Why I'm not aching for a Final Fantasy-based world

Recommended Posts

I mentioned somewhere in another post that the Final Fantasy side of KH is more prominent than many people give credit for. Sure, we're running around Disney worlds and meeting Disney characters and having Disney fun, but I don't need a Final Fantasy world in KH because the Final Fantasy part is already there; it's just not as visible as the Disney side.

The scope of KH's overall plot is something more suited for Final Fantasy. FF plots are grander, and involve heroics regarding the fate of the entire worlds. Disney plots tend to be (relatively) more mundane in comparison. Nothing massive is at stake if they fail -- Aladdin remains a street rat, Peter Pan gets stabbed by a pirate, the Pride Lands go to hell, Ariel never becomes part of our world, Cinderella never gets her prince, Elsa never lets it go, etc. If the FF characters fail? The entire world gets firetrucked. Big difference there. And if Sora fails, the worlds, plural, get firetrucked. The scope of the threat -- and the measures taken to combat it, what with all the fighting and the magic and the keys and the spiky hairs -- is where the Final Fantasy part really comes into play.

An FF world would be severely watered down. One can argue it's similar for the Disney worlds, but the Disney worlds are based on self-contained hour and a half movies -- Final Fantasy games can clock up to 40 hours and span multiple characters and settings. An FF world would either have to focus on one specific part of the game at the exclusion of everything else, or be so broad that it barely scratches the surface of what made the game memorable.  In other words, you lose a lot more watering down Final Fantasy than you do Disney.

That's why the KH formula of visiting all these different Disney worlds works so well. Disney comes in simpler, bite-sized pieces, meaning there can be a lot of them at once. Even during the times when I did legitimately want a Final Fantasy world, I couldn't figure out how it'd work.

Don't get me wrong, visiting Midgar or Alexandria or wherever would be awesome, but it just feels like we'd lose too much for it to be worth it. I'll be content with the "Saving the world(s)" plot, thanks.

They can shorten the length of the FF world. I can't see any problem with that. With Disney, it's not like we go to all the places in the movies either, ya know? They can definitely put the more memorable sections of FF into KH3 somehow.

Though they already established Leon and Cloud and friends came from Radiant Garden so any hope for a FF world is already debunked.

Plus, it's never been established that FF worlds exist. All of the FF characters live in KH worlds like Destiny Islands, Traverse Town, Twilight Town or Radiant Garden and I'm fine with that, tbh. The point of FF characters in KH is as glorified cameos, really, and seeing them link with the Disney characters to get your crossover kick. Even TWEY characters find themselves entirely on Dream Traverse Town.

Like you said, when you visit Disney world you're not watching the entire movie its based on,so the same could apply to a Final Fantasy world. If Midgar was a world,Sora and co. could help Avalanche during the opening sequence of FFVII,then during the revisit they'd help for the attack at the Shinra building and that's it.I'd be fine with just that,Sephiroth wouldn't need to be involved even if he's the main villain of FFVII.The world would be a little nice throwback with nice remixes of some of the tracks. That's actually something KH is missing in general,as far as I remember One-Winged Angel and Zack's theme in BBS are the only Final Fantasy music in the entire serie.

I don't mind not seeing any FF worlds in KH,I'm fine with FF characters being parts of the KH and Disney worlds and like you said, the Final Fantasy part of Kingdom Hearts is not limited to the characters, there's a lot more then that.

yeah but kingdom hearts takes place in an alternative reality so maybe the time travel aspect could kick in?

kingdom hearts 3 will use the unreal engine 4 so the worlds will no doubt be expansive i don't see a problem with having a ff based world besides sora never stayes in a world for too long he stayes too help the characters solve a problem leaves and comes back to defeat the main antagonist it's not like we need every location in every game they just need to add the memorable one and do them justice with lots of detail and since sora will leave and visit later i don't see how a ff world wouldn't work the same as the disney worlds and again kh3 is being made on "unreal engine 4 " the 3rd engine could already create large expasive world and amazingly detailed character and environments imagine what the 4th engine can do?

Maybe with the help of xehanort, but I don't know if Sora has the ability to time travel.

not yet at least but mayby kh3 will end with sora and riku ending xehanort who when defeated shatteres reality then sora and riku are sent to different ff realms searching for each other collecting shards of reality or reality crystals while meeting the real cast of ff who then accompany you note: a preview of my fan fic :) Edited by liamaru

Interesting fan fic. Can't see it in KH3 though. Even if I'd like to.
