So...About Drive Forms and Keyblade Transformations.

Recommended Posts

With the new trailer we could see how some of things will work. What caught my attention and left me wondering how it will work are both Keyblade Transformation and Drive Forms.

Keyblade Transformations will work like Reaction Commands on both BbS and 0.2 (first picture is the Reaction Command and the third it shows its activation). That makes sense for me, it's simple to activate and maybe each keyblade will have a different way to activate it's transformation.

But what really got me wondering is how Drive Forms will work now. Later in the trailer we can see three Reaction Commands on the Command Menu: Blizzaza, Firaza and the Second Form (second picture). When activated, the Reaction Commands turns into special attacks like Sonic Blade and Ars Arcanum. Another thing is that it means that the Focus cauge will be exclusive to Focus attacks and also, Drive Forms won't need a gauge like in KH2, but it also means that they can be activated during any battle (making the game too easy maybe?).

So, what you guys think about this? It's a great change when compared to KH2 that we needed t think how to use our Drives without wasting it. Also, what do you think the Link command means???

So yeah, I think the Drive Forms are more like command styles now like in 0.2 . Keyblade transformation works the same maybe :)

And I think Link might be the new Limit? For example there was this scene where Sora and Goofy used this combination.

Link Command is most likely the new "Limit" commands where you team up with party members to do combined attacks.

Or it could be the new means of summons. That's the only conventional game play command style that has yet to be revealed.

Drive Forms are my biggest question right now, if they are actually able to be activated at any battle and with that much ease without cool-down, I think that could make the game a bit easy. But who knows. All i'm hoping for is not another Osaka Effect and hoping Sora doesn't play like Aqua in 0.2 (Only 3-hit combo with everything else being used from the situational commands)

Nah, that doesn't match up with what they've been talking about so far. "Link Attacks" this, "Link Commands" that, it makes more sense that it's the stuff we've seen with Mickey and Aqua and with Sora and Goofy in this trailer so far. Besides, I'm pretty sure they're going to be a bit more explicit with something like Summons, we'll probably get the secondary command menu like in KH2 where you can reach the Summon command through there. But maybe I'm wrong and they'll make it work like the D-Link system and that's what the "Link" is supposed to stand for. We'll have to wait and see, hopefully the next trailer can show some of that off.

It seems that Drive Forms are being grouped with situation commands. What is interesting to note though, is "Counter Shield" is the name associated with Guard Form in this trailer. It's kind of odd to me that it's not just called Guard Form when Second Form is just that. That leads me to believe that Drive Forms might possibly have various versions and which version you use is determined by the Keyblade that is equipped, I dunno something interesting to think about.

I really do hope that there is a cooldown for situation commands though, because with how frequent they seem to be available it makes me worry about how much they're going to focus on Sora's base abilities. KHI and KHII had the most customization as far as adjusting your basic combos/abilities, I really hope that KHIII returns to having abilities like that, because I would absolutely hate having the same unchanging 4-hit combo outside of using Style Changes or Situation Commands.

The attack with Mickey and Aqua were activated via Situation Commads; so, maybe, the attack with Sora and Goofy works the same way. As for "Link", it's probably a new way of summoning, as Alpha Baymax states.

I think that the key thing here is that combat will work in a variety of different ways, and odds are that Drive Forms will be timed, or maybe you'll have a limited number of attacks to perform while in said form! I'm sure that as the game comes closer to release, we'll get a clearer look into how each gameplay mechanic works! Overall, I expect it to be something that is easy to use but takes time to master, ya know? I'm sure that with the game's advanced enemy AI, having all these overpowered moves will still make the game challenging, as Heartless are supposed to be more intelligent beings this time around!

Looking at the trailer we can assume it will work like situation commands, with its duration decreasing over time. What worries me is IF they can be used like that, it means we can activate them anytime? Wouldn't it be too easy? Like, we can play the whole game with them activated!

But like you said, we need more info on them, so we just have to wait...

Also, I'd like them to have a leveling system. As you level up, you gain more abilities and stuff. Instead of having everything handled to us like in KH2.

You still level up in KH2, though. Hell, I to grind my Limit Form just to get a basic Dodge Roll.

Yes, I know. But in KH2 you level to get his chance jump, dodge roll and stuff. What I mean is it would be cool to level up and gain more abilities for attacking and stuff, instead of getting all abilities right away. It would make the drive forms more customizable.

Hmm, well, maybe it'll be that the options are presented to you, and then you choose which form of combat to deal damage with? That could be a likely scenario, as how one would go for magic or stick with basic melee or limit attacks. It could work like that! But yes, I'm sure that we'll get more details next month, hopefully!

Oh yeah, I'm sure that we'll have to earn our abilities the way we did in Kingdom Hearts I and II! As we level up, we'll gain more powerful abilities to add to our repertoire! :D
