#1087853 The Unpopular Opinions Thread

Posted by Noel Vermilion on 02 May 2013 - 10:22 PM

Please don't get mad and Please don't tell me off but honestly for some reason im starting to not like it here now.
I dunno this place is alot different from when I first joined and honestly Im afraid of posting here now because I'm afraid of causing misunderstanding and being ridiculed by other members.   Basically im trying to avoid not doing the same mistakes that I did when I first joined.
Im sorry I felt that I need to say it and I apologize if I offend anyone by this.

Hmm, considering you didn't want to start a "shit storm," it is still a bit implied that you are making people feel left out or "indifferent" which would also make people feel shitty. Also isn't it against the rules to make threads about particular members and lists? If I remember correctly, this did not execute well in the past. But power to you. You're not really someone I'd like to know if you are making lists to ran your friends. Have a nice one.

It's hard to know where the line should or shouldn't be drawn in the Random forum. On one hand, it's true that you shouldn't post something deliberately offensive then be like "oh stop being butthurt it's the random forum". On the other hand, I feel like people are legitimately getting offended too easily. Yeah, people post things there that are likely gonna get into some uncomfortable territory, but are not offensive, per se. But then people still get offended because they jump to the conclusion that OP was trying to be offensive, without actually considering that there really isn't anything offensive about the actual post. So where do we draw the line? I dunno.

Oh wait, I need to have an unpopular opinion, so uh.... GTA seems stupid IMO. There.

Since talking about the site is trending on the site, might as well give my 2 cents.

There is a god damn reason why making threads about another members is a rule. If you make a thread saying a member is a 'jerk, ass, whore, etc' it might/will hurt their feels, and making a list of people you don't find annoying, is just stupid and rude.

People need to stop their shit on radnom. "LOL IT'S RANDOM CALM DOWN!" No if it's something that isn't funny but hurtful, people have the right to get pissed off.

And the people who keep making threads in it is . GAH . Now I see why everybody disliked me when I did it.

And finally, (if you get upset with me here, just tell me and I'll edit it out.) I find it sexist how there can only be female mods.

I mean no disrespect to anybody, just wanted to give my 2 cents. If anybody is upset over this feel free to del it.

I got to stop posting here, sorry.

I agree with everything else you said but just a note on the last point:

It's not done that way on purpose at all. (I'm assuming you mean the global mods because the sec mods are coed) Mods are chosen because they're active, well behaved members who appear competent. I have a math class of 18 people and 15 of them are boys. There's nothing sexist going on, that's just the way the chips fall. The mods we have are all good at their job and were chosen specifically because they are good at it--not because they're female. There aren't actually that many mods anyway in consideration to the number of members on the site, plus I've noticed and huge majority of the site is female, so the fact that they all are isn't really surprising.

On to my opinion~

I don't really like cupcakes xD They fall apart and you have to try to catch all of the crumbs, plus I don't like icing.

#1087711 Kingdom Hearts is for adults.

Posted by RoxSoxKH on 02 May 2013 - 09:17 PM

The content of these games is competely inappropiate for children, and it offends me that people think that they're fine.

The entire driving force behind the story is clearly the main characters sexual indifference. Social pressure is pushing him into thinking he has feelings for Kairi, when clearly the subtext is his desire to have anal sex with his friend, Riku.

I have proof of this as well.

The key, by its nature, is phallic. It is a long hard object, that when inserted in a hole, yields a result. The Keyblade, in turn, is representative of Sora's penis, and the story of the game: To insert the key in the keyhole of all the worlds, is representative of his sexual deviancy.

This is irrefutable.

But the symbolism behind Sora's story is only small potatoes to what the character of kairi suggests.

The characters of the series are all in their teens. A confusing time. And the red hair of Kairi is clearly symbolic for a period. The red representing blood, of course. It is also symbolic for the loss of virginity. This dual symbolism is evidence that the makers of the game clearly know how to subliminally influence young minds. And also that anybody who enjoys these games needs Jesus.

#1084726 Kairi is a much more important character than you think

Posted by Weiss on 30 April 2013 - 06:26 PM

She's not useless as some think. Even before kh3 she's an important character. I'm just going to start by listing accomplishments

BBS: gave Aqua the Destiny's embrace keychain by giving her the flowers

KH1: Without Kairi the Kingdom Hearts series would most likely not even exist. Kairi is how Sora and Riku found out about other worlds and why they wanted to travel to them. Had she not been there all kh events would'nt happen. She also serves as the main drive for Sora to continue his journey in KH1 and she is the reason Sora was able to recover his somebody form after becoming a heartless.

Com: She once again serves as a drive for Sora to continue through Castle Oblivion until his memories of her become replaced. And Namine ends up using Kairi's form to help Riku control his light and darkness. While this isn't directly Kairi doing anything this shows an impact she has on Riku.

