#962392 more and more persona 4 questions. Spoilers

Posted by Spectrum of Life on 18 January 2013 - 08:17 PM

After. Arena takes place in May 2012, P4G's epilogue takes place in 2013.

Yes and no. The plot for most of the Investigation Team is basically rescuing another person (Labrys, though they were initially just investigating why the Midnight Channel turns back on and learn about her later) from the TV world and discovering whoever is behind it. The portions of the game surrounding Naoto, Labrys and the P3 cast are significantly different. Naoto's and the Ex-S.E.E.S. members revolve around finding what was stolen during a plane hijacking as well as who was behind it), and Elizabeth's is about understanding what it'll take to save the protagonist of Persona 3, culminating in receiving her own Fool Arcana card.

The antagonists (There's two) of Arena are a hacker that wants to use Labrys as the ultimate weapon and an unidentified supernatural entity using him a puppet.. Theories are floating around that it's Nyarlathotep (The Villain of Persona 2)

Arena is mostly linear. You can choose to an extent what characters you play as first, but the storylines themselves have only one path, save for a few dialogue options that determine whether or not you complete the route or get a joke ending.

And in all likelihood there's going to be at least 1 more sequel, as Arena ends with the Investigation Team planning to go to Tatsumi Port Island.

#962286 more and more persona 4 questions. Spoilers

1. He thought that because Yukiko (who was the first person he actually kidnapped) came from the TV world alive. Kanji, Rise, and Naoto coming out alive just put fuel to the fire.

2. The game never really directly addresses that . He knows Narukami did something right in order to save Nanako when Dojima couldn't do jack, so by the end of the game Dojima just trusts that he knows what he's doing.

3. Yes, he goes back at the start of Persona 4:Arena and in the special Epilogue of Golden sometime later.

4. Namatame's Messiah Complex was more attractive to the shadows than her. Areas of the TV world are shaped by the feelings of those who wander into it. Shadows are created from the desires and denial of the people who enter the areas (I.E., Saki Konishi creating the shopping district but Yosuke creating the shadow). Namatame had a several powerful internal neuroses to fuel their appearance. Nanako had grief, which was strong enough to drown out Namatame in making the world, but Nanako didn't have outstanding internalized beliefs stemming from it. The level of consciousness may also be a factor (Nanako was half-dead by the time they found her.)

5. In both cases, no. The shadows attached (or possessed, depending on how you look at it) themselves to them once they completely lost their marbles.

#950294 Do you like reading paperback novels more than hardcover

You can't whack people with a paperback, that's just embarrassing.

#941626 New clothes for Sora in KH 3?

Posted by Spectrum of Life on 01 January 2013 - 08:37 PM

I'm thinking they'll probably give him another redesign, as it's a major title. I don't really have any investment in the whole deal as long as I never have to see that hideous red jumpsuit from the first game ever again.

#936825 What's the point of Region Locking?

Posted by Spectrum of Life on 28 December 2012 - 07:20 PM

I hate it too, but to actually answer the question, It's mostly to discourage people from importing games from countries where they're cheaper.

In Japan at least (which is the most relevant example), consumer goods cost a good amount more than they do in North America.(From my experience, it can be up to twice as much.) The region locking forces the importer to buy a console/device along with it, which is likely to override any savings that the consumer would have gotten from importing the software/media by itself.

#920635 Why do you think Versus is taking so long?

Posted by Spectrum of Life on 08 December 2012 - 11:39 AM

Knowing them they're probably doing work for FFXIII-5.

#893367 Why do all these games have to come out?

They have to get that monaaaaaaaaaay from Christmas sales.

#884468 Which type of video game enemy do you find to be the most frightening?

Posted by Spectrum of Life on 04 November 2012 - 09:20 PM

Humans. It's a fair bit easier to kill something when it doesn't seem to be one of your own.

#882336 Kingdom Hearts II and KHII Final Mix

Posted by Spectrum of Life on 02 November 2012 - 09:19 PM

Yeah, we didn't. We had slide whatever, that it's really not the same thing. Dodge roll really makes some battles easier, since you can dodge escape some of your enemies attacks, what we couldn't do with those extras abilities back in KH2..

To add onto this, the air slide move was arguably worse than useless, as the move gave you no invincibility frames, forced you into a straight line, the ending lag for the move made a massive opening for enemies to attack, and Glide lvl 5 was faster as jumps can be canceled into Glide almost immediately, and glide has fewer ending frames. Roll outclasses it in every way. Coming from my experience playing the Final Mix (with both Swap magic and through an emulator.) As soon as you get your first DR skill there's absolutely no reason to use slide.

As for the actual game itself, it adds 8 very well made Boss Battles 9and 13 Rematches, close to 20 scenes and generally adds enough stuff to justify the price tag. The PS2 version goes for 40$ Online, though you're going to have to find a way to get it to work on your PS2 (The console is region locked.) Worst case scenario is that it'd cost about 80$/ £50 to get everything together You could also wait for the inevitable 2.5 ReMIX, if you happen to have a PS3.

#862829 What Happened to Dark Mode?

Posted by Spectrum of Life on 18 October 2012 - 03:18 PM

In-story, It would be redundant as Riku can harness darkness in tandem with light with no adverse effects after he was purged of Notsem.

In terms of game design, the developers probably didn't know what to do with it after CoM. I imagine that's also the reason why Drives haven't been used since 2. Notice how every game seems to replace or modify a lot of mechanics as opposed to adding new ones on top of the old.
(Drive forms->Command Styles-> Riku's Dream eater combos),
(Static abilities->Panels-> ability crystals -> Dream Eater skill trees)
(Combo Finishers->Limit Breaks->Command Style Finishers-> Sora's Dream Eater Combos)

#856223 A random Pokemon question

Posted by Spectrum of Life on 12 October 2012 - 04:52 PM

Wait, so how is leaving at least 632 (The Eevee line,Wurmple Lines and any 4-Pokemon family makes 17)  innocent animals to be slaughtered by accepting this offer not make me a horrible, horrible person?

Provided I was actually stupid enough to take the offer, Cyndaquil, Ralts and Giratina.

#853166 Are you born gay or you become gay?

Posted by Spectrum of Life on 10 October 2012 - 09:37 AM

There are many, many factors that go into it. It has been observed naturally in the wild though, including among birds, elephants (Bruce Bagemihl, Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity, St. Martin's Press, 1999; ISBN 0-312-19239-8),)
and Dragonflies

#841022 Did I do anything firetrucking wrong?

Posted by Spectrum of Life on 01 October 2012 - 11:59 PM

I'd say ask about going to family counseling. This sounds serious.

It's about time someone acknowledged the actual protagonist of Skyward Sword.

#836016 Overly Attached Girlfriend's Impression Of Kristen Stewart

There's a trope for that.

It may just be my imagination, but it seems to be getting more common in movies.
Or maybe I'm just becoming cynical.
