Tai Yasue comments on Kingdom Hearts III's development, now making new attractions and Keyblade transformations

Tai Yasue, the co-director of the Kingdom Hearts series has commented on Kingdom Hearts III's development in a developer survey with 4Gamer.net. Yasue states that the development team have now gotten the hang of developing with Unreal Engine 4, the structure of the development team has been worked out and the game's look has been decided upon. Earlier this year, Square Enix posted job applications for various roles in Square Enix's third business division (Osaka) so it would seem Square Enix has successfully filled them all. He also states development is moving forward and that they will now be focusing on new attractions and Keyblade transformations with more information coming in 2015. You can read his comments below, in full thanks to Gematsu.

“Now that we’ve worked out Unreal Engine 4 as our development environment, as well as the general structure of the team and fresh new look for the game and its accompanying shader, development of Kingdom Hearts III is moving forward as we now focus on making things like new Attractions and Keyblade transformations. We’re hoping to be able to show our fans the fruits of these labors step by step during 2015, so stay on the lookout for more information!”

Good. This is good. Now that the foundation is set, they now will start the easy stuff and hopefully, we'll see the fruit of their labor next year.

Oh yes, next year will be an awesome year to be a Kingdom Hearts fan!  This is going to be delicious!  I am loving this!  I'm really glad that development is going smoothly!  Hopefully we won't have to wait for the middle of next year to see new info on the game! :D

I'm liking that they're giving more information on development these days, even if it's just little updates like this. Makes waiting a lot easier.

Yeah, it feels like SE is trying to do what Sakurai did with SMash bros Wii U/3DS. Giving the fans minor updates daily to tie them over until the full games releases.

They basically said:

We are officially at 0% completion.

Before now they didn't even start.

Pretty much. They've only just gotten the structure of the team finished and decided on the look. Doesn't take two years to develop a game like this any more. Holiday 2017 at the earliest.

If they just started doing it, then i'll probably won't expect kingdom hearts 3 to be released in 2016. A late 2018 release date is possible in my opinion.

I highly doubt that they are at 0%

Highly doubt they just started actually working on the game, Im still pretty sure we will get it the game at the beginning of 2016 or end of 2016 at the latest

2017 seems too long I'm sure it will be out before that

They've done hardly anything though and it takes a lot longer to develop games like that now.

Well they've had to of done something because if they haven't done anything then we wouldn't be getting new info next year, I think they might be at 20-30%

They've definitely done some work, it's certainly not 0%, but I wouldn't expect much to be done- they only just got used to working with a new game engine, after all.

I can't wait to see what keyblade transformations they come up with! I'm really excited!

Lets not argue and insult one another. Also we cannot continue the argument that just happened.

I'm still hoping for a Fall/Late 2016 release date, would love for KHIII to be one of my first PS4 games.

(since I doubt I'll own a PS4 before Christmas 2016)