KH Days: Xion greatly resembles Kairi to Roxas because of the fact that sora's memories with Kairi are the strongest.

KH2:

tumblr_m6pnkeNzLh1ryrnheo1_250.giftumblr_m6pnkeNzLh1ryrnheo2_r1_250.giftumblr_m6pnkeNzLh1ryrnheo3_250.giftumblr_m6pnkeNzLh1ryrnheo6_250.gif

Starting off with this we see yet again that Kairi is important to Sora. And she gets her keyblade in KH2.

Coded: Admittedly she doesn't really do anything in Coded besides giving Sora the letter from Mickey.

KH3D: Besides appearing in The World That Never Was as a figment Kairi also is eluded to being a light in the secret ending.

Keeping all of this in mind she'll most likely also be doing a lot of fighting and usefulness in KH3 as well.

#1078911 The answer to Kairi being a useless character

Posted by Ruran on 26 April 2013 - 01:57 AM

I'd sooner relate Kairi's treatment in the series due to Disney rather than Nomura being Japanese. When you look at Kairi's character, especially in the first game, she's very much a "classic Disney princess", even down to the fight with Maleficent in Dragon form right before you find her and wake her up as a nice call back to Sleeping Beauty. Ultimately it was still Nomura's call but I always got the impression with Kairi's character that since she was a PoH Nomura wanted to make her like the other princesses on some level so the ickey result was making her a DiD/designated "love interest"/McGuffin girl and even the Smurfette. Combine what we got in the game with the concept art of Kairi doing all the domestic things like reading, gardening, cooking, balancing the large portions of food she cooked, and feeding Sora and Riku the large portions of food she cooked while she stands by them waiting with a platter aaaaaaaand...the only thing missing is to have her sing while cute island animals help her in her womanly tasks.

Regardless, is it still sexiest? I'd say so. Is there an excuse for it? Or at least a good enough reason? Eeeeehhhhhh.........If you wanna look on the brighter side of things and give Nomura the benefit of the doubt we can say he was just following classic story and Disney conventions because of KH having a certain "fairy tale" like quality to it. Although looking at the other female characters and how KH is a sausage fest there's not a lot of leeway there even if you can find some (some) excuse for Kairi.

Japanese customs. Right.  Now explain Lightning.  And Fang.  And Aqua.

Don't get me started on the "Kairi's useless" topic, I'll go on a rant.  Actually I would if it wasn't nearly midnight and I have to get up in about 5 hours.  Just because she's caught in certain positions doesn't make her useless.  She isn't useless.  She'll be kicking butt in KH3.

I hope you realized you're calling Nomura sexist regardless of your wording.

Didn't anyone get my answer? Kairi's limited actions might have something to do with Japanese tradition. (In case you have not forgotten, Kingdom Hearts is a J-A-P-A-N-E-S-E game.)

that doesnt make it any less ~sexist~
most societies are patriarchal, including japan so kh being a japanese game isnt any excuse
firetruck the patriarchy

So according to you, Nomura isn't sexist, he's just following sexist customs.  'Kay.  And if he designed Kairi in such a way that she follows these customs, then yes, by definition she's getting the short end of the stick.

cultural customs does not excuse sexism. as well, i love kairi. she has so much potential, but nomura handles her character (and the rest lf the female characters, with the exception of aqua) very poorly.
although i really love dave's interpretation of her character

#1084035 Red isn't your awesome 'Strongest Trainer'

Posted by Shera Wizard on 30 April 2013 - 01:09 AM

Time to break the shitstorm threads

Anywhos,

A little part of the Pokemon fandom has been insinuating that Red, is the strongest trainer over all regions and yadayada.

Fact is, no. It's more surprising when you learn the truth.

On Mt. Silver 'you', as in Ethan/Kris, defeat him. Unless you lost, but basically, you get the point. That is the first.

Second in the PWT, 'you' in Pokemon B/W2, defeat him. Majorly because of the 3-Pokemon and Level 50 format. [In normal battles]

So that hightens the ranking to:

1.EthanBattleSprite.PNGSpr_HGSS_Lyra.png [Because defeated him first, with all six Pokemon]

2.

Spoiler

[Because you defeated Red in the PWT only with 3 Pokemon and at level 50-only]

3. Spr_GS_Red.png Your God trainer. I also consider him that, but just wanted to clear stuff up because wynaut.

Also i tried to make it as Geronimo-ish as posible so please show me some luv ;-;

#1081836 Are lesbians more accepted than gay men?

Posted by Koko on 28 April 2013 - 03:01 PM

Gay men are able to contract aids. That's why they are not easily accepted.

wtf r u okay there

ANYONE can contract AIDS

straight men, straight women, gay women, gay men, trans*men, trans*women, nonbinaries, intersex people, asexuals, white people, black people, latin@ people, asian people, old people, young people
