He wears the blindfold because of his dark training. He has to wear it so that he doesn't turn into the image of ansem. As well as i believe that he underwent major training to utilize all of his senses much like daredevil.
Its more of a handy cap: as i'm sure he is a-lot more powerful with the blind-fold off. However he can't control his image with his blind-fold off.
