What´s inside the Black Box from MoM? We only know that the Master gave it to Luxu with the promise to never open it. When Luxu asked about what was inside it we only get to see Luxu´s “But why?” reaction to the secret inside it and the MoM “You´ll see” answer.

But how can you see what´s inside a box you are not supposed to open. Well if you think about it, it´s pretty simple how. Somebody else will. “But why?” and who? Well… “You´ll see”.

Remember the first scene in 0.2 Birth by Sleep –A fragmentary passage–? Keep it in mind.

 

The Box

We know Nomura said in an interview that the box will be appearing in KH3 and that somebody will be looking for it. At that time we didn´t know who was actually looking for it. With the Orchestra Trailer we now know that Maleficent is that somebody.

A good question can be about how Maleficent knew about the Black Box. Well, she also did know about the Book of Prophecies. We can only assume that Master Xehanort told her about it back in BbS. Knowing about who told Maleficent about the box is not actually an important thing for this theory, the important thing about it is knowing why would she be looking for it and what would the box does after being open. The first question is simple, rule the worlds like she said in coded but as for the second question, well… remember the final scene of KHχ? We saw the present day Maleficent showing up in an era she does not belong to. How did she got in there? Well… Nomura once said that KHχ and KH3 were being written at the same time so there´s a direct connection to them both. Maleficent appear in the KHχ because she found the box in KH3. What´s inside the Black Box? I believe that the box has a tool or a machine that allow you to go back in time, a teleporter perhaps. A machine that allows you to travel to time and also lets you to move things through it. Remember MoM telling Luxu “You´ll see”, he was not to open the box because in the future Maleficent will be the one to open it, go back in time and… “And the only real Kingdom Hearts was swallowed by the darkness, never to surface again”. Maleficent transport the real Kingdom Hearts to the future, maybe close to the final battle between Sora and Xehanort. That´s why nobody has seen the real Kingdom Hearts, because it traveled through time and that´s also why MoM gave task to Ava to make the Dandelions, so the worlds can move on after Kingdom Hearts disappear. Remember the first scene of in 0.2 Birth by Sleep –A fragmentary passage–? That´s where Luxu saw what was inside the box. Kingdom Hearts fallen to the darkness and being transported to the future.

 

MoM´s Plan

Remember that in KHχBC MoM in many occasions said that he may disappear one day? Well he did know what was inside the box. He also traveled to the current era alongside with the Kingdom Hearts. MoM is a smart man, just like Xehanort is. We need to assume that Nomura will not make a whole game placed in the first Keyblade War to just serve the KH3 story. Of course not, that game will also prepare us for KH4 with the MoM being the main villain.

We know that Maleficent has been trick from Master Xehanort when she was collecting the 7 Princesses of Hearts. I believe that with the Black Box thing will be the same. But, the one that were pulling the strings was and always have been MoM. With the Gazing Eye he saw everything that have happened through the Xehanort Saga and will make his return in KH4.

This theory may not be 100% correct as for what will actually happen in the game but I believe this theory have some truth as for where the story is going. I hope you enjoy it and I would like to see your comments.

First, welcome to the site! Hope you can have fun here!

Now, about your theory. I thing it's a long shot there, when it comes to time travel in the KH series the rules are pretty much established (becoming just a heart, traveling only to places with your own versions).

I think it's really to have a time machine on the Box. In my opinion Maleficent got her hands on one of the Books and I was able to go to Enchanted Dominion in the ending of X. When it comes to what is inside the Box, I believe it is darkness itself inside it.

Think with me, X/Union X tells the story of the Keyblade War, a time that there is no darkness in the world (all the worlds we play are illusions created by the Book, including the Heartless). So I think that when the War happened, Luxu opened the Box and darkness got inside Kingdom Hearts, causing the separation of all words and spreading darkness to all (like the tail Kairi's grandmother tells).

Everything is a long shot now, Union X has a lot of story and answers to give us. We just have to wait now.

And while the theory is pretty good, Maleficent can't really go back in time unless there's a version of herself waiting in that precise moment when Kingdom Hearts was swallowed by darkness, and since she's not around for that time, there's no way she can go that far back. The most she could do is perhaps see a simulation of what happened inside the Book Of Prophecies, ya know? But yes, thanks to the Orchestra trailer, we know that Maleficent wants to get her hands on the Master Of Masters's box! Just what exactly is inside that box, I don't know, but I don't think it's just darkness. That'd be way too simple, so I think that there's something else inside there...

 

As for the Master Of Masters appearing again for the next saga, I could definitely get behind that!
