...passed his Mark of Mastery.

In the game:
- He completed his task
- He saved Sora from the darkness within him
- He acquired the new power they were searching for
- He showed true mastery of the Keyblade
- ... and mastery of the heart
- He was able to lock darkness within himself

But personally, I think he passed because he really needed a morale booster. I mean he was supposed to be the original Keyblade Wielder among his friends and then let the darkness take over him just to leave the Island. Then he caused his friends quite a deal of pain. Not only that, if he hadn't let the darkness in Ansem: SoD, would have had to search for a different vessel, which could have possibly ruined their plans. If you think about it, if he didn't pass I think it would have affected him more than it did Sora.

What do you guys think?

I think Riku has earned his redemption and deserved to be a Master. It takes strength to overcome and accept yourself completely..Sora needed to learn some humility and it'll only make him rise up stronger..

I was thinking the same thing. We all know his experiences with the darkness and ASOD. I think in this game, he showed that he reedeemed himself and is now a full fledged warrior for the light. He performed the tasks that were asked of him and was able to show his mastery of the keyblade.

I wouldn't say it's humility. Sora switches between 'I can do anything' to 'I have no idea what's going on at all' pretty quickly. I'm kinda worried about what's going to happen next. On topic, I guess it is better for Riku to pass.

Well, that's a theory, but I doubt it had anything to do with boosting his morale, in the end.

Sora was overly cocky so yes he needed to learn humility .He almost was possessed bc of it . He didnt listen to what he was told and look where he ended up. ..Im sure he'll learn from it just like Riku learned from his mistakes.

I guess Riku did deserve his title, but I have to agree that it is a convinient moral booster for him. I think Terra had a good intuition there.

You couldn't be more right. I mean I noticed that as well, Nomura established Riku's importance in this game. He (Nomura) gave Riku the Final Boss, Riku SAVED Sora from the darknes (Ironic) and he put him as a playable caracter.
