Yeah, no. The staff is badass, and each and every one of them is needed on this ship in their own way. Without them, we'd sink in minutes rather than hours.

Nope, we all are.  The website ship can be rebuilt and get new members.  You can't replace the awesomeness that is the staff.  It helps for people to know their place, and ours is at the bottom of the sea having saved our lord and masters from watery oblivion.

My bullshit detectors are going crazy. I guess several hundred people could be possible hell even a thousand or two, but 300,000? That's more people than showing up all at once THAN THE NETHERLANDS ENTIRE MILITARY.

The staff.  They keep the place running.  Everyone else is totally expendable.

I don't think the character herself is the problem. It's not like she does anything detestable. I have a lot more issue with her implementation into the story. As the essay that some people linked pointed out, Xion was made as a character to motivate Roxas to leave the organization.
   That is the thing I take the most issue with. It's consistent with the themes of the series, but (to me at least) it wasn't consistent with Roxas's character. Roxas came across as a very introspective and withdrawn person who had no one to really trust and didn't take things at face value. It seemed to me that Roxas would have left primarily because he had an independent epiphany and decided to give Xemnas the proverbial finger, not because he was grief stricken from Saix and Xemnas playing puppy football. I dislike her, but it's because I feel she damaged the appeal of another character I used to like. The other nobodies ( as in the ones that were offed or simply not featured much) getting shafted character development wise was salt in the wound.
If she were introduced more organically into the story and wasn't Roxas's primary reason for leaving, I think she would be fine.
