A few years ago I finished playing KH 1.5 as part of a bet I made with a friend. My friend was a huge KH fan and mentioned how excited he was for it and how great it was many times, spawning arguments between us both. Finally we decided that the only way to settle the score was for me to actually play the game, start to finish with an open mind, and find out if the game really was garbage.

Turns out I was right! At least, my anticipation of how much I would hate the game was. I played through both games on 1.5 and even watched the cutscene marathon, and although I found parts of the GBA remake more enjoyable than the original, I still found both the games to be subpar. I also made a video on youtube (https://youtu.be/YAZbbHpJ8DI) that was a cut down version of the entire final boss fight, which originally took me around 3 hours. It's garnered some hate from KH fans.

The point of this thread however is not to take a dump on your game. I just want to know: when you see a guy like me that thinks KH is deplorable, do you assume I just have no taste in videogames? Do you hate me? Or do you think there's merit to not liking some or certain aspects of the game? I've not seen such a reaction from any other game I've hated and that's bizarre.

You have every right to not like a game regardless of everyone else's opinion about it

It's just the KH fandom is so butthurt and full of themselves to the point that they get offended by the slightest amount of criticism a KH game get or it's director Nomura receives

I had dozens of people here who told me to leave the site just because I said I don't like Birth by Sleep

And I fell out of the series two years ago. There are much much better RPGs out there that took the concept KH had and did it thousand times better without the convoluted bullshit

He has every right too, but he as right to do it, as long as he has criticism. The video just shows him acting in a very negative overtone. No offense to op, but he pretty much acted like nothing in the world could please him.

I do agree that op can hate it, but there's this slight overtone of negativity in his videos.

So what? His video wasn't a review,it was from a livestream and reactions from that can be raw

Did he say something like you guys suck for liking it?No?Then he did nothing wrong as far as I can tell

I had lots of my favorite games being disliked by dozens of people as someone who plays Pokemon and Shin Megami Tensei yet I don't let that bother me as long as the one hating the game isn't insulting me on a personal level

It's a video game,Kingdom Hearts as a brand won't get destroyed if one person didn't like it.And I've seen much much worse hate on the series than this and that's coming from me who bitch about KH's plot and characters all the darn time

I know, but his reactions were more like he wanted to do something else. It just had this more ot "ughhhh, why am I being forced to play this game" than anything else.

What do you mean by as long as he has criticism? Even if he doesn't he can still say whatever he wants. Obviously the video is going to have a negative overtone since he is criticising the game.

He is allowed to do that, but he needs to have it be constructive. All he has said was that "this is bad, that's bad, this is bad, that's also bad".

I'm sorry, but no one is going to take you seriously streaming if you are just going to be a negative person.

For a game like this there is no point in being constructive. Tetsuya Nomura is not listening to him and saying 'yes I'll improve that'. Also, there is no way to criticise anything and not be 'negative'.

Here's more of what I have to say after reading some comments on here. Yes, he has the right to react how ever way he does to the game. He also has the right to then post those live reactions to youtube. He chose to do that.

Now, whenever a person shows overt disgust over a certain thing and posts it for everyone to see, and that certain thing has a fan following, of course that person is going to get negativity. What do you think the fans are going to see the video as, a comedic video? From the start of this video, it isn't obvious in any way that it's targeted to kh fans for comedy, and that's cause it isn't.

Any time disgust over a thing akin to this video is posted on youtube, fans of that thing are going to see it as a lack of understanding on the uploader's part, over how anyone could like the thing. Something along the lines of "how does anyone like this kind of crap." It doesn't matter if it's not explicitly stated, that's what a video like this translates to, that's how it's going to look like.

So if you post a video like this, expecting the fanbase to be A-Okay with it, you're out of your mind. This isn't just the Kh fanbase, this would happen with any fanbase.

Yes, but if he only focuses on the negative parts, its less of crtisism and more nit picking.

ok ok let us be honest here for a second with ourselves

And I wanna try really badly not to be rude

Regardless if the criticism was constructive or not,you guys never gave anyone a chance the moment they say any negative thing about Kingdom Hearts

I remember posting the video of Birth by Sleep The turning point here and people before watching 10 minutes of it lambasted it as "wa wa wa he's too negative he just came to hate on the series" even if in the video I linked back then the guy WAS A KH FAN WHO SPEEDRUN KH GAMES.

