I've just finished Final Fantasy VII few minutes ago

And let me tell ya,this is ONE OF THE BEST GAMES I'VE EVER PLAYED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!

This game is a masterpiece,it's as great as Zelda Ocarina of Time as both had a huge influence on their genre

I've enjoyed every single hour of the 40 hours I've spent on this game

The story is fantastic,I love every single character on my party, heck even the materia stealing bitch Yuffie had her own unique charm and I liked her reaction to what's going on when she's in your party, the writing is great and the dialogue was well-written despite some grammatical errors here and there.

Cloud was legitimately a badass in this game,I really loved Cloud's character here, sure it's heavily influenced by Zack for many reasons but even after he recovered his memories he really kept his cocky and proud personality,he wasn't that emo that the Advent Children made him to be(I hate how The Advent Children movie changed him to a whiny emo....sure he whines a little bit in VII but not as much as he did in Advent Children....why does this movie exist again??)

And don't get me started on Cid Highwind......MANLIEST MAN AROUND!!! SMOKIN SIGS AND DRINKIN TEA.

I loved how big the world of Gaia is and the variety of things you can do in it,from playing various mini-games in the Gold Sauser, the military mini-game you play in fort corel, the snowboarding mini-game....things like this I really appreciate a lot because it keeps the game fresh and takes your mind a little bit off from fighting and makes you appreciate the game's world more and care about it unlike some games that forces you into narrow hallways with nothing to do or anybody to talk to(Looking at you Final Fantasy XIII),I liked the hidden places that you can visit in the game even before you tackle the post game like the different islands,Lucrecia's cave and other places

I really love the Materia system,it's so accessible and easy to use and the results you can get from linking materias together are many

The weapons and accessory you equip have a number of materia slots which makes you think before you get them, you can go with the more powerful weapon but it'll have less materia slots which means less magic and less summons,or you can equip a weaker weapon but it has more materia slots, same thing goes with accessories as some of them boost your stats but barely have any materia slots

I like this kind of system that encourages me to think before I can equip whatever accessory or weapon I get

And the Soundtrack....my GOD The soundtrack is freakin Fantastic, sure it sounds computerized which may annoys some people, but it fits perfectly with the game's world. There are so many memorable tones and the battle tracks are some of my favorites in any video game like the boss battle theme, the battle with Jenova SYNTHESIS(if I remember the name correctly)and the awesomeness of One-Winged Angel

This battle is one of the most epic battles I've had in a video game thanks to amazing composition of the legendary Nobou Uematsu....I LOVE YOU NOBOU ^_^

The only minor complains I can think of for the game is very little but I'll mention them

The graphics didn't age that well compared to later FF games on the Ps1 like FF9,while the models of towns and the background look fine and good, the sprite of characters outside of battles look like legos(Cloud's arms are like Popeye the Sailorman lol)

But it's really minor in my opinion because, you have to bear in mind that this game came relatively early in the Ps1's life cycle and this game was one of Square's first attempt of making a 3D game so it's excusable

the second is a plothole that didn't exist in the game until Dirge of Cerberus came out and made it,it's regarding the relationship between Vincent,Lucrecia,Hojo and Sephiroth

But regardless of those minor complains,This game is fantastic and it deserves all the praise it got, sure it may seems overrated and I personally prefer FF4 and FF9 over 7,but you cannot deny that this is a great game that revolutionized the RPG genre and it was one of the reasons that made JRPGs relevant for a very long time.

I recommend anyone who hasn't play this game to play it....even if he got the story spoiled for you,you should play it regardless

I can't forget the huge amount of fun I had with this game and it's one of my favorite Ps1 games of all time

My score for Final Fantasy VII is a solid:1010

This game deserves this score, you can think it's overrated but you can't deny it's greatness and how it launched the Final Fantasy series to the sky with it's immense popularity over gamers and it's sales of almost 10 million copies making it the best selling Final Fantasy game to date.Heck even people who never played a Final Fantasy know about Final Fantasy VII and the infamous Aerith's death scene, heck no matter how much you try to avoid spoilers, you'll know about this scene the moment you hear about Final Fantasy VII

It's sad how hard Square Enix fell from their thrones as the king of RPGs

I'm in huge disbelief of what happened to Square over the years, from the height of the perfect scores and endless rewards for games like Final Fantasy VII,down to the abyss with one piece of shit of a game called Final Fantasy XIII that made them a spot of laughter among their own fans and fans of JRPGs in general.

