Will you "jump ship" after KH3?

Recommended Posts

For me? Well, it depends on a lot of topics:

1) What the new characters will look like (appearance/personality-speaking);

2) If the next saga's villain/villainess is just as dangerous and cunning as Xehanort;

3) The next saga's main theme/plot;

AND LAST, BUT NOT LEAST (AKA:The most important aspect):

4) How long the time gap between KH3's and KH4'S release date will be.

With that last thing said, many of you might be thinking right now: "Don't be impatient. These things take time". Yes, I'm clearly aware of that. I try my best to be as much patient as I can be, believe me. But, the real point here is: "Nobody, and I'll say it again, NOBODY has infinite patience". Patience is good, sure, but, it has its limits. I don't want to wait another 10 years for a numbered title again, ever. However, this might not be the case. We'll probably have to wait another 10 years (again). Why, you ask? It's simple.

Many members of the KH community are asking Nomura for a full remake of Days and Re: Coded (as playable games, of course). And Nomura will probably consider these requests and might actually remake one (or both, depending on the demand) of them. Besides, I remember very clearly that I read an interview in this site (Sorry, can't remember which interview was, though) that he also said that after KH3, he would like to tell the "full story" of 0.2 (What he means by "full story", I have no idea, because, 0.2 seemed pretty good and complete, despite how short it is). Not only that, but he's also in charge of Final Fantasy VII Remake (Worth reminding that he announced this title just a few months after he abandoned Final Fantasy XV. LOL, can you guys imagine if Nomura hadn't stepped down from FFXV's development? He would be in charge of 3 big titles and FFXV wouldn't have been released yet. It still would be in "Now in development" stage). And, please, everybody, let's be 100% honest here: between KH3 and FFVIIR, which title do you think he will give more attention? Seriously, let's say the cold and cruel truth here: of course he will give more attention to FFVIIR. Doubtless. It's the most iconic game of the franchise and Square Enix's cashing cow. Oh, and let's not forget that, while he remakes Days and Re: Coded, he'll still be in charge of directing the "episodes" of FFVIIR, so the remake of the KH titles will probably be delayed.

Guys, from the bottom of my heart: I don't want to wait another 10 years for a numbered KH title/game. This is a complete disrespect to the consumer and the fans. And this situation gets a lot worse when Square Enix makes us wait 15 months for KH3 news, and, when the time comes, they don't keep their promise. Not to mention that, when they show us a trailer, it's one which has stuff we've already seen in a past event, but with only 1 or 2 new scenes/shots (You know, the D23 Expo Japan 2015, which was pretty much the same trailer from E3 of the same year, with just 1 or 2 new stuff and that's it). Oh, yeah, let's not forget of the lovely and sweet private trailers that were only shown to people who attented a special event (the KH3 trailer at 2.5 HD Remix launch event back in 2014, and, of course, the private trailer at D23 Japan back in 2015).

If Square Enix makes us wait more 10 years between KH3 and KH4, only to do all these bullshits again, I can assure you: I will give up/quit/"jump the ship" after KH3, for sure. Those KH days and waiting days will all be behind me (temporarily or permanently).

Anyway, what about you guys? What are your opinions on this thread?

No way will I quit this series. I will continue to play it for a long time. And I don't think we'll be waiting 10 years after KH3 for KH4.

As for Days and Re: Coded, it's best that they take an inexpensive path for those remakes. They've already got most of the cutscenes for both, so they just need to create gameplay and if necessary, more cutscenes. It'll take too long to make everything from scratch.

As for characters and plot, I don't really mind what they do.

Will I give up the saga ? I don't think so. But, honestly, I'd rather see the Kingdom Hearts serie end with a, let's hope marvelous Kingdom Hearts III than witness the serie sink into mediocrity.

But, If Kingdom Hearts continues, if it's still good. I will be there.

Regarding the remakes, I'd like to see a 358/2 Days remake, but it's not necessary. It would be great if they improve the gameplay, but that's really all they can do. And Re:Coded doesn't need a remake, it's good on its own.

