A kindergarten teacher at a private Christian school in Rockville turned herself in to police this morning after police say they uncovered her sexual relationship with a 16-year-old male student.
Ashley Jean Campbell, 27, of the unit block of Thompson Road in Cochranville, Pa., is charged with two counts each of the sexual abuse of a minor and fourth-degree sex offense, according to Montgomery County police. She was released after posting a $250,000 unsecured personal bond this morning, according to an online search of Montgomery County District Court documents.
Campbell was listed as a kindergarten teacher at Montrose Christian School, which serves students in kindergarten through 12th grade at 5100 Randolph Road in Rockville, according to the school's website.
School officials released a statement Thursday announcing Campbell's immediate termination.
"Montrose Christian is fully cooperating with authorities. No incidents took place on the campus of Montrose Christian School," the release states. "... Montrose Christian is requesting prayer for all involved."
Campbell turned herself in to police and is cooperating with the investigation, said Montgomery County police spokeswoman Officer Janelle Smith.
"[Campbell] admitted to the charges during an interview with detectives," Smith said, adding that additional charges were not likely because detectives do not believe Campbell was involved with other students.
Police were tipped off to the relationship Feb. 3 in "an anonymous email" to school officials, Smith said. The school contacted the department's Family Crimes Division that day.
Detectives identified the victim and learned from him that the relationship began in the fall 2010 and continued until last month, Smith said. The student told police and Campbell later confirmed that the two would drive to a county park after school and have sex, Smith said.
Smith did not know how many times Campbell and the student had sex over the two year period.
No attorney information was listed for Campbell as of Thursday afternoon in an online search of court records.
This is the second time in a week a Rockville teacher has been arrested for having a sexual relationship with a student. Last week, a Rockville middle school teacher and high school track coach was charged with having sex with a girl, 16.

That is just wrong.
I'm so glad I don't live in America.
Why? This shit is either legal or not punished in some countries.

I love how they have to add the word "Christian" in the headlines. Because only Christians do things like that. *sarcasm*

It's not so much the faith itself as much as the hypocrisy people tend to exhibit as they proselytize. Ted Haggard anybody?

So there's no hypocrisy when an adult of another faith (or unaffiliated with a faith) has sex with a minor? I was sure that Christians weren't the only ones who believe that sex outside of marriage and/or with a minor is wrong...
EDIT: That's not to imply that everyone believes sex outside of marriage is wrong, but the fact that there are laws against sexual relations between adults and minors tells me that the general American population is against the latter.

I wasn't implying that Christians were the only people that could be faulted for that. Going against principles is a universal goof, after all. I was Pointing out why putting Christian as a descriptor was so conspicuous. (In this case a member of a sexually conservative religion commiting sexual acts deviant enough to be considered almost universally unacceptable.)
I'm sorry for the poor elaboration on my part.,
