How Star Wars could work in the Kingdom Hearts series

Recommended Posts

Honestly I'm indifferent. I don't mind if Star Wars does or doesn't get in Kingdom Hearts, it's something that's not needed but wouldn't hurt to have in my opinion. It would be interesting to see but not something I'd be upset about if it didn't get in. Here I'll be giving my reasons on how and why it could work and even giving my constructive criticisms and counter arguments to what many other people have said. Note, I am not trying to cause hate in the community so if I sound a bit rude I apologize in advance.

First lets start with why it should at least be considered for the Kingdom Hearts Universe. It would be a great opportunity to expand on the universe of Kingdom Hearts like Marvel and Pixar could. I actually made a list on the forum once before of movies that have never appeared in Kingdom Hearts including Pixar and Disney's translations of Studio Ghibli films. There was about 60, but not all of them could be in like Aristocats & The Lady & The Tramp due to their nature and most likely we would only have 1 Pixar movie per game. So that lowers our options to around 30-40. We also have to take into consideration how often Kingdom Hearts games are made and how often we get new Disney films. So eventually we may have to expand the universe of Kingdom Hearts and it's better to do that sooner than later.

Also most of use remember the original characters and areas in Star Wars like Luke, R2D2, Chewbaca & Darth Vader. And a lot other people do especially the Star Wars fan base. It would also be a great opportunity to introduce the series to a newer and bigger fanbase than ever before. Do we want the games to sell well or be able to compete with some of the best selling games out there like Tetris, GTAV, & the original Super Mario Bros.

Lastly there are a lot of options you have to the series.like a Lightsaber Keyblade, Millennium Falcon Gummi Ship parts, Darth Vader boss fight, R2D2 Summon, Luke Party member & maybe even a secret boss fight with General Grievous. There are a lot of other possibilities when it comes to Star Wars.

Now let's get into how it could be put into Kingdom Hearts.

First it would be better not to have Star Wars in Kingdom Hearts 3 sense this is the end of the Xehanort Saga and it would be too late in the story to add something like Star Wars into the series. We should wait until the next Saga begins.

But how would it be a world? It's an entire galaxy, not a world. And sense these characters have traveled to many other planets before how would they have not ever found something like Agrabah or Beast's Castle before. You could argue something like Deep Space in Birth by Sleep but we have enough plot holes in the story to do that again. So when accessing "A Galaxy Far Far Away" (the name of the Star Wars world) you should go through a warp hole that sends you to a different region of the universe. This way, it would make sense for both travel and story.

But which film? Many people say Star Wars: The Clone Wars simply because it's animated (and I'll get back to that shortly) but it would be better if we added either the first film or Episode VII: The Force Awakens (depending on it's performance) It makes much more sense and the original film is so much more iconic than the Clone Wars is (not to say it's a bad series)

Now, many people have their arguments as to why Star Wars shouldn't be in Kingdom Hearts, which is fine because everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I feel like I have some counter arguments for them and feel free to leave your own down below.

"It doesn't fit" This has to be the most popular of the arguments and sometimes it'll go along with the others I'll talk about but sometimes it feels like when people use this argument, they rarely go into detail as to why it doesn't fit. No matter how long you've been a fan of the series or how many games you've played. We can't predict how Tetsuya Nomura or anyone would add Star Wars or just about any film into Kingdom Hearts. Like with Big Hero 6, they said it would take place after the story of the original film and Rapunzel is most likely going to be a recreation of the original story. Plus this isn't a Disney made franchise, so who knows if Tetsuya wouldn't try something different for Star Wars or even something like the Avengers.

"No live action characters please!" This is why some would want Clone War over the original films. Because their animated. Which I have to say is a silly argument. Live action does not equal bad. Yes Port Royal from the Pirates of the Carribean wasn't too great of a world but never was the KH2 version of Atlantis. Plus we're not in the 6th generation of gaming or the PS2 era any more. We're in the 8th generation with the PS4 era, Live action characters would look a lot better then before and fit even more. Plus looking at Sora in the trailers so far it seems that he himself could work with live action content better than in the other games. His eyes aren't as big and he has a lot more detail than before. Not to say he looks as real as Robert Dwny Jr as Tony Stark but he definitely fits a lot more than in live action content than before.

