I've heard many people call it X-Blade and some words about it too, so I thought to post my opinion. I don't know if Square Enix or anyone else said anything about it, this is just my opinion:

This "X" from the ?-blade is basically the Greek X, "?" and it is pronounced "hee", but since it's a little hard to pronounce "hee" they say "key" instead.

Remember, this is just my opinion, dunno if Square Enix said anything.

yeah ok then

I think, given both Xehanort and Braig's intentions, X in names could very well describe the meaning of this. Or, at least be inspired by it. Looking it up though I thought the X was used to symbolize the soul of the worlds.

Yes, the X in the X-Blade is the Greek X (Chi) pronounced either Key or Kye (?ka?)

SE properly named the X-blade the X-Blade for two reason, to give a reason for why all the Organization members have X in their name, and to have the X-Blade to be pronounced like the Keyblade. Why pronounce the X-blade like the Keyblade? Maybe because it's a legendary Keyblade so they wanted this Keyblade to be pronounced Keyblade, but they didn't want to name this Keyblade for just The Keyblade, so it got the name X-Blade but is still pronounced like the Keyblade...

JTD95, you took away the words from my mouth!

Yeah, that's correct

huh is that what happened braig told the other nobodies in the organization about"x" so the added it in the mixed around names.:) lol

The reason for why they add the X to their names is because of Master Xehanort's interest in the X-Blade. It has nothing to do with Braig...

But Xehanort's relationship with Braig/Xigbar made him No. II in the Organization.

Oh and they chose the Greek letter ? because it was the easiest way to find a reason to pronounce it "key", when it's pronounced "hee", "huu" or "hii"(You know, exactly like "h" from hit is pronounced), I presume?

No. It is not pronounced "hee" or "huu" or "hii," it is pronounced "key" or "kye." It's been explained many times, quit overlooking the facts in favor of your opinion.

It's pronounced Key or Kye in Kingdom Hearts. In latin it's hee.

At least, that's what I got from the OP.

doesn't kye or chi mean energy?Energy Blade makes sense...i guess =D

I though it meant like... balanced energy, or Synergy.

Don't say that. I'm from Greece, so I know better than you. Proof you aren't Greek? Your post <_<

But this "kye", "chi" or whatever Xehanort says about it in the Keyblade Graveyard is still unexplained...

I'm guessing the word is based on the letter, but is still unique to the Kingdom Hearts Universe.

The Japanese pronounce ? like "key", whereas in English, we pronounce it like "kai". The ?-blade was originally intended to be a pun on Keyblade, so instead of changing the pronunciation, they stuck with the original to retain the concept.

Oh look, I found the interview:
