The 7, along with Donald and Goofy, almost lose hope until Ventus notices a black box where Xehanort was standing. Sora opens it, and inside is what he was looking for-the Key to Return Hearts. Sora decides to use this to save Roxas and Naminé, whom he knows are still hurting. Aqua then realizes that Castle Oblivion is still as it is despite Ventus' awakening, so she, Sora, Donald and Goofy decide to put Castle Oblvion on their agenda. Meanwhile, Yen Sid is look outside the window, concerned that something bad has happened. Xehanort bursts in and attacks Yen Sid. Although he fights back with his Star Seeker, to whom Mickey returned, Yen Sid is defeated by Xehanort, who leaves just as everyone else comes in. Mickey notices Yen Sid and runs over to him. In his final breath, Yen Sid tells Mickey that there is still hope to defeat Xehanort, and that may his heart be his guiding key. He collapses and fades away into ash, leaving Mickey in tears. Everyone else is speechless.
Having enough of Xehanort, Sora wants everyone to assemble an army from Traverse Town and Radiant Garden and get Kairi somewhere safe while he goes to Castle Oblvion to restore it, and then to Twilight Town to save Roxas and try to save Naminé. Before he leaves, Riku stops him and tells him about what he did during Roxas's year in the Organization. Sora is initially splintered by these facts, but Riku tells him that it was to "keep Roxas safe inside of you". Sora reluctantly accepts this, but not before heading back to Twilight Town with Aqua, Donald, and Goofy, still determined to make Roxas his own person. Riku wishes him luck and tells everyone to take Sora's suggestion and gather their forces. He, Ventus and Terra head to Traverse Town to get an army of Spirits along with Neku and his friends. Mickey heads back to Radiant Garden to nurture Kairi while also rallying up the Restoration Committee.