The full story of 0.2 ? Maybe what happened outside the realm of darkness within the 10 years between Birth By Sleep and the first Kingdom Hearts, if something occured. Or, the full ten years of Aqua's wondering into the realm of darkness ? What else could be linked to 0.2 which hasn't be told yet ?

Kingdom Hearts III is a big project, I don't even expect it to release next year, it's not like I'm not looking to play it, I am, that is because I don't want to see it release to quickly. (Logic done right, eh) I know I will be merciless on Kingdom Hearts III, any little flaw will piss me off. Despites a bit of camera issues on 0.2 (on the last boss) I'm mostly reassured for Kingdom Hearts III. (But I hope you WON'T be able to do your basic attack combos while swinging your Keyblade onto the nothing) I want Kingdom Hearts III to be one I will ever have to play. That's a big ask, but it's true. If there is any videogames series I have major expectation for it's Kingdom Hearts. I want the developers to polish the game as much as they can. All of this, only to say ; with Kingdom Hearts I can be patient. It's been a while since we all wait Kingdom Hearts III, and when it will come out, I will be ready to wait if there is something after.

But, I agree, a tiny bit much of news for Kingdom Hearts III would be welcome. Even if I don't really want any more spoilers regarding the worlds or the powers.

...As long as Kingdom Hearts III ends up like this mess that is Final Fantasy XV, I can only be positive !

That's the plan. I don't like the direction the series is going in, so I'll play III to finish off the saga and just call it there. It kind of sucks since I've been playing it since the very first game came out, but the series has changed a lot since then and I'm not fond of many of those changes.

I haven't been THAT interested in the saga since a long time ago. Sure, I still like it, but not as much as before.

I will keep an eye on the series because I am interested in the story after the Xehanort saga. I just hope it doesn't take a long time.

No never!!! I'm a huge Kingdom Hearts fan since the beginning of the first game and I will continue on playing the Kingdom Hearts series as long as I live! Whether they're main games or side-stories, but I will play ALL of them because I love the KH lore so much.

Regardless if KH3 is a masterpiece or a pile of poop, I will not be purchasing the series afterwards. I'm kinda quitting gaming in general, but the KH series is playing a BIG part in that decision. I'm just tired of gaming companies showing me a really cool trailer, and then saying "See you in 3,4, maybe even 5 years!". Seriously, why even show me?

I understand the KH series perfectly, and I love the lore, but it is still a hot mess. KH3 is going to turn so many people off. Though you'll be scratching your head through some parts, I think you can enjoy KH2's story without knowledge of KH1 or CoM. I cannot say the same for KH3.

I'll play KH1 and KH2 forever, but I'm done with the series.

i'm tempted to. i'd want them to take a few good years between the release of KH3 and KH4 so we can have some downtime. it'll help the series to avoid fatigue

(inb4 too late)

if KH3 turns out to be more of DDD then yea i'll probably drop the series from my radar. i haven't really enjoyed any of the games released post-KH2 except for BBS, and even then it's not like i love that game or anything. it's just serviceable.

i'll always at least look back on the original trilogy fondly though. KH1, CoM and KH2 were a solid trilogy and i'll definitely go back to replay them from time to time. everything after that has just been disappointing.

I will most likely NEVER quit this series only because I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS GAME FOR TOO LONG DAMNIT. I've already wasted my life on this series enough as it is so no way i'm quitting after all the waiting Square has put me (and others) through. Although i do understand why people would leave the series, i can see people quitting because they don't want to wait even longer for KH4 than with KH3 (lets hope that doesn't happen). But within saying that this topic kinda worries me. i'm seeing lot's of fans quit the series for this exact same reason and others because they felt like KH3 took too long and this kinda worries me for the sake of the Future of the KH series. Square needs fans to continue a series after all and if stuff like this continues it's probably gonna make some people run for it. This isn't the only thing that's making people quit i'm seeing, mostly just the people who didn't like 0.2 or thought the small bits of lore in 0.2 was really stupid and ruined the Blank Points cutscene in BBS and a couple other small things but that's true for everyone. Not everyone is gonna like it the same as others after all but even so this stuff worries me. Although i do hope this series ends at least before i die because i don't wanna DIE when the series is still continuing and make it impossible for me to see the end!!!

you could always come back once 10 games come out so that way you won't have to wait for the games for a long time. Although it does depend if those games are good so yeah.

