before I Start

I'm not ranting\trolling neither sonic nor his fans

I was once a big crazy fan of sonic the hedgehog

until that shit called Sonic Next Gen(sonic 06) came out and wrecked everything that I admire in sonic
and since then

the quality of sonic games still downgrading with only very few exceptions like colors and to a certain extent......Generations
I don't know about you
but Generations was so overrated for me and they could've done much much better....I know it has a huge nostalgia but this is the same card sega is still playing to keep on milking the series

If Sonic is ever destined to survive at least until 2014 Sega should a couple of things other than repeating the same old ideas like some games(coughcallofdutycough)

1\streach the development time.....most of sonic games takes 3 to 5 months in development and most of them has a very poor quality....they should at least make 1 sonic game every 1 and a half year so the games come in better quality

2\they have to develop the already good ideas and elements and try to come up with a unique new one that support the core gameplay style instead of coming with half-assed ideas(I'm looking at you sonic the WEREHOG)

3\ they have to come up with a good storywriting for the Series like SA1 & SA2 instead of overdark-non logical connections with black aliens(shadow the hedgehog game) or a plot that doesn't make any sense(Go To Hell Sonic 06)
Note:if you don't like deep stories for sonic games just skip the cutscenes...there are some sonic fans that demand a good story

4\bring back the characters that don't hurt the core gameplay like shadow the hedgehog and Blaze:seriously why they kicked shadow out for no reason despite he has the same moves as aonic and more.....he even does the Boost ability in generations

Thats all I wanted to say because..............even for those who think that sonic is back
Sonic generations sales aren't that high and sega keeps on losing money and staff until this very moment
they need more than just the (going back to the roots)sentence to make a decent platform games that rivals games like Rayman origins or even the ol plumper mario
if Sega cannot make a game that is better than Generations and Colors

Sonic might die like crash bandicoot or even get bought by another company

Soooo.............what do you think

what else that the blue hedgehog and sega need in order to live for another couple of years???????

There's a couple of things you should keep in mind.

It's true that Sonic 06 sucked, but all of this happened because the fans wanted that game earlier.

And you're forgetting Sonic Unleashed. The daytime stages were pretty good, and set off the games for Future Sonic.

And you're also forgetting Sonic Colours. Despite the fact that it only came out in the Wii and the DS, it was pretty good. And it reintroduced the 2D gameplay that was later put in Sonic Generations.

Sonic Generations was very good. Probably one of the best Sonic games in the 21st century.

But I have to agree with you on certain points.

After Sonic Generations, Sonic is falling in grace.

That awful game they're talking about is... well I'm not even going to talk about it.

Sonic's time has passed just like Megaman. Nuff said.

I couldn't agree more.

But Sonic did have some high points during the last years.

In the end, after everything you've said. It all depends on the consumers and the marketing of the game.

Nostalgia/overrated or not. 'Generations' is the game that majority fans want in a Next/Current Gen Sonic game for the past 10 years. The fanbase is still going strong but we'll see how Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode 2 handles.

All games before '06 ruled. Unleashed (daytime) was pretty freaking good if you ignore the werehog, Colors was a MAJOR step forward and got Sonic back on the road, Generations perfected the formula. I expect the next few Sonic games will have the same boosting, stomping, homing attacking, sliding that has worked so far.

who said I forgot about colors????? I actually like it.....especially the idea of the wisps in the game
and I agree that sonic is in the right track gameplay-wise but sales-wise is something different
why a sonic game cannot sell more than 2 million like the old days???????
the sonic fanbase is way less than it was before Sonic 06 and they need to attract more fans in order to keep sonic alive
Sega keeps on losing money and staff and thats not a good thing for the blue hedgehog
Sonic needs more than just 2D and old stages.........
about Episode 2.....I admit there is an improvement unlike the horrible first episode...but I'll buy it if they bundle it with episode1 so that I can get episode metal

i agree, but you have to keep in mind something, sonic has one of the most horrible fan base that has been wanting a game sequel for "Sonic Adventure 2" for more than 10 years now, its fan base its pretty horrible.
Sonic generation was a good game, but mostly the modern stages for me, its a big turn for sega, but its still not big enough of a turn to change all the games that the fans dint like.
Im like any other sonic fan, i actually LIKED 06, and Unleashed was pretty cool (except the werehog),

I don't want Sonic to end, regardless of other people's opinions, both because he is a living legend and also because i just don't want the series to end at least not until after a couple more generations, since i love the story, characters, music, gameplay, artwork and just about everything else about Sonic the Hedgehog, not to mention he was born in the same Generation that i was, the 1990's and so, not just for me, who as obviously stated above, wants to see the series keep on going but also the next generation of children that will surely come after us all, will know just awesome, epic, powerful and how majestic Sonic is and that i hope, will they develop a liking towards the series, i really just love the Sonic series and i don't want to see it end around this time :[.

The quality of a game has nothing to do with their franchise surviving. Sonic games still sell very well, and that's all that counts. Sega can still afford fancy cgi for the games, and tonnes of advertising, which is more than what many game developers can claim.
Sega could release a piece of cardboard that syas 'Sonic' on it, and it that sells, the Sonic franchise will continue (Inb4 'That would still be better than 06!')