You guys can't take anything negative towards Kingdom Hearts, plain and simple.

Constructive or not you'll shun it down the moment it surfaces and the same goes for the series's director Tetsuya Nomura who I swear this fanbase puts him on the same level as God or something

I would've believed your words about "constructive criticism" if you or anyone on this site ever actually allowed criticism towards the series to be passed anyway when pitchforks are risen on almost every thread I made and some had people telling me to get out of here

What I'm trying to say is:Learn to be open and accepting towards criticism even if it's towards your most favorite franchise of all time

I can see people not liking the series, that's completely fine and good on you for sticking with your guns. It is a hard concept to pull off, Disney + Square Enix. Truth be told, most people assumed that the concept would be garbage until the first game came out and defied all expectations.

Did it though? ;)

But in all seriousness, I think the biggest problem with the story is that Square Enix took two franchises, molded them together, and then took their own franchise and overshadowed the other one. They didn't make the story have enough to do with Disney so it's just basically a Final Fantasy game guest starring Disney characters, which was disappointing. I wish they had made a real attempt at mashing up the two worlds.

Consider how you act in the video It's no surprise the hate, you should be careful how you say the things, you act a bit unprofessional imo,

Not a professional. Why should I be careful about what I say, to appease a mass audience that can't handle it?

No offense to op, but he pretty much acted like nothing in the world could please him.

I can see why you would think that, but 80 hours in and being fed up with the game, all I wanted was a satisfying boss fight and I got the most gimmicky one ever. The possessed Riku fight was far more satisfying, but that wasn't part of the video. I posted it as an example of everything I hate about the game because it hits on almost all of it. There are nice things about the game but few of them contribute to actually making the game fun.

I can take criticism, what I won't stand for is nit picking. I have saw pretty almost no where where he said "this have some good points, I can understand how some people like it." That is one of my issues with reviewers, they make trivial issues bigger than they should be and say "this game is an unplayable mess because of one thing."

This is not a review, this is simply a montage that highlights specifically what I hate about the game. Also, I don't get why people like it, and except for the friend I started the bet with, I've heard few arguments for why it is (but even he admits that KH1 is not good compared to others in the series).

I know, but his reactions were more like he wanted to do something else. It just had this more ot "ughhhh, why am I being forced to play this game" than anything else.

Correct, lol.

So if you post a video like this, expecting the fanbase to be A-Okay with it, you're out of your mind. This isn't just the Kh fanbase, this would happen with any fanbase.

The problem is that I'm not personally attacking anyone, I'm just commenting on something a community likes, and unlike most of the people in this thread, everyone who wanted to react to it took it personally and downvoted/whined in the comments. That was an indication to me that the KH community could be mostly these people, but this thread has luckily proved me wrong.

Edit: Also, to clear one thing up, I don't actually care that KH fans dislike it. The point of this thread was to find out if the KH community were all like the ones who dislike the video. That said, if you have an open mind, I hope that you would find it funny because even if it's taking a dump on a game you like, I can still find fans finding humor in it.

But eh, what do I know?

Imagine a girl reacting to an anime series. During an important scene she says "blah blah blah, who cares.” She goes on to say things she hates about the show and makes a couple jokes about it, all with a frustrated and disgusted tone and demeanor. She then uploads the video and puts on the description “(this) anime sucks.” The girl did not "personally attack” anybody.

A bunch of fans of that anime then comment negative things on the girl’s video, ranging in variety from “firetruck you” to paragraphs showing disgust towards the girl’s actions in the video. They also down vote the video.

If the girl is bothered by those comments and dislikes, that’s on her. Does she really expect most fans to like the video, to say nice comments, to not whine? She straight up shat on something those people are really into. Was she really expecting likes and “I can see why you hate it” from fans after a video like that?

Well, the girl didn’t go up to individual fans and tell them “firetruck you” or “your taste sucks,” so the fans shouldn’t be disliking and saying "firetruck you" on her comments right? No, because the girl shat on something those fans hold dear, made fun of it, spat negativity and jokes towards it. She didn’t need to personally say “your taste sucks” to the fans because her video already did that, even if it was never stated explicitly. Why would it be weird for fans to write “firetruck you” after a video like that.

