A representative from Square Enix has told a website specialized in RPGs that Birth By Sleep, the latest installment of the franchise that has seen the light on Japanese territory, it could well have been called Kingdom Hearts III, such is the magnitude of the project.

I actually remember reading about this some other time. Don't remember if it was an official source, but everyone knew that if BBS was under the name "KH3," nobody would've noticed otherwise. It was pretty obvious since the beginning that it would set up the events in KH1, and that was enough for it to be labelled as a main title, even more so when Nomura said that it's KH0.

If you think about it, KH and KH2 have been on consoles, not handhelds like BBS and days. I think that for a game to be worthy of the title -KH3, it has to be on console (however I think BBS deffo looks like one of the best games so far)

Edit: I don't count re:com since i think of it as part of the KH2:fm+ release