But you know what? I'm getting sick of people citing Sonic 06 for everything.
Sonic games are good!
Nope, because Sonic 06
Games should try new things!
Sonic 06 tried new things, why do you want every game to be like Sonic 06?
Everybody I know and love spontaneously died!
It's because of Sonic 06

Sonic 06 was six years ago. It's time to get over it.

believe me
no one here wants sonic to end
especially me
I was born 1 year before sonic 1 and I lived with sonic games since the beginning
there is a time when I saw sonic as the best video game character
I hope things turn better for our blue hedgehog

'Turn better'
His last game (Generations) sold about 2 million copies.
Sonic Unleashed has sold 4.3 million
Sonic Colours sold 2.3 million
Combined, the Sonic Rush series has sold 4 million
I mean, even Sonic 06 has 2 million sales.

Generations had more preorders than any Sonic game in history.
When you are selling in the millions with each game, and you release at least one game per year, with a '3-5 month development time' (Spoilers, the games are actually in development for several years, and usually get around a year or more of 'proper development time)
And whether you think Generations is overrated or not has no bearing on whether the franchise will last two more years.

(Gotta love how any game released on a Nintendo console tends to have dramatically higher sales >.>)

Thank you. Everyone always blames 06 for everything. Sure it wasnt a great game, but lets face it all the sonic games after it havent lived up to the standards of adventure 1 and 2. whats even worse about that is that those game were released in the 90's. Unleashed was a bumpy ride and colors was just not 3D Sonic. I mean come on over 4/5 of the game is pretty much 2D. plus the first stage of an area is pretty much the only original stage. All the others are mostly just copies of sections with a couple of differences. Generations was all right but after city escape the game kinda went down hill. plus the fact that modern sonic is not built for 3D platforming (Mostly used in crisis city and seaside hill). What I hope is that they go back to the Adventure 1 and 2 mechanics. They worked and they provide a damn good game. 06 was simply rushed which is why those mechanics were terribly unpolished and simply unfinished. Honestly Sonic will go on forever, but unless they change what they are doing with him he will not be a big of a hit as he is now.

I'm really curious how Generations doesn't have an engine built for 3D platforming. Nor how a game relying on 2D sections is devaluing in any way.
Nor do I see why there is a problem with what Sega is doing (Their philosophy as of now is basically 'Make the best game we can, and listen to fans')
Adventure 1 and 2 are decent games (Adventure 2 is actually my favourite 3D Sonic game... when I play as Sonic (Or Evil!Sonic)) but neither has aged terribly well, and they aren't particularly good in the first place. Adventure 1 is practically coated in glitches, mostly harmful ones, and both have terrible voice acting problems, Adventure 1 being the incredibly messed up lip syncing (Where Sonic talks with his eyebrows) and Adventure 2 has some of the laziest sound editing ever ("Faker? You're not even good enough to be my-" "I'll make you eat those words!")
Sonic games are a pretty flawed bunch, but that's part of what gives them their charm. I honestly believe that Sonic games have endured where others have not because of the flaws of its old games. Observe
You see, Eggman wants you to get a load of this; after all, you know what they say, the more the merrier! It's not? No way! I can't believe this! Aw yeah! This is happenin'! What's happenin'? Well, it all starts with this, the jewel containing the ultimate power, which will show you the real superpower of team work! No copyright law in the universe will stop me!
Okay, that was a bit much... woah! my head's spinning. I'm outta here. I'm going for a walk. Not far, an easy jog if the planet weren't split up, anyways, no point in dawdling... let's get moving!
It's because I can say that, that Sonic has a place in my heart.

And you know what the best moral to go by here is? Just live and learn. It doesn't matter now what's happened, just enjoy the games that Sega puts in front of you, open your heart, it's going to be all right, just enjoy yourself, it's a lot easier that way, life's too short. Obviously you're not going to like everything, you can't be the hero every time, but dwelling on things will only lessen your enjoyment of something you might actually abide by under other circumstances. One thing's for sure, it's not worth the time slipping down your spine to complain about and pick apart games, and you can believe me when I say that if you came back for more, I would respond with just as many Sonic references.
Unlike Sonic I don't chuckle.

I don't think Sonic will die yet,his games are still fun to play and his sales are good enough, but Sega do have some work to do to ensure Sonic's safety, but that shouldn't be a problem.

Sonic 06 is pretty much like Sonic adventure 3,it shares a lot of similarities with SA 1 and 2 even though its not as good.

I dont know why you had to make a ton of references, but thats not the point. You buy a 3D Sonic game for majority of 3D at the least. Also regardless of the bugs in adventure 1 and 2 those games are still considered the best 3D Sonic games regardless of what you think of them. Also I do see the crappy lip syncing, but I like the gameplay more than any other part of the game. Also Unleashed, colors, and generations have alot of bugs. Unleashed has the most, but Generations also has alot. Honestly Sega was doing fine before they truly listened to fans.
