the collections aren't available on Xbox One soooooooooo how the firetruck are newcomers on Xbox can play the rest of the series without forking 400$+ for another system and the collections

That and there are younger people who can't get all the games cause they don't have the money (yes, children play the game). I think it would be OK for people to just watch videos on Youtube if they want to fully enjoy the experience. I'm still not gonna play the mobile game.

Like you said,it's better to just watch a summary of the plot on youtube, play KH3 then if they liked the game they can get the collections to experience the rest of the series

There is no excuse for Square not to release the collection on Xbox One or heck even the Switch(KH2 on the go is my dream)

Or.

Or.

A bunch of people go in blind and we laugh at their confusion.

Having the HD collection ported to the Switch would be amazing, though.

1/I'm not talking about myself but a couple of friends I know who has this issue since I already have a Ps4

And 2/Why would people sell their console for one series of games?

If they want the series to go multiplatform then they gotta commit to it.And Square failed at that by not porting over the collections

And no the whole "sony exclusivity contract" bullcrap is complete nonsense cuz if it was real then why did the series have like......5 entries on Nintendo systems

Kids can't always shell out the money it takes to buy the collections/consoles, and fuddy duddy adults like me won't always spare the time and effort to play everything. If who I am now just now wanted to get into KH, I probably wouldn't bother with it no matter how much it interested me. Even Youtube videos summarizing the story can be a huge time investment, given how bloated KH has become. I honestly quit watching Everglow's recap videos for that exact reason (that, and I already know most of the non-Chi storyline).

I have mixed feelings about forcing newcomers to play everything before KH3. A story spanning multiple games across multiple consoles is different from a story across multiple books or movies. Books and movies don't have the same amount of cost or time investment as games do. And yes, there are the PS4 collections, but veterans who've been with the series since the beginning didn't have that luxury. For most of KH's life, you either shelled out the money for the different consoles, or tough luck -- you weren't playing the games. Youtube mitigated this somewhat, but it's still an honest criticism that I think can be leveled at KH.

But on the other hand... yeah, you kinda do need to be familiar with the previous games to understand KH. If you go into the final game in a long-running series without having understood the previous installments, then you're out of luck. That's just how it is. Should that be a mark against KH? I dunno, probably, but I don't really care. I was lucky enough to catch KH around the middle of its lifespan and be at a point in my life where I could freely enjoy the games I could play. The argument just doesn't affect me, and I don't want it to. I just wanna enjoy KH3 and not watch arguments between confused newcomers complaining, and veteran players complaining about the confused newcomers complaining.

That's depends on the person. Some newcomers wants to play Kingdom Hearts 3 because the new trailers peak their interest and they're curious about the game. If the newcomers really want to know more about the series before they play Kingdom Hearts 3, I say they should go and buy the Kingdom Hearts collections, 1.5+2.5 and 2.8 for the PS4 and try it out for themselves and experience the games. Also, I will say yes that the newcomers need to know the story and characters from the previous games to understand what's going on in Kingdom Hearts 3. Or better yet just watch all the walkthroughs on YouTube to get them up to speed. Plus, Nomura did said that they're planning to include five recap episodes from the previous Kingdom Hearts games in Kingdom Hearts 3. They're planning to include some videos for gamers who didn't play the other games to help them understand the series. And some other people who are, like me, OG fans of the Kingdom Hearts series and plan on playing the other games before Kingdom Hearts 3. I'm definitely planning to play Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 and Kingdom Hearts 2.8 before Kingdom Hearts 3, but due to the long hours of gameplay in the collections I'm going to set up a schedule to play and watch all the games and movies in the collections before I buy and play Kingdom Hearts 3. It really depends on the person. They either really interesting to play these game or they just don't care at all.

I think it depends on what you enjoy about games. You can still have a blast with KH3 if the gameplay is good and you just want to slash all manner of creatures throughout the Disney universe.

That being said, I do think KH3 is not the best place to start if a player cares about story. Nomura already said it. While they will try to somehow include a recap to at least provide an overview, KH3 is a game for the fans and I also think it should not be the job of the 11th game (if we count UX as a separate entry from BC) to introduce newcomers to the series, otherwise it will become boring for those who already know their way around the series.

Yes, it is time-consuming and of course it's not grsat that Xbox users are left out for now, but as some people said, there's still Youtube and Co.. If people can't be bothered to watch that, I certainly don't mind either but it's really no argument that there weren't enough opportunities or enough time. Back then when everything was still kinda new with that and it was distributed over all manner of consoles, okay, but nowadays? Don't get me wrong, I'm not forcing anyone to play it if they don't want to but saying they couldn't inform themselves prior to purchasing it is barely an excuse anymore.

Nonetheless, the only thing I will absolutely not support is when people complain about not getting the story and calling it terrible because they haven't played the other games or at least watched a summary/walkthrough/Let's Play/etc. We don't know if the story will be good or bad but a bad review with an argument based on the inability of people to invest some time is not understandable.

I am all for newcomers starting with KH3 if they so please. But there are just some things they cannot rate or judge if they do. They could argue how much effort the game puts into getting them up to date, but is that really what matters in the final chapter of the Xehanort saga? I personally don't want to waste time with too many flashbacks for example.

I've said it coubtless times before, but people can't complain about not understanding the 11th volume of a book without reading the other ones. In fact, I doubt a lot of people would pick it up.

That being said, it's up to the gamers what they want to do and I won't judge anyone for playing without having played the other games. If they enjoy it, that's fine. It's just ridiculous to complain about story aspects then unless they are contradicting themselves for example or are incoherent. But I wouldn't get angry over it either since it's more embarrassing for them than it matters for me. At least I would be embarrassed to be caught talking about something I have absolutely no clue about.

In the end, it's up to the individual to decide on shat they want to play. I feel like the 3 may already intimidate players if they know it's a story that's connected (nowadays, not all games are after all), but on a positive note, it might make them pick up the other games if the premise is promising.

I know there's been this debate on Twitter but I honestly don't care if some person thinks their limited understanding of the story allows them to really be credible. In the end, people will either care about a game enough to at least try and get the gist of it or they're just mildly interested anyway. There are people who simply don't get too invested in a single game. It's questionable if KH3 is the best option then but they're old enough to decide what they want to spend their money on and old enough to use the internet.

TBH I don't understand why any newcomers with an XBone would be interested in playing KH3 if not for the gameplay. They should be completely aware that if they jump into KH3 with no background info they're going to be completely lost, due to KH having a reputation for its convoluted story.

Anyway, I'm betting the kinds of people who are newcomers that are going to start with KH3 are going to be the types that either don't care about the story at all, thus they wouldn't care about playing the other games much, or are completely ignorant as to what Kingdom Hearts is about and are probably just buying it because of the game's triple A status. So in the end, it's kind of pointless to throw out the message that they should play the rest of the series before KH3 comes out. The message will just fall on deaf ears.

I completely understand that it's possible to get drawn into KH even if you start in the later games though. Heck, I started at 358/2 days, and if it weren't for the fact that I was a content blind teenager that thought anything that wasn't downright ugly was good, I would have quickly become disillusioned with the series and judge it from the fragment of perspective I got from playing Days. But that won't be the case for everyone.
