  1. Congrats to the winner and runner-ups! VexenReplica, keep on writing ------------ definitely. For your first piece, I think you have a lot of potential.
  2. Okay. Thank you. Yes, I kind of over-reacted.... I knew I may not have the time to come back on time so I just let it go like that (---- meaning, counting for tonight's midnight toll). I know have less than half an hour to midnight.... *starts typing* I'm no longer in school for a long time, but procrastinating with a fic... This is new.
  3. I'm a veteran of fan-fiction lore. In a lot of my stories, I use "memories" as one of the main themes, however, I wanted to take a crack at this challenge. Since I've been pretty busy, I didn't really have much time to work on this. I will not submit this (a.k.a. post a link in that thread), because: it's unfinished, my laptop's dying and it's now way past the deadline time. The deadline was 12 A.M., EST, correct? I belive I'm late for that so oh well. This was fun. This fic uses friendship very subtely, but due to the time, I will not get there. It is also a slight theory mixed fic for me, so, see it as a "what if" type of story. Warning: Spoilers up to Dream Drop Distance Words = thoughts 11/2/14 daytime update: My laptop died before I could fully edit through what I had. I was copy/pasting this from Word so I ran out of time spacing out my paragraphs. :0 Now that it's done, I will slowly vanish. 11/3/2014 nighttime update: ;__; I finally fixed the paragraphs that I overlooked. Apparently, I missed something. Darn it. Good thing I never posted a link over there. *hides away* -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Road to Dawn's 7 Lights --------------------------------------------------------- “What is it that you’re so afraid of, Sora?” The voice of an older boy floated hauntingly into the ear of a sleeping teenager, who predictably woke up as soon as he heard it. “Riku!?” the boy yelled out as he quickly sat up. His face froze. All around him was darkness, which was all too familiar to him at this point in time. He was no longer on Destiny Islands snuggled warmly under his bed. A few seconds passed before the shock of where he was faded from his face. He slowly stood up and walked around the small circular area that he was standing on. It was clearly a tall and round stain-glass window that towered over a bottom-less darkness, but unlike the windows of his past dreams, this one was blank. Literally, there were no colors, or even a picture on it. It was as if he was standing on a white canvas just waiting for someone to draw something onto it. All of a sudden, there was a gut-wrenching feeling in the boy’s stomach. He sensed something was coming, but he didn't know when or where it will come from. The spikey brown-haired teenager furrowed his eye-brows as he peered into the abyss of the darkness. Then, without warning, it started in an unseen way. Sora took a few steps back as if something invisible covered his entire head and into his mind. These strange memories. The voices. The names. These elements were followed with a rush of strenuous emotions that felt very deja’vu to the boy. He remembered hearing and seeing them before when he was in Twilight Town with Hayner, Pence and Olette. Wait, Twilight Town? Which one? The real one? The fake one? Or, the time he woke up in the Mansion's basement with Donald and Goofy? No wait, it wasn’t Twilight Town. The World That Never Was? The boy immediately placed a pause on his thoughts. His bright blue eyes widened at the horror. Was he reliving some of Roxas’s memories? Sora clearly remembered Hayner, Pence and Olette as residents of Twilight Town, but never really hanged out with them. However, Roxas was the one who saw them more than he, himself. The brown-haired boy felt like he was about to drown in some kind of madness. This time, some of them felt very vivid enough that they were starting to blend in with his own. Stop it! What’s going on!? Could this be Roxas’s doing again? Didn’t Sora tell him, the last time he saw him, that he’s his own person. That he’s “he”. Not as “Sora”. “But, could it truly be that simple?” an older man’s voice interrupted his worried thoughts that doubled served as jolting Sora out of whatever was suddenly going through his brain. Sora turned around to see a black warp hole floating a couple of feet away from him. Standing in front of the warp hole was a red robed man with one hole over one of his eyes. Sora looked at him in disbelief. “DiZ!? …I mean, Ansem!” “Am I him? Or, a fragment of memory of the man you think is him?” “…….It doesn’t make any sense. I saw you die,” Sora stared suspiciously at the newcomer. “What do you mean?” He slowly lifted his right arm up with his fingers stretching for the air. Nothing formed from his palm. No inch of magic in sight, thus, no keyblade. “You might want to ask the real Ansem when you see him again,” the DiZ-look alike crossed his arms. “I’m just the messenger. Think of me as one of the hidden ‘gifts’ that Ansem the Wise inserted into you.” Once that was said, everything from the letter to Yen Sid’s dawned on Sora. The boy felt like he got doused in cold water. “Then, what should I call you? Data-DiZ?” “Anything you want, Sora. I am nothing, but fabrics of code. Once my purpose has been fulfilled, I will return to whence I came-----.” “No! You’re not! I know you’re not just a piece of ‘nothing’! Everything, everyone, has a heart within them.” Sora couldn’t believe he’s having this kind of conversation again. He had enough of it that interrupting DiZ’s copy was his immediate reaction. “Your fairytale optimistic outlook is nothing but words to me. Please just accept my existence as is and let me progress with what I have to say to you.” “…..Erg… Really just like Roxas….,” a bead of sweat dripped down Sora’s cheek as muttered those words. “No, there’s actually a difference, Sora. I was implemented inside of you in the case that you haven’t fully accepted Roxas into your heart.” “What? I don’t understand…..” “You may have seen him as another person for the entire length that you knew him as. However, he is you. A part of you.” “A part of me, but someone who can become his own-----….” “I don’t mean to demean your repetitive goal, however…,” DiZ’s data copy interrupted with a slight chuckle, “…there is very little you understand about the true relationship between the body and the heart. True, ‘you don’t understand.’ Perhaps, this is where my original’s bias sprouted from?” Sora couldn’t understand whether that ending question was for DiZ’s copy or for Sora, himself. The boy stood motionless as he watched the data copy take a few steps towards him. Words were trying to form inside his mind, but nothing could reach his mouth. If this was a normal type of dream, he would gladly love to wake up about now. “So, boy, please spare me some of your time to officially hear what I have to say. You will fulfill what Ansem expects of you as that is your mission. One, who bears the keyblade. You will meet your allies and various foes. By this point, I believe you’ve been acquainted with the legend of the Seven Lights and Seven Darkness? Do not trust all that is what it seems when it comes to those, who dwell within. Find Chirishii and accept a special package he has for you.” “Find who?” Sora was finally able to blurt out something, but this was one question he didn’t expect to convey. “Chirishii, servant of Kingdom Hearts.” “Can you explain more in detail as to who this Chirishii person is? Where do I find him?” “In a land that’s soaked in perpetual dawn, however, the shadows lurk wherever dawn’s light cannot reach.” “?” Before Sora could ask further, a shining blue light appeared between him and DiZ’s data copy. The blue light hanged a few seconds before it started to take form. The thing that appeared within that blue light was none other than…. “WonderMeow!?” Sora’s Dream Eater pal started to grrr and yap at DiZ’s data copy. DiZ’s copy held up one arm letting the red robe cover his face shielding his only eye-sight from looking further at the Dream Eater. “Tch. This impermanent creature is very protective of you, Sora. I had some difficulties trying to evade his defensive maneuvers. Be grateful that you have him as a trust-worthy partner within your sub-consciousness. For that matter, I will leave you for now as I have more to say to you.” The data man turned abruptly and held out his left arm in order to form another dark portal. “Eh? Wait!” Sora yelled as he quickly side-stepped around his Dream Eater in order to stand shoulder to shoulder with the data copy. “I just wanted to say ‘thank you’ and ‘it was a pleasure to meet you……, DiZ?’” Sora lifted his right arm and hand towards the red robed man. For a minute, Sora didn’t think he would respond. This data copy definitely feels like just a fragment of the real Ansem, however……? “Young man, you’re going to have a lot of future problems if you keep treating all of us unnaturally born creations as if we’re living beings,” DiZ spoke, but didn’t turn his body to look at Sora. “I will give you some credit, though, that due to your constant curiosity, my existence will not fade so soon.” Sora double-blinked thinking he was imagining things. Did this man just flash a quick smile? He still had his right arm hanging in the air, half-hoping DiZ would take it. Of course, he was wrong. Once the data man was done speaking, he vanished through his conjured up warp hole in just four seconds. Sora let his right arm down from its hanging position and gave a huge sigh in defeat. “WonderMeow, I wish my dreams were less complicated than this. They all seem to be very cryptic these days.” The Dream Eater wagged its tail playfully as it trotted around Sora’s legs. Its giant tongue wiggled lightly for every bounce it made in the air. “Well, then…. Time to wake up now?” Sora felt a sudden longing for the world of the waking. He couldn’t stand these dreams any more. These mysterious stain-glass platforms…. Sora looked down at the platform he’s standing on. It’s still a blank white, clearly, waiting for someone to fill in something of importance. “………………….” [ Don’t be afraid. ] Sora’s head snapped. A silent voice? Was it the King’s? [ You are the answer to their prayers. ] “Who are you?” [ I am always with you. Have always been, since….., the War. ] “…….Wha!?” Sora didn’t have time to think about whatever that voice just said. He felt the platform heave a giant shake causing his entire body to tumble onto the glassy surface. The darkness, that was around the platform, started to cover everything like a solid black ocean wave. WonderMeow yelped a little as it leaned its small body against Sora’s. Sora wrapped his arm around WonderMeow’s stomach and hugged it closely to him. As he felt the murky darkness crawl closer, Sora simply closed his eyes and started to imagine himself being home on Destiny Islands. The blue sky dotted with soft billowing clouds. The swaying palm trees bow gently with the wind’s ever-changing direction. His friends calling out to him, telling him that they were going to hang out on their island hideaway. Riku. Kairi. …Goofy. Donald. ….Lea. Mickey. With a small sense of caution, Sora slowly opened his eyes only to see a dark ceiling. He turned slowly to his right to see his messy familiar room. In his left arm was nothing but empty air. WonderMeow was nowhere to be seen. The boy heaved another sigh, but this one of relief. His dream friend was safe and probably back in its own world. Sora shifted his body again in order to face the window-side of his room and closed his eyes allowing sleep to once more take him. Unbeknownst to him, this was the final night he’ll spend in that bedroom……..once more. END. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit edit: It's done!!! I didn't want to rush it. I might as well finish it. *thows down a towel* Definitely not on time. *cheers anyways* Good luck to all participants! I see some potential writers out there, although yes, some of you definitely need to edit your stories. ^__^ PostScript ~ I don't badly need the manga. I just wanted to have some fun with the challenge. Thank you, KH13 staff, for hosting it.
