Whites and Non-Whites. Makes no sense, it says "Black, Hispanic, Asian and mixed-race births made up 50.4% of new arrivals in the year ending in July 2011" meaning together they make up more than half of the population, but separately, there are still more Caucasians in the USA...
This is why America is called a melting pot XD..As an American, im not surprised.
Might be called a melting pot, but it's far from it.

hispanics are hispanic, that's why theyre called hispanics
theyre not white
and the reason some of them look 'white' is because they probably have spanish blood in them

hispanics are hispanic because there mix with indian, black, and white. most hispanics are mix with mostly whites and so they look white >_>
if you would look in the u.s census it clearly classifies half of them as white.

The only thing I have a problem with, is that Spanish is being taught at schools better than English. It's always amazing to be a bilingual person. I'm teaching myself Japanese and eventually I want to learn Italian (because my family is Italian and from Italy) but when I walk around and see everything in Spanish, have to "Press 1" in order to hear English.. like, come on. You came HERE. Why should I have to learn a totally different language? I'm not saying ALL of them, but a lot of them don't even bother to learn English and then get mad if we can't understand them. Why not be best of both worlds so you can keep your culture, yet still live in America and be able to communicate with us as well? I may sound ignorant, but Im definitely not trying to sound it. Im just saying as the melting pot Country that we are, more of them need to learn our culture and speak our language as well. If we go to their Country (And I mean anyones') they HATE when we can't communicate with them. Hell, they don't even want us there for the most part.
I know where you're coming from but like
America is definitely not a melting pot.
I don't know who came up with the whole melting pot thing, but honestly, that's untrue.
Saying we're a melting pot is suggesting all the cultures have blended and become one.
No.
We're a salad, different cultures that don't blend together completely.
America is not one culture.
It's many.
Also English is taught in most other countries and English isn't even the US's official language, so I have no problem if Spanish becomes dominant.

You're making no sense
white =/= hispanic
they're not white because they're HISPANIC
Hispanics are people that descend from SPAIN.
Meaning LATIN COUNTRIES.
They're not white.
If the US classified half of them as white, why are they called Hispanics and not white.
And Hispanics who look white either
Have more Spanish blood in them, making them look white (because Spaniards are essentially white, but Hispanics are not because they're a mix of other things)
Or they had a white parental figure making them look white.
They're still Hispanic.
Not white.
I'm Hispanic.
Not white.
My whole city is HISPANIC.
Not white.

Okay, salad haha I've been hearing the term "melting pot" since grade school. It's not that I mind Spanish or any other language because I absolutely don't, I just don't like the fact illegal aliens come into the Country and expect us to learn it just for them. Thats not right, especially since people like me (tax payers) are the ones paying for their welfare, benefits, insurance, food stamps… Again, not ALL, but this does happen. It's a proven fact and also why the economy is so bad. And axel_lea_lives_on, English is supposed to be the official language haha But because of illegal aliens, its politically incorrect to be "against" other languages. And again, Im NOT against them, but these people who come to America should speak English as well and become legal. If you want to live in our Country, make our money, live in our houses, speak English, learn how we operate and become legal. Some Americans go to different countries illegally and they're killed. Literally.

firetrucking this. I'm not White. Never call me White. Not saying I hate Whites, but my culture has a lot of history and for all that to be just be thrown aside pisses me off.

This I agree with.
They should at least TRY to learn english, at least enough to function. But sometimes it's harder for some, like my mom has been trying to learn english for the past few years and she still hasnt gotten the hang of it.
Also I don't have anything against illegal aliens mostly because I guess I kind of understand? maybe it's just because I live on the border and i know a lot of non citizens idk
oh but may i add i also think it's unfair that most other countries have to teach English
like seriously,,,
i think it should be the same for english speakers, if we're going to another country, try to learn the language imo.

We dont have an official language ... Even though our dominant language is English its not official. Not that i dont think it should be. IMO It should be . As of right now it isnt .We are taught in school that the proper term for us is a melting pot. Thats why i called it that . But in truth we arent totally melted. We still have a lot of separate cultures no doubt .Look at California and New York especially . ..They are great examples of neighborhoods separated by cultures..There are neighborhoods all over the US where different cultures congregate together into communities...Yes i also agree that all immigrants should come legally and pay taxes like the rest of us Americans do.

I agree with this last statement as well. If I were to move permanently to Japan, I would absolutely know the language, know their culture (and also learn more as I go as to not disrespect), become a legal resident and do whatever possible to make myself successful there. If Americans want to live in a different Country, make sure you now their language and culture first. Same goes to the people who want to move to America. Do it the right way because then it makes it easier for everyone. We would all get along so much better and have a better understanding of each other.