It’d be naive for that girl to straight up assume that the fans who did not find the video funny, disliked the video, or commented negatively were simply close minded people. After that kind of video, how could those fans be open to the girl’s views. Also, fresh after watching a video like that, emotions might be uncontrollably angry for fans, and they might impulsively dislike or write a “firetruck you.”

Just cause you didn’t personally attack those kh fans, doesn’t mean it was wrong or strange for them to dislike your video and say “firetruck you,” and just because the fans did that, it doesn’t automatically mean they're closed minded, it might just be a reflection of their emotions after watching your video.

edit: those "firetrucks" are kh13's censored f-bombs

I guess every time I dislike something and say so openly, I should expect an onslaught of hatred, as though that hatred is going to accomplish anything but shout down the opinion of the person it's targeting, which appears to be the goal of some of the KH community who have seen this video.

I don't care if people dislike my video, but none of the people that have said anything constructive. It's just obvious triggered behavior from people who didn't like that I don't like their game, not that the points were invalid. It seems like the vast majority of people who have reacted to it did so because I simply don't like their game. I came here to make this thread to look into that, and like I said, plenty of people here don't act that way.

Also, having something you like shat on by someone else is not a free moral pass to just get mad about it, because that anger is just self-serving. You're not achieving anything by flaming a guy that doesn't like your stuff, you're just showing that you're insecure about it and that different beliefs make you upset.

Well yea you could classify it as triggered behavior, but it's not because of disagreement, it's your video. It's not cause they didn't like that you don't like their game, it's cause of the way you handled your own opinion.

And flaming a guy that doesn't like your stuff is most definitely going to affect that guy, no matter how many times he denies it. Also you being angry doesn't automatically mean different beliefs make you upset. It's absolutely fine to get angry at someone over the internet because they shat on your tastes in such a way your video demonstrated.

Let the man have his opinion. Not everyone has to be a ProJared when it comes to video game reviews. If I hate something, I'll be blunt about it. I hate Final Fantasy XIII, I can't really put a funny spin on it because I hate it so much.

I can take criticism, what I won't stand for is nit picking. I have saw pretty almost no where where he said "this have some good points, I can understand how some people like it." That is one of my issues with reviewers, they make trivial issues bigger than they should be and say "this game is an unplayable mess because of one thing."

Honestly what do you define as a nitpick or as a criticism?

And I want you right now to tell me at least ONE bad thing about KH

One issue with it's plot in particular or gameplay

The man doesn't need to be an official reviewer to give his opinion

HE NEVER SAID HIS VIDEO WAS A REVIEW EVEN,IT'S JUST AN OPINION FOR GOD'S SAKE

Kingdom Hearts isn't perfect.Deal with it.Deal with the fact that maybe....just maybe....people have the right to not like it

So,what you're saying is:You can't criticize Kingdom Hearts on a KH site

You guys couldn't be satisfied with just saying:I disagree with you but it's your opinion and that's fine

You guys are such a welcoming community.

Don't pull the "it'll happen in any community" bullshit.Cuz that just shows that the community are a bunch of overly sensitive fanboys who're ready to attack review sites and random people for not liking their games

No wonder the series gets more convoluted and keep making the same mistakes if all Nomura hears is how perfect and "Flawless" cuz most of the deillusionals in the fandom can't just bear to see an opposing opinion and would try their damnest to shut it down before the people who made the games see it

Uhh... no. You're completely missing the point here. I didn't see anyone bashing the OP here, for making the thread. Actually most people here were understanding.

Criticism is fine, of course. But the video is not much criticsm, which is not surprising since he had zero motivation to play the game. Personally I don't get why he even made the video, but that's none of my business. People can do what they want. But when you make a video where you're hating on a game, then what do you expect? Sure people could have made points, telling him why they do like the game. But he didn't do that either... so yeah.

I don't get where this "no one is allowed to dislike KH" is coming from. No one has said that. xD

I agree with him, after KH2 this series just fell off for me. It doesn't feel the same as it did when I was a child. 0.2's gameplay was good though and I like Days' story, but everything else is just.........
