KH3 being released in 2018? Pffft...AS IF

Recommended Posts

In one of his latest interviews, Nomura said that he's pretty "confident" about a 2018 release year for KH3. Well, guess what: I DON'T BELIEVE HIM. At least, not 100%. Here are 2 reasons why:

1) I'm on the team that believes KH3 will have 20 worlds (since he said KH3 will have more worlds than KH2). 20 = 7 lights + 13 darknesses. And if, again, IF this comes true, then let's count how many worlds we have so far (Confirmed worlds said by SE themselves or shown on screenshots, artworks, etc. I'm not going to consider probable/possible worlds here, like Frozen, for example):

1.1) Twilight Town;

1.2) Tangled (Rapunzel's world);

1.3) San Fransokyo (Big Hero 6 world);

1.4) Mount Olympus (Hercules world);

1.5) Toy Story world;

1.6) The Mysterious Tower or Symphony of Sorcery;

Do you guys see? Only 6 worlds out of the 20 ones have been revealed so far. And, I've read on this site that the next KH3 information/news will only come out at D23 Japan next year (which, actually, should happen THIS year). Even if he announces 1 world per month from D23 onward, there's no way he can show us all the 14 remaining worlds KH3 will have (like he said he would do: reveal all the worlds) before it launches (unless he reveals 2 worlds each month or something like that, but this is highly unlikely. He's never done that before and the chances are very slim he'll do that).

2) He is getting a little overconfident. I'm pretty sure Hajime Tabata and Nomura were also very confident they could release Final Fantasy XV and KH 2.8 FCP in September and December, respectively, and we all saw what happened, right? Who's to say this won't happen again? Delays happen all the time, don't they? Especially when SE is too afraid of the idea of FFXV competing with Persona 5 and then, what happens? Both games are delayed. And this delay affected 2.8's original release date, which was supposed to be December.

Well, this is it. I hope I'm 100% wrong, but, until the game launches, I won't trust Nomura 100%.

But he recently said there would be less worlds in KH3 than other titles, but they would be bigger and better. So, I don't think there will be 20 worlds. As for 2.8's delay, they pretty much confirmed that the game would've been ready in time but they delayed it because of XV. (XV was delayed because it wasn't ready, not because they didn't want to compete with Persona 5)

So, FFXV was delayed because it wasn't finished? SMH. And Mythril, the reason for all of this is not just because of FFXV, Persona 5 and 2.8's delay, but also, because of Tekken 7's release date, which was supposed to be Early 2017, and then, it got delayed to June.

2018 is a release window. That means it could be out any time in that year. Not just that, but he did not say it will have more worlds. He said it will have less worlds, but with more content than KH2. With that said, the idea of 20 worlds in KH3 is now dead since he said there will be less worlds in KH3. Now, I believe him and think he will follow through on his word. You could believe him or not, but if it wasn't going to be 2018 or if he wasn't sure it would be 2018, it would still have Now in Development.

Are we really going over this again? It'll come out when it comes out.

Quite frankly, we haven't seen that many worlds but that doesn't have to mean a thing either way. Even if there were 20 worlds, they can also reveal two or three at a time because a lot of worlds would not be surprising to appear. Radiant Garden and the Keyblade Graveyard are most likely going to appear for example so there's really no need to make a huge announcement for them as if no one ever expected those.

Then again, they also said in an earlier interview this year that they haven't even started on some of the worlds.

Additionally, what was said in an old interview does not necessarily apply to current plans. If I recall correctly, that interview stating that it'll have more worlds than KH2 is not exactly recent, so who's to say they didn't abandon those plans in favor of implementing fewer but vast worlds? We can't forget that the change in engine and also the general development in technology allows a different approach to KH now in terms of worlds and their size. One they may not have considered in the beginning. I wouldn't mind them scrapping worlds if they have no relevance to the overall plot and save them for sequels or maybe even a DLC if it works out better for the game itself. (Even if I'm not a fan of DLCs.)

And delays can always happen but just because it happened to other games does not mean it will repeat itself with KH3. And even if it does get delayed, I wouldn't mind as long as it's done, the story is complete and the models are consistent and not so awkward at times.

I mean, it's your choice what you make of it but there's no proof there will be 20 worlds just to fit a certain trope (which would be kinda idiotic if the game suffers just to make it 13+7) and neither is there any proof there will be a delay. And even if there were 20 worlds, they don't need to be the same size. Mysterious Tower could be a very short episode for example.

The game will hopefully be released when it's ready. Saying 2018 is vague enough to calculate a certain amount of delays due to problems but even if it isn't met there's nothing we can do about it. I don't even care if it gets delayed as long as it doesn't get postponed indefinitely and it's as complete as it can be in the end...

I don't think that Square-Enix would have announced a release year unless they were confident that they would be able to release Kingdom Hearts III in that year.  It was shortly after this announcement that Nomura said that we will see all of the worlds revealed before the game is released.  Therefore, I think that it is safe to assume that Nomura wouldn't have said that unless he was confident that all of the worlds could be revealed before the game releases in 2018.  Yes, past Square-Enix games have been delayed, but that doesn't mean that all of their games will be delayed.  And even if it is delayed, I don't care as long as they give me a good game.

