This isn't really a joke, but more like a fact/opinion:

-Some members become a bit more tolerable when they've been around for a year.

• I think it's because when they're around for a year they can understand when the older members who have been around longer than them are joking and not being serious. They can also tell when to join in a joke and when to leave it alone.

Running jokes are things that most members (or at least, veteran members), know of and reference to each other. Trying to avoid sounding like an ass, but members who've been on the site for 1-2 months or have < 200 posts, probably shouldn't be thinking of running jokes.

The reason why some of the jokes that are up there are well... up on the list is because they just happen on the forum. Even if you make a post here doesn't make it legit unless a number of people understand the joke and can recognize it as a regular joke spread around on the forums. The ones that are up there are general jokes you can seriously find anywhere and that have been here for a long while. xD