"Disney would never allow it!"/"It may be owned by Disney but it wasn't made by them" Disney once tried to make their own Kingdom Hearts game called Fragmented Keys. Inside the concept phases was indeed both a Star Wars world called "A Galaxy Far Far Away" & even a Marvel world called "The Marvel Cinematic Universe" Plus with the inclusion of both in Disney Infinity, I'm pretty sure that's not the case. Yes, it might be a little more difficult to put them in because they have to go to not just Disney but also Lucas Films. But Nintendo was able to get their 2nd party companies like Intelligent Studios for Fire Emblem and Monolith Studios for Xenoblade in Super Smash Bros. And of course let's not forget the 3rd party characters like Megaman, Pacman & Sonic the Hedgehog.

Also are we forgetting Halloweentown? Nightmare Before Christmas wasn't made by Disney but is owned by them. And what about the Pixar films. Pixar was in the same case as Marvel & Star Wars at one point, originally owned by Lucas Films from 1979-1986, to being an independent company from 1986-2006 when it was finally bought by Disney that same year (they worked with Disney from Toy Story till 2006 but they were mainly independent, The 2 even went on an ownership dispute from 2002-2006)

"It doesn't have any of the themes of Kingdom Hearts!" Light vs. Darkness, Darkness being the Darkside. Friendship between characters like C-3PO & R2D2. The Power you must control, Chosen ones,'Ect.

"It would ruin the Magic of the series!"/"There is no Magic in Star Wars" *cough*Tron*cough* But I digress this was never an actually reason why it can't be in. Tetsuya Nomura has never has the presence of Magic was a requirement.

"It would ruin the series!" ...really? One world? One measly world in which all we have to do is at least try the idea and if it doesn't work than we can at least say we tried would end the series or at least ruin every other game than comes afterwards? Really?

"It would slow the production of the game" How in what way exactly? Plus we've been waiting for almost 10 years and it all of the sudden becomes an issue it the reason was for another year was Star Wars? Plus, I've said to not put it in KH3 but instead the next Saga.

And those are my reasons as to why Star Wars should be in Kingdom Hearts, how it could work and my counter arguments. If you guys have your own arguments wether that be a reason why it should or shouldn't be in please comment. I love a good debate :3

Those are some interesting points. However, I don't think it really matters one way or the other whether it is in KH3 or some other future game. Honestly, I think it could work just as well in KH3. I mean, what reason is there that it wouldn't work? It would be joined by other new worlds that will likely be re-explored again after the Xehanort Saga, so it doesn't really ruin the pace to put it in KH3. Plus, if it is based on The Force Awakens, then the after-hype would still be about a year fresh. But as for an argument as to why it should be in any KH game, I feel the series needs more sci fi elements thrown in. Fantasy is great, but considering it's Disney and Sqaure Enix's bread and butter you see it practically everywhere in KH. With that said, it would be nice to have a bit more than just the occasional Tron or Big Hero 6 world, it would feel great to have at least 2 or 3 largely sci-fi worlds. I suppose Atlantis could count as one, considering how about half of it takes place in that huge submarine and with those other vehicles...not to mention the crystal vehicles too.

My only problem with it is how they would fit it all in a single world, The Star wars universe just seems to big to have a single side story in KH, Same with Marvel

If they can pull it off, awesome but i'm not seeing how they can

This is literally the only real issue I see. I could see them doing the original if they keep it on the death star. Either way, it's pretty unlikely it'll be in KH3 from what Nomura has said.

at this point i don't care if they put a Star Wars/Marvel world in the series as long as it's after KH3. that way if it feels too much like a bad fan-fiction level it'll be easier to disregard. also a couple things:

1. the reasoning of "they share similar themes" is a weak argument. lots of stories have the theme of dark vs light so when people bring it up as a valid point it adds nothing to the argument. just saying.

2. putting Star Wars in KH doesn't automatically ensure it'll reach the popularity of the GTA series. if that were true Diseny Infinity should be in that same situation, and they've got Star Wars AND Marvel.

That Star Wars is unlikely to happen due to licensing issues. It isn't as easy to get a hold of the rights and such because those are held in another section of disney or something like that.

