Parents Force Girl to Hold Sign as Punishment for Being Disrespectful. Tough Love or Too Much?

I'm noticing that more people are starting to do that type of punishment to their children nowadays o-o

I think they do it so they can be on TV TBH.

Coulda sworn there was a topic on KH13 a few months ago about parents doing the same thing to some boy...

While I'm sure it works to an extent, it's not worth the negative side effects the poor girl'll get from it. If I was publicly humiliated like that, on top of my social anxiety and such as it is, I doubt I'd ever leave the house again.

Exactly how it is negative. What if the kid is bullied at school? Cons outweigh the pros in my opinion.Sigh...what kids need is parents who will sit down and talk with them, try and understand and help their kids. Public humiliation...it's just going to cause social problems. If it doesn't, lucky.

What? :P You're asking me how it'll have negative effects... when you also think it'll have bad effects? I don't understand the question. I agree the cons outweigh the pros, I'm not applauding this method in the slightest.

I was saying "this is how it is negative."

Sorry, I shoulda typed that more clearly lol.

The parents probably need a psychologist too.  Lots of counseling needed here.  Hope they get the help and not ignore the problem.

And a note at the article: "('self-entitled' isn't even a word)".  It's mutually intelligible to English speakers and is used regularly in casual speech, but you're going to say it isn't a word because your buddy Webster hasn't written it down yet?  God!  People and their worshiping of "standardized English" drives me insane!

Whatever happened to a good old fashioned grounding?

I get trying to sit down and talk about it but that won't work with some kids....not condoning this just think they went about it the wrong way and the dad was a little overboard destroying her laptop... :/

Children must respect their parents, but that kind of punishment goes over the line. Parents need to respect their children too.

oh my god. I agree parents really should talk with their children.

Problem is that teens these days don't seem to respond to things like this. If they get grounded, all they'll do is complain to friends at school and possibly try to find ways to get around the punishment. For more problematic kids, they probably don't respect their parents enough to sit through the conversation that would have to be had for problems like this.

Now, that isn't to say that all teens/kids are like that, or that public humiliation is the right thing to do (I personally think it can work, but to each their own). However, when they stop responding to the more traditional methods, what's to be done? The more resistant to punishment people become, the more extreme the punishments will have to be in order to be effective.

Exactly, and people were applauding what the parents decided to do.

Yet as soon as it happens to some dumb white girl everyone is against it and feels it's necessary to make it a national crisis. Bunch of hypocrites with a double standard if you ask me.

The reason why kids are firetrucking up these days is because parents are just stupid and don't want to actually discipline their kids.

But it's still ridiculous how much butthurt this is causing.

African American boy: Respect for parents, little media attention

Stupid white girl: Hate against parents, national crisis.

firetrucking hypocrites.

I don't see how the girl was stupid when she was just having a hard time.

As for the boy, I still found it stupid what they did to him. He was having a hard time in school all they needed to do was make sure he study/did his homework/ and help him instead of being bullies to their own kid.

You are not helping by acting like that. I hate the racism; but immediately calling a girl stupid because she's white and having a hard time after a loved one's death?Seriously?

This.I find it sad how people cry out against bullying yet do this crap. It's unacceptable.

this is pretty disgusting

i mean at least with spanking its all over once the hand leaves the bum

but this scars people for life

That's not even racism lmao.

PLUS

the point he was making is that the minute someone white is upset about something, it calls for national attention!! like woah!!! white person sees something wrong, let's run to their rescue!!!

but when someone who's PoC calls out an injustice or has something done wrong to them, often no one cares or they are painted as the one in the wrong (despite being the victim).

Koko, I know. I hate the racism of a white person getting more media coverage then a colored person. I know he was not racist but was rude towards the girl all the same.

I was not trying to say he was racist and apologize for not being clear. I disagreed with him being rude toward the girl.

I read your post wrong oops, I thought you were calling his behavior racist towards the girl

Mistakes happen. I could have worded it better anyways. No harm no foul.

Probably shouldn't have called her stupid.

Sorry guys.

I think that's absolutely ridiculous. I think they could find other ways to discipline her then embarass her in front of the whole world. Now, she'll just be bitter to them... people will recognize her and say "Hey, you're that brat I saw on TV the other day!" And that's awful. Keep that shit private.
