The Land of Departure was transformed into Castle Oblivion which exists in the Realm of In-Between, I think it was.
We might see the world in KH3D, but not in the Realm of Sleep.

Like the previous poster said. It transformed into Castle Oblivion which resides in the realm of Twilight like Twilight Town.
That's why Sora could get their without a problem in CoM.

It's not actually sleeping. It has been turned into Castle Oblivion by Aqua, who followed exactly what Eraqus had told her before his demise. It has a small possibility of appearing again -- which might increase when they free Aqua from the Realm of Darkness. But really, unless the three of them - Terra, Ven & Aqua - come back before the last KH game of Xehanort's Saga, which probably won't happen, I don't see why they would put it on a game besides the last one. Also, Eraqus' heart is in Terra, and so we have a very small chance of seeing him return..

The land of departure was a world in the realm of light. According to one of Ansem's reports, Castle Oblivion is situated in the realm between light and dark. Another example of this is Traverse Town. In these worlds, random corridors of darkness open.

So how is it that by using Eraqus' keyblade, Aqua changed the location of her home world. It is certainly something to think about. I used to believe that CO was really just Lod given a makeover. But how is it that the worlds now exist in different realms. Perhaps they co-exist, perhaps they are the same. We cannot be fully sure if the two worlds co-exist, or if they are one... If you say the real Lod is sleeping, you imply that the two worlds are indeed seperate, and that the Lod now resides in the realm of sleep.. Did Yen Sid not say that worlds fallen to darkness, some did not recover fully and are in a state of sleep... And MX did send Lod into darkness, before Aqua transformed it.. So this may mean, that Lod fell into the dark realm, it did not fully recover and is now in the sleeping realm. This is the only way that a world could fall into sleep, according to YS. They didn't recover fully from the darkness.

It is indeed plausible.. We may see the Lod in 3D, but I am wondering what it could contribute to the plot. It is just a ruin... Ventus is in CO, not Lod. BUT then again they could be the same... I will just have to buy 3D to find the answer.

I actually really think, yes.
The original form of the LoD Is under sleep, since it's now CO in the ROL.
Remember Coded's secret ending? "I think we're finally close to finding out where Ven's heart is!" this struck me a while ago.
It doubtlessly has a connection to the Realm of Sleep.

It is possible that a sleeping LoD may have connections to CO. Possibly, a part of Ven's sleeping heart may be in it.

Ventus was in Land of Departure when it was transformed into Castle Oblivion and he continued to be there after the transformation. I don't see any reasons for him to not be there if it ever where to transform back to the world original state. Though, I don't get how or why Castle Oblivion would ever manage to become Land of Departure again.

Actually, I'm pretty sure LoD was in the realm between. I think Eraqus said, "this world lies between light and dark, and there are those who would abuse that" or something to that effect.
I'm unsure about the mechanics of the realm of sleep--we don't really know specifically that only worlds that failed to be restored are in the realm of sleep; "sleeping worlds" can also have other meanings. Then there's the fact that we've seen Mickey in there, and several incarnations of Xehanort. The true form of LoD could be considered to be sleeping in a way. Also, I wonder about Traverse Town; it was made out of the remnants of destroyed worlds, but was never destroyed itself; after everything went back to normal, it probably just disappeared, but you see it in there two. Using this logic, it's possible, but you're right, I do think it's unlikely. It depends on what exactly is going to happen in this game.