Not Disney Xemnas . After Xehanort will be destroyed it will be fine to put it in KH4.

Im pretty meh about having Star Wars in KH. Don't get me wrong, I love Star Wars and all but I'm kinda leaning more towards no. If they do our Star Wars in I won't mind. I guess I'd just prefer if they didn't. It also depends on what series too. Out of all of them I'd like to see Star Wars Rebels incorporated in KH, especially since it'll be interesting to see Sora and Ezra Bridger (the main protagonist in the show) interact. They have sorta opposing personalities that'll probably create a sort of love/hate relationship between the two. (I find Ezra very rude and challenging at times, which will be very interesting to see Sora interact with such a character)

Not going to lie however, after you said secret boss fight with General Grievous, I actually want to see that now. With his 1000000 Lightsabers he'll definitely be a hard and fun challenge.

Yeah I think I'd prefer if just one character made a cameo as a secret boss rather than having a whole portion of the game in the SW universe. Maybe Darth Maul or The Inquisitor. Though if I were actually in charge I would go with the new films hype and just have it be Kylo Ren. Well you never know, Kingdom Hearts is in Disney Infinity 3 so the two have kind of crossed over already. I don't really mind either way, if it is then I can't imagine it somehow making KH3 a bad game and if it's not then the game will still be great anyway. It's really just a case of I'm not expecting them to do it but it'd be nice if they do.

I'm all up for Star Wars- way I kind of imagine it is similar to Monstro in KH. ( You can either have the Millenuium Falcon being chased by Heartless ships and have Sora and the gang help outand reach the Death Star or simply on route to a world be interrupted by the death star.)Once landed Sora would be surrounded by Stormtroopers and taken to Vader where he would be accused of being a rebel either trying to free Leia or return the plans to her. During their Imprisonment Luke and Han arrive to save Leia and Luke being the good natured Farmboy frees Sora despite Han saying we need to escape. Rest of the level could be trying to get back to Falcon with Luke being the party member. We could then see the duel between Obi wan and Vader with Obi Wan sacrificing himself and both the Falcon and the Gummi Ship escaping. Then after a cutscene, Luke prepares to leave with Red Squadron and Sora being Sora can't allow a friend to go off to their death. Cue the battle of Yavin with Sora aiding out similar to how Biggs and Wedge did in the original film. The Death Star is destroyed and we have the medal ceromony. The world ends with Luke asking Sora to join the Rebellion to which Sora replies their are more threats than the empire out their and departs as a friend making a classic Sora promise.

I'm going to say this that offend some, but Lucasfilm has some strict guidelines when making stories taking place in the OT (canon or not). You can only do so much with that world without "ruining it" (especially by fan standards). The only characters that have been really allowed to expand on the stories in the OT are the Bounty Hunters and Lando and even then its still very limited.

As I said before Rebels does a phenomenal job when keeping it on one location, Lothal. If you don't mind here is how i would see it.

Sora and Co. land on the planet Lothal and start roaming around wondering why everything looks drastically different then the worlds they are use to visiting. While roaming through a town segment he sees the rebels are escaping with crucial data to fighting the empire. He eventually meets up with them Kanan/Ezra join your team. While looking through the planet they can encounter the stormtroopers, probe droids and of course heartless, which also can have some themed to the worlds wildlife the lothcats (which in the Death Star there aren't actual wildlife to base the heartless off of). When in the final mission of the first world, thats when Sora finally meets the Inquisitor, however much like The Pride Lands handled Simba and Scar, Kanan defeats him while you and Ezra were fighting Agent Callus and Stormtroopers. While the Rebels are escaping the "Ghost" of the Inquisitor appears for one last fight, but its up to Sora, Donald and Goofy to defeat him. Escape the planet and the end of the 1st visit.

The 2nd visit should follow the Siege of Lothal story, in which a certain baddie is hunting the rebels and everything is going to plan for the Empire. When the rebels find the loading bay to escape, that's where they find the military grade fuel canisters to take and load onto the Ghost. So the rebels escape but Vader shows up and ask Sora who he is and the weapon that he carries, And BAM! Secret Boss Fight. (Though this 2nd visit would have to take place after the main story of KH3 is done) adds some replay value.
