The "Dream Sword" into the movie "The Black Cauldron" (1985)

I was seeing images through Google and I just noticed this.

The "Magic Sword" from the movie The Black Cauldron (1985) -called Dyrnwyn in the novel- is almost identical to the "Dream Sword" from Kingdom Hearts.

Info from the Disney Wikia: http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Magic_Sword

Inspiration? Coincidence? Conspiracy?

this is why I love kingdom hearts 1 above all the other games no matter what you do you will always find another gem! It is also extremly cool to see that they somehow did incorporate every disney movie ever in one game which makes sense since no one knew if there would be another game at that point. I am sure if we dig deep enough we will find some reference to marry poppins

In this case, today I saw the movie and I have not found anything else.

Dang, what an interesting find! The swords look practically the same, of course, the difference being the color palette and the Mickey Mouse emblem, but that's beside the point! It could very well be that Nomura used this sword as inspiration for the Dream Sword in the Dive To The Heart! That's so badass! :D

I see similarities, but not enough to be intentional.

The similarities are pretty strong, though. Maybe Nomura unconsciously designed the sword based on a memory from The Black Cauldron film? Sometimes inspiration can make a person create something, and them not remember exactly where they got their inspiration from, ya know?

Yeah. That could be the case.

There is no denying that both swords are incredibly beautiful, with their gleaming blades and ornate hilts. However, the true mystery lies in their origins. Perhaps we will never know where the idea for the sword in Kingdom Hearts came from. But one thing is certain: the sword is an iconic symbol of power and mystery, and it continues to capture our imaginations even today. After doing research at Sword Encyclopedia, I found that both swords are based on a real sword known as Excalibur. While the sword in The Black Cauldron is more of a realistic representation, the sword in Kingdom Hearts is more stylized and unique. While this may be just a coincidence, I believe that the similarities between these two swords are more than just skin deep. There may be some connection between these two worlds that we don't yet understand.
