I was just watching some cutscenes from KH2 when they were in Space Paranoids and came across something which might explain the difference between these two worlds. Below is a quote by Tron:

"You're inside a mainframe computer system. A computer system- for processing data. This system is a copy of one created by a corporation called ENCOM. The original program was destroyed. But this copy was acquired by another User. The new User updated and customized the programs, renaming the system "Hollow Bastion OS". He used the system for town maintenance, and to advance his private research."

So what we got from this quote is:
- The world we visit in KH2, Space Paranoids, is a copy of a system originally created by the corporation ENCOM. How Ansem acquired this system is unknown and irrelevant if you ask me. Maybe it somehow ties into the hidden data Ansem put inside Sora, but I'm getting off-topic so lets move on.

- Tron says that the original program created by ENCOM was destroyed. When this program was destroyed it probably found its way into the Realm of Sleep, and is the world we know as The Grid.


It seems then that The Grid is the original version of this program created by ENCOM, while Space Paranoids is copy updated and customized by Ansem the Wise.



This is all new to me but, I apologize if this has been obvious to other users for awhile.

I figured as much. After all, in TRON Legacy, both the ENCOM system and the Grid were two separate systems.

tron saying original was destroyed actually leads in perfectly into tron legacy (cause the story is that everyone thought the world was gone but the main characters father rebuilt it) but anyway nice find

This makes perfect sense. I would almost be willing to bet that you're right about this.
