have a CHANCE to get the full experience, but optimally, there wouldn't even be DLC, we'd actually just get the complete game from the start, but sadly, i don't see that being a thing in this money-driven day and age of gaming.