As far as how many worlds there will be, we were told that Kingdom Hearts III is going to have less Disney worlds than Kingdom Hearts II.  Kingdom Hearts II had twelve Disney worlds.  Let's assume that Kingdom Hearts III has just one less Disney world.  That would mean that there would have to be nine original worlds in order for there to be twenty worlds total.  I doubt that there will be that many original worlds.  Kingdom Hearts has always had mostly Disney worlds and a few original worlds in each of its games.  Assuming that trend will continue in Kingdom Hearts III, it seems very unlikely to me that it will have more than fifteen worlds (I personally think that it will have around ten worlds, give or take a few).  Yes, at one time we were told that there would be more worlds in Kingdom Hearts III than there was in Kingdom Hearts II, but that interview was a long time ago, and plans can change.

I saw at least once in an interview that they've had a release date in mind for a while and that was months ago, and even back in 2015 one of the trailers had a calendar hinting at March 2018. I'll admit they haven't showed a whole lot of the game, but if Nomura is confident and doesn't obsess over detail, he may get it out on time. Toy Story was just announced and that world seemed finished when they showed it, so who knows where they are now.

Yes, FFXV was delayed because it wasn't ready for release. That is the same as not being finished. Tabata made a whole video on that.

And let's say for example that KH3 will release in March 2018. Why the hell would they worry about games that released that released 8-10 months prior to that? Such a thing is not a contributing factor. A game like Persona 5 was a bigger threat to NieR: Automata.

The thing here is that Nomura is confident because he is following his plan accordingly. Not neccesarily because we haven't seen much it means the release year they gave us is a lie or it's impossible. Only the actual developing team know the state of the game so there's no need of breaking our heads over it. It's not like they don't have stuff to show, the thing is that Nomura loves hiding his games in order to create expectation for it, so he doesn't give away details even if he has them. He even goes around announcing info like the BH6 world way before than stuff he already had like the Toy Story world (he declared BH6 was the last chosen world which means they had worked with Toy Story way before). So if they have announced 2018 then I believe in them, if it gets delayed in order to finish the game properly then it will be sad but worth it.

Wasn't the "less Disney world" a translation mistake? Anyway, like others have already said, 2018 it's a release window. I'm pretty sure it will be released between October and December, but I think people should really give Nomura a break. People complained when there was no release window and people are complaining now that there's one, it's frustratring.

Less DISNEY worlds. What part of that do people not understand?

Didn't some SE member told that they are only allowed to reveal the release date when the game's development is going to finish soon?

So, if we have got the release year, this means KH3 is at least at about 60/70% of completion..

Either way, no need to get feisty and there will not be twenty worlds. Nothing proves that there will be nor has Nomura stated anything saying there will be twenty worlds.

But there at least has to be close to twenty, right? Nomura is probably bringing back all the original world that are still able to exist (Daybreak Town is probably no more), as well as 8-10 Disney worlds.

8-10 sounds like a good range and likely. As for total worlds, it could be around fifteen for all we know. For KH worlds, I see Radiant Garden, Twilight Town, Keyblade Graveyard (which probably was Daybreak Town), Realm of Darkness, and the true Kingdom Hearts in KH3. The World That Never Was will only be seen in cutscenes, but I don't see it being a world we will actually visit. Castle Oblivion may be a cutscene world only too since the only thing Sora must do is give Ventus his heart back. After that, it will be off to Mysterious Tower to see Yen Sid.

Honestly, just the fact that we got "Coming 2018" in D23 Anaheim's Kingdom Hearts III trailer is enough to satisfy me until the next batch of news comes! The most amazing thing to take note of here is that we finally have a release year for the game, something that we could only speculate about for all these years! Now we finally have a concrete release window, and that's enough to make me happy, at least!

On the whole subject of worlds, Nomura said there'd be less Disney worlds, so if Kingdom Hearts II had 12 Disney worlds, then maybe Kingdom Hearts III will have 9 Disney worlds, like the first Kingdom Hearts, and the rest of the worlds could be original worlds, such as Twilight Town, Traverse Town, etc. And like some members here have said, some worlds can be added that aren't that big, like the 100 Acre Wood, for example! That world has always been a small, simple world, so I don't see what the problem would be!

Either way though, since Square has no more big budget projects on the horizon aside from KHIII and FFVII Remake, I think it's safe to assume that KHIII's development will be even smoother from here on out! I have faith in the game's 2018 release year! :)

Hopefully by D23 Japan next year, we'll have more info on where the game is at in development!

Well, you could count castle oblivion as your 7th world of light.  Once aqua gets back to ventus, she should turn the castle back into the land of departure, which is...bright.

not less than other titles, DDD only has eight worlds, there's no way KH3 will have less than that. Less than KH2 I believe is what was said

They said less DISNEY worlds. Disney being the key word here.

So let's be generous and say there are eleven Disney worlds... you think there are going to be NINE original worlds? You think Disney would want their IPs overshadowed in quantity like that? There are TEN original worlds in Kingdom Hearts' entire history, and that's including stuff like the Mirage Arena and the End of the World.

I never even said that. I'm simply quoting what the article said. Who's to say that we'll even have 20 worlds? With the depth they're aiming for with the new worlds, I doubt there will even be that many. And even with a difference of two, how the hell does nine overshadow 11? Plus, KH is owned by Disney, what overshadowing is there to worry about?

All i know is that I think its likely that whenever the game gets released it will either be on a 7th or a 13th. or seeing as next year is going to have in a way both in 2018 the game could release possibly on July 13th. I wouldnt put it past Nomura to try and pull something like that with the whole 7 Guardians and 13 darknesses thing.

Haha, I've thought the same thing! The ideal release would be July 13th! Cuz it's the thirteenth day of the seventh month! :3