No, I do not intend to jump ship on this wonderful series anytime soon! I'll probably be a Kingdom Hearts fan till the day I die, ya know?

I've grown up with this series, it's been a part of my life for 11 years! I've loved every game, I've loved the story and all its twists and turns, and I've loved every single aspect of the series, and it's all led up to the eventual masterpiece known as Kingdom Hearts III! I'm confident we won't have to wait much longer for the game, though I am a patient man! But yes, I think we'll finally witness the finale to the Xehanort Saga sooner rather than later, and after it all ends, I'm excited to see which direction the series will take, ya know? And I don't think there'll be too much of a wait for Kingdom Hearts IV, either! I'm sure the wait for KHIV won't be as long as for III's, ya know?

In the end, I will always follow this series to the very end, and I'm excited for the ride that awaits me! :3

When Kingdom Hearts III comes out and I finally play and beat it, I'll feel a rewarding sense of accomplishment, because I'll have seen the Xehanort Saga through to the end, and it'll be emotional! :')

More likely than not, the only thing that would make me "Jump ship" is if the next five or so KH's waver amongst pricey systems: I'm been keeping up with KH since roughly 2009, through all the ups and downs, played (with one exception) each game to completion, read as much of the manga's as I could...

The series got me through some tough times, as well.

I'm not the type to put effort into a series, unless it just is really special to me: I'll probably slow down on playing the games as I get older, but I'd still buy any new one's that came, or new novels they put out.

Even with it's ups, downs, system jumps, and random "what the hell?!" 's (DDD's time travel is still a slight head scratcher), the series means a lot to me, and the lack of trailers hasn't ever really upset me, anyway. As for the wait for KH 3 or future games, that just leaves me time to get the systems for them.

Not going to blame anyone who does leave the series, though: A DAYs remake would probably rub a lot of people the wrong way for not being 100% new material, and KH 4 is possibly going to reboot the franchise anyway, so that would drive people off from it.

Long story short, I've stuck with this mess up til now, might as well stick around another five or ten years.

The wait isn't my issue with the series.

For me, it's the Disney content that they'll be using, really think about it. If Kingdom Hearts III hypothetically used the following properties...

  • Treasure Planet
  • Atlantis
  • The Princess and the Frog
  • Wreck-It Ralph
  • Frozen
  • Moana

Then there'd not really be much point in getting excited for a Kingdom Hearts 4. Sure, it can be argued that "you can use Pixar properties", but there just wouldn't be as much content there in terms of Disney worlds. And adding Marvel or Lucasfilm properties isn't really going to feel as conventionally Kingdom Hearts as Walt Disney Animation Studios properties.

Nope, never will. Kingdom Hearts will forever be my favorite series, but I don't play each game exclusively. If there's a large time gap between KH3 and the next installment, then it's fine by me. Personally, the wait or "lack of information" never bothered me in the slightest. There will always be another game to play to pass the time (currently engrossed in Persona 5). I say give the series a breather after KH3. By doing so, gamers might focus their attention on another new series in the same way that people discovered and fell in love with Kingdom Hearts back during the first installment. No one will forget about Kingdom Hearts, but rather be more excited for its return whenever it happens.

I don't think I would jump ship from the series after KH III, even if it takes a different approach and we have an entirely new cast of characters.  I will admit that I'm not as personally invested in the series as I used to be (probably because of the lengthy delay between major title releases), but I still enjoy the games and I love the characters.  I'm sort of at a point where it's exciting to get a new KH game, but it's not the end of the world for me if I don't.  I figure that I'll just enjoy them as they come, but I don't anticipate any new game from the series anymore as I used to, so I won't really be bothered if it takes 10+ years for a game to release.  It'll just be fun to play at the time. : )
