StopSOPA - Internet Blackout Jan 18

I don't think getting off websites is going to sway their decision, as getting off for a little while has nothing to do with Internet piracy. It will just show them that we actually can get off the internet and then guess what? They will have no problem passing this law.

Makes no sense. : |

firetruck SOPA.

I guess Canada sounds like a swell place to live in, eh?

Canadians suck.

Nobody wants to live there.

Canada is pretty much a protectorate of America. If they were ever in trouble America would be the first country they would turn to.

There is no alliance stronger than that of Canada and America.

that is literally the most uneducated and all around ignorant post i have ever seen fred post.

what's really sad is we have never had a canadian on this site insult america because we all have american friends and respect them and their country, despite how easy it is to mock the us.

Care to explain what was so uneducated and ignorant? Ever since Canada became free of British control they have been Buddy-Buddy with the United States in every way, shape and form. I don't think I said anything wrong.

Can someone please explain what's so bad about SOPA? Isn't it supposed to stop piracy? That sounds like a good thing to me.

Disney could sue Daniel for this site if it passes

Youtube couldn't be accessed

neither could Facebook

or tumblr

or twitter

or anything really

Why would it stop those sites? I thought it would only stop pirating of movies, music, etc online.
The bill would allow the US government to go after any site if there is just ONE infringing thing on the website. The website can get taken down even if it's a foreign website or not. =

because that's what the bill states

for example:

daniel has content of the KH video games (music, cutscenes etc) up for download here

those contain Disney content

Meaning Disney can sue because they don't want their content freely distributed

In that case, that sucks. I thought it would be just to shut down file-sharing type sites, which I would be okay with, but that is much worse!!!

Canada and America are definitely very co-dependent on each other in varying degrees, and I agree with you when you say that they're one of the strongest alliances out there.

However, you also pretty much just called Canada another state for America, and the only reason we don't get attacked by other countries is because America is there to hold our hands. Whether you intended it or not, that can (and in Cellar's case, has) come off as extremely insulting to Canadians.

But back on topic...

I'm all for stopping piracy, but SOPA is just a terribly written mess that essentially takes away our freedom on the internet. That's why it's important that some large sites perform a blackout: so the people who aren't aware of SOPA learn what it can, and will, mean for us.

And for the people who don't live in America and think this makes you safe, it doesn't. If this passes, the US government will have the right to take down any and all sites that so much as contain links to copyrighted content, regardless of location.

Something needs to be done about this, and now. There have been some small steps forward (the bill being slightly rewritten, and the date for hearing being pushed back), but it's not over yet. There's another bill called PIPA that can prove to be just as dangerous if it passes, and it's not getting nearly enough attention. We have to fight these bills before its too late.

Ohohoho google I see what you did there:

LONG LIVE THE CONSTITUTION! LONE LIVE THE FIRST AMENDMENT! LONG LIVE FREEDOM OF SPEECH ( With exceptions)

Oh and for those who say that Canada sucks- They are, in my opinion, one of the greatest countries in the world. and guess what? they actually prove that a nationwide health care system can work!

Let the blackout begin.

Yes. Oh yes. I cheered when I saw that. And wikipedia, where everyone gets the best information from, has blacked out too. Right there is most likely the main thing that could help us.

But with so many people and major sites against this, I don't see how they'll be able to pass it.

why does SOPA/PIPA actully want to they wanna stop us from being free?
