Okay ive looked at some previous posts but I still cant seem to grasp it in my mind at how this is possible. From my understanding in KH3d Ansem SoD gains the power to time travel by leaving his "shell" behind and traveling to the past because he already has a version of himself there, right?

2nd Ansem SoD teaches Young Xehanort how to time travel like he did so that he could bring the incarnations of Xehanort being Ansem SoD and Xemnas. The only thing i dont get is how he managed to get them before they were defeated. So did Young Xehanort after he learned how to time travel just go forward in time and snatch up his future selves and brought them to the point in The world that never was? If thats the case wouldnt that mess with the timeline a bit? I mean since Sora does eventually defeat both Ansem and Xemnas how is it possible for them to be brought into the future? Or do they just go back after awhile to their timelines once Master Xehanort is done with them to be defeated? Or maybe im just thinking to hard :P

— Were the 13 Seekers of Darkness, who were meant to be in different times, gathered by transcending time with magic?
Nomura: Just as it says in the story, to transcend time one must ‘first’ discard their form. As a result of the actions of the Brown Robed Figure, they all were in a state where they had gained the power to transcend time. The Brown Robed Figure explains the facts. The thirteen were summoned at the same time, this time thanks to Young Xehanort who borrowed that power. However, apart from Young Xehanort, that does not mean that all the members transcended time.

— In other words, Ansem and Xemnas were, at the same time, existing in the time and space of KH3D as well as having returned to their true human form after being destroyed?
Nomura: Yes, it does turn out that way. However, as I said before, ‘The World That Never Was’, where the thirteen all met, is a special space. The mechanics behind how they were all able to exist at the same time is a mystery. From KH1 on, Ansem has returned no matter how many times he has been defeated, perhaps the same sort of thing happened.

You have to follow Star Trek logic. Time travel doesn't make sense, but at the end of the episode, everything works out back to normal... unless it's a two-part episode.

young Xehanort states that by time traveling you canot disrupt the flow of time so he can take them and travel to the present were Master Xehanort is being revived from Xemnas and Ansems destruction without making it as if they were never in the past at all, apparently once they find a thirteenth member they can stay permanetly in the present time all at once but because they didnt they returned to their original time lines losing memory of events that took place outside of the original time line.

time travel can be pretty confusing subject matter but i really like KH's take on it

wait so even though all those xehanorts came to the future they would still bee thrown back in time to just before they were swooped up without having any memory of ever doing it ?.....thus not harming the time line...? i think thts right.... :/

^ Which makes it kinda redundant from my understanding. They cannot disrupt history, cannot go back with any knowledge of what they experienced, and cannot really do anything. It makes me wonder what they point of going back is if nothing is changed and you won't remember the future/ past you seen. I really don't get how it all works in KH, but I also havn't looked into it either. But by YMX explaination, it seemed pointless to me. Then again, I guess what they were trying to say is that KH1 only happened due to YMX intervention and time traveling, so we have been playing in the timeline Xehanort had been toying with to get us where we are in DDD. Maybe exlplaining why YMX showed up in BBS as the Mysterious Figure.

I try to ignore time travel, because it just gets me confused and puts me in a lot of arguments I shouldn't be in. That is one of the reasons I avoided FF XII-2, with all their "Fix the timeline, travel 10 AF, now 500 AF, oh darn you, paradoxes"

You can do things in the past. As stated by YX(?) he will always remember these things deep in his heart (aww, how sweet, lol). In his case all of these things will "force" him even more to leave the island in the past.
About giving up the body: I guess, Xehanort only loses his body while he is time traveling - yeah, Brown Robed Figure may or may not have a body, but YX did have one. Or else he could not fight against Riku, eh?

So, I think, it is possible to change the future/past but only if a person from the past (like YX) would experience something that would stay in his heart and be more powerful than his wish to leave the island or something like that.

he was able to grab both of them because he could time travel to their location, thats why you need another version of yourself in that time. and the reason there are no paradox's is because when everyone goes back to their original time they lose all memory of anything they did while time traveling so nothing changes.

"So nothing changes" which begs the question, why do it? Does it not? I'm sure there is something I am missing, because it has to make some kind of "KH" sense.

Something that puzzels me is why don't they use it to win? Go back in time to when kairi was on destiny islands as a little girl and no one could stop them. They could finish anyone they wanted to with time travel. Actually they could go back in time and kill aqua so that the whole ventus/vanitas thing works. This is why I was dissapointed at the "time travel" concept, because it makes no sense. <_<
