Chapter 1
Signs
It was a usual day for Zack... He always left the school with the bus and his destination was the orphanage. He was a 14 year old boy with blue beautiful eyes and brown hair. His parents had died 6 years ago in an airplane crash, when he was only 8. No one could manage Zack so his uncle sent him to an orphanage.
Zack was a quiet boy. He had only one real friend. His name was Lenny. They were always hanging out during the school breaks. Lenny was 2 years older than Zack. His friends were always saying that Zack isn’t cool so they couldn’t hang out with him, but Lenny didn’t care. Lenny was tall and all the girls were in love with him.
Zack was interested in arts. He loved drawing. He usually liked drawing the elements like Fire, Water, Earth and Air… He had a sketch book. Inside it he drew these four elements in many different ways.
Zack always had strange dreams. After each one he would draw them in his sketch book. His dreams were always about things he couldn’t understand. They would wake him up in the middle of the night. He could never describe them. They were very strange. His teacher Miss Helen was like his friend. He would talk to her about the dreams. She always ruffled his hair and said the same thing: “You’ll know when you grow up”.
When the bus arrived at the orphanage Zack ran to the front door. He opened it and ran to his room. He changed his clothes and took a bag where his sketch book was. He locked the door. It was the “resting time” as the teachers of the orphanage called it and everyone had to sleep. But Zack refused to follow the rules. He took a big rope that was under his bed. He tied the rope on the desk and threw it outside the window. He slowly took the rope and climbed down. When his legs touched the ground he cut the rope so the teachers wouldn’t see it. Then he started running to the park where he usually met Lenny to hang out. He saw Lenny sitting on a bench waiting for him. After some time a girl came and started flirting Lenny, so Zack left. He looked at his watch and sighed. He felt (thought) lonely. He felt like he was losing his only friend. He was going to leave the school next season and he wanted to have an unforgettable time with him. He had some time so he went and sat on a bench that was facing directly at the sunset. He sat and took his sketch book. He started drawing the sun. Fire was his favorite element because it was warm but dangerous. He left his sketch book on the bench and looked at the sunset. Suddenly he saw flames next to him. The sketch book was on fire!!! Zack started panicking. All his drawings were going to get destroyed. But he looked at the sketch book and it wasn’t even burnt. Just fire was coming out of it. He touched the fire carefully. The fire was harmless and cold. He shoved his hands in the fire and took out a ball of fire. Zack could not believe what he could do. He threw the fireball in the air and sparks came out of it. He tried to take another fireball but the fire was really hot. Then the fire vanished and the sketch book was okay. Zack was confused. He looked at his drawing of the sun but it was not there. The page he drew the sun was blank. Zack’s thinking was interrupted when the clock of the town started echoing. It was 4 o’clock. He quickly ran back to the orphanage.
That night Zack saw again a strange dream. This time it was a fire. And he was in it….