How did we fell down from the beautiful worlds with lively towns and activities to small narrow hallways coupled of endless amount of cutscenes showcasing an average story.Square claims that the world of FFXIII is so massive that it needed three games. But none of the games of the XIII trilogy even lives up to the quality of old games like FF4,6,7 and 9

How did they manage to make worse games despite the evolution of hardware??How is it that with a strong console like the Ps3 they didn't reach the quality of a Ps1 or an SNES game???

Final Fantasy isn't just about shiny graphics and over dramatic CG cutscenes,it's about the great story, the beautiful lively world, the memorable characters the epic quests and adventures to save those beautiful worlds.

I hope to God that Final Fantasy XV will manage to live up to it's hype because it's the last chance of survival for a series I hold close to my heart

You know FF XIII was pretty linear and not all that good, i admit that, but i think XIII-2 and LR come decently close to how good VII is honestly. It was more of a step in the right direction from installments like XII. -_-

Ill have to remember to look more into VII then, if you say its that good.

Sure XIII-2 is good and I like it but it's nowhere near the quality of Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy VII was a revolutionary game that  had a huge influence on it's genre just as much as Zelda Ocarina of Time

It's world is way bigger than the XIII trilogy and it has a much better story that influenced an entire generation of JRPG fans

You have a point there. There has to be a reason this game is so overrated and beloved by FF fans. Thanks for the review Metal, ill look into it. Im hoping they make a remake for it sooner or later, i loved Crisis core.

Dude you should totally play it ^_^

It's on PSN for 9$ bucks

After playing it,I knew why fans can't stop demanding a remake for it

Is the digital release on PSN laggy or anything? Does it have any problems i should know about first, since ive heard that FF VI's PSN release was super slow in loading times.

If you're playing FFVII on a PSP,only Disc 3 will start lagging

But if you're playing it on Ps3 it won't lag at all

Oh ok then, thanks for the heads up. I'll remember this. :D

Yeah, sorry man. I know how it feels when you make a thread and no one looks at it. :(

Yeah, this happened to me a couple of times not only here but in other forums and it can get frustrating especially when you think hard for what you're gonna write like writing a review or a retrospective only to have no one visiting it or replying to it

Oh come on guys,I don't wanna just talk to myself here

Well,I believe I talked about Final Fantasy VII and how its my favorite FF already, but yeah,I love this game to death,I like the characters a lot,the story is great, the soundtrack is fantastic,Sephiroth is the best villain EVER.The gameplay is simple and fun,the materia system is simple to understand and allows a lot of customisation and you can make a lot of unique combinations.I like the open world and because of the materia system, players can experience the game their own way which I like a lot in RPGs.When I beat an RPG I don't usually go back to play them again, but I enjoyed FFVII so much that I beat the game twice(Same for FF9 and 6) and I was about to beat it a third time, but I accidently deleted my save file.To me Final Fantasy VII is pretty much the perfect RPG(not including Action RPGs)and I don't think I'll ever see a better RPG,it was pretty much flawless to me.

I guess the only problem I have with the game are the graphics, they are terrible, but I don't play game for graphics so it never really bothered me,but it would be great to have a remake with better graphics, full voice acting a remixed soundtrack(with the option to switch to the original soundtrack at any time like FFIII on PSP) and some extra content.

I beat the game many years ago,but I still can't figure out how I'm suppose to beat Emerald and Ruby weapon, they both have so many HP and the fact they Ruby weapon can make your party members disappear whenever he wants makes the fight impossible.

(THANK GOD SOMEONE CAME HERE ^_^)

Totally agree here....no wonder fans are demanding a remake to this game more than anything else

As for the graphics as I said it's something I can easily forgive considering this is one of their first 3D games....though it made Cloud look like Popeye the Sailor Man lol

As for Ruby and Emerald I need to discover the remaining hidden materia in the game and level all of my characters to Lv99

Speaking of remixed Soundtrack the PSP version of FF4 had that option too

Though the soundtrack of VII was perfect for me,I won't mind a remix as long as it's done by the mighty Nobou Uematsu
