Note my images!

I'm a bit of a Assasin's Creed lore fan and I paid 10 euros for the book xD

SPOILER FREE: The only spoilers here is what the plot is about and what was said on the back of the book!

What I want to say here is that I really enjoyed reading the book, it was really fun and the book is very handy for new comers and it was different than what I was expected.

I expected the book to be really shitty and I wasn't really fan of Oliver Bowdens book but when I heard there was a new writter I gave it a try and loved it.

The book follows Owen (Owen means young warrior btw) he is 15 years old and his father died in prison for a crime he didn't commit says Owen.

Owen wants to find out what happened that day when his father commited the crime and hears about the Animus created by Abstergo Industry (Animus means male/female I believe) The Animus is a machine that let's you expierence your ancestors memories. Our DNA has the memory's from our ancestors like a archive locked up into our DNA. The Animus decodes the DNA and makes a simulation around it. If your grandfather was a knight and was looking around in a castle the Animus will reconstruct those memory's and you see him walk around exactly like he did. The user looks through his eyes and can feel the weight of the armor like you are there THAT IS SO COOL!

But there are limitations to the Animus more in the book than in the games. Like in the game and book you can't change the past it is a virtuel reality simulation created by the Animus from your DNA so you can't just walk around doing what you want!

The simulation can fall apart if you do things that your ancestor didn't do counts more in the book than in the game.

The ancestor CANNOT DIE untill he/she has sex with someone and gets pregnant or made pregnant

If your ancesor has sex and gets pregnant or makes someone pregnant the DNA will be moved to the baby (look I am not the best explainer just read the book it makes more sense)

When Owen realises this he doesn't want to get involved with the Animus but the curiosity is so great I mean RELIVING YOUR ANCESTORS MEMORY'S I WOULD JUMP RIGHT IN!

Owen comes in contact which the fans all know. The Piece Of Eden, the legendary Tridant (NOTE: I come back to this later)

And soon he gets in danger and not only him but a group of other teenagers like him all got in contact with the same Piece Of Eden.

From that point on we have multiple protagonists in the present day and in the past.

It clearly shows that the writer knows alot about what happened in 1863 Draft Riots in New York City and puts the most details in it and fight scenes but the Modern Day characters try to influence the past and get effected by it in the future and it starts messing with there heads.

Things I like:

  • Modern Day: It was really really well done and I am more invested into the Modern Day characters than in the past characters and I really like the action scenes in it and I am really surprised how good it was.
  • New comers: If you are new and want to know more about the universe read the book.
  • Exposition: It is really well done.
  • New lore and different take on the Animus: not gonna spoiler it
  • Interesting way at linking the future and past
  • A few easter eggs for fans
  • Fight scenes were cool
  • Character interaction in the past, between Owen and his friends and the ending
  • Game crossover
  • Look up the name meanings please they are really well choicen for the characters
  • Funny moments
  • The book is written in third person not first person like AC Forsaken: ''I grabbed the chair while I looked at him with my eyes. I saw the fear'' I really hate the I damned.
  • Is still mature for it's age rating
  • I WANT MY SEQUEL!

Things I didn't like:

  • Trident Of Eden: I never liked the idea of the trident I never did! while the Trident is way better than I expected I don't see the point of the Trident in a world with the Apples of Eden and in my perspective the Apple is just way better. The Trident exists out of three pieces and each has it own power: Faith, devotion and the last one inspires fear... This can easily be covered by a Apple of Eden and the Apple can great hallucinations and more and can easily be better moved around than a big Trident.
  • Pieces Of Eden: while everything else has been covered nicely under 300 pages or more the POE isn't that well explained for new comers: where did it come from, how did it get made, is it magic? this will be answered MAYBE in the sequel which comes out this December in America I don't know about EU.
  • Eagle Vision: Eagle Vision is a special ability that some humans have which isn't explained how a person can get it in the book and maybe the sequel will. While we finally have a good introduction to Eagle Vision in the books it comes over that all Assassin's have eagle vision THEY AREN'T! It has to do with your DNA not every Assassin has it damned!
  • To many protagonists: There are 6 protagonists in the present and the past and 2 or 3 of them aren't important COUGH COUGH Abraham didn't need to be important at all FACT!
  • A few abvious plot holes: I mention one: So the Modern Day character David goes into the Animus STAY WITH ME! and enters the memory of his grand father WHO ALREADY HAS A CHILD! He is just there and has hardly purpose in the story I just skipped his part once and they tried to explain it but it just comes over dumb even the characters don't find it making any sense HAHAHA
  • The past drags on: This is the first time I liked a 19th century historical part in any form of media and I don't think it fits AC at all... But it just drags on for me because I just want to go to the present.

Tiny issues:

  • Kinda funny that all these kids have ancestors walking around the same area at the same time but this I can forgive because this hardly happens some characters admit and I can buy it...
  • The ending while not bad at all it was good but the Modern ended on a soft cliffhanger BECAUSE SEQUEL but this kinda annoys me a tiny bit
  • Fans can agree on this one: I am getting bored that the only reason why we go back into the past is because a POE, AC2 did it different, Revelations had a big message and in AC3 it had to do with the Grand Temple. The formula is getting old.
  • They mention the Abstergo symbole once but don't say how it looks like.

While it seems like alot of issues THEY AREN'T! I have pessimism and so I have to look for the smallest problems but I had so much fun reading the book and the sequel is called  Assassin's Creed: Last Descendants - Tomb of Khan

  • 300 Pages
  • Canon book (takes place during the games, movie and comics)
  • The book is for 12 years and older and doesn't mind describing racism
  • Action, adventure, si-fi, mystery book

If you are still not convinced maybe the movie trailers convinces you MUST BUY BOOK

The movie is it's own story btw
