100th post here! We've come a long way.

Love the cover page, Bisons? FORESHADOWING? Bisons=admiral greenbull?

Milk repairs teeth now! Love the fight between gangster casear and Luffy. OH and Big Mom will get taken out now, the straw hats got bathed and ate food so they were all healed. Oda wouldn't do that just for them to rescue Sanji and leave!

You know a gag scene is full on redonkulous when Luffy has to be the one to make a face vault.

So, this chapter reminded me that Lola exists and... I've already made my feelings on that whole matter in a different post, so I'll just leave it at that. Also, and I hate to sound like a real spoil sport here, but can we not put the cute bunny girl in a bathtub and sexualize her like pretty much every other woman since the time-skip? It's not even a matter of her being a rabbit because I'm pretty sure she's like 15... I dunno, maybe Chopper likes it.

But anyway: The Straw Hat-Fire Tank Alliance is formed, but more importantly: CAESAR CLOWN IS BACK! It's been way too long since Caesar Clown has been onscreen, I just love that adorable little punching bag. xD That's definetly going to sweeten the pot on this whole final fight deal for me.

Also, I'm calling that Sanji vs. Strousen is going to happen. Why? They're both chefs... and that's it. It's just kinda how this series works. xD

Rebecca was only 16... and she was almost nude in her colosseum outfit xD But yeah, I get what you mean. Was kinda weird.

Also agreed with Caesar, I love that guy! xD

https://orojackson.com/threads/parallels-between-the-2-halves-of-one-piece.28485/#post-1671360

Basically one piece arcs pre timeskip parallel arcs post time skip.

Fishman Island=East Blue+Cocoyashi Village

Punk Hazard= Longue Town, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, Drum Kingdom, and Alabasta:

Dressrosa=Alabasta and Drum Kingdom

Zou=Skypeia

Following the pattern, Wholecake island=Enies Lobby/Water 7. This is VERY apparent when you look at how Sanji left the crew, his sad childhood, his rejection of Luffy and then ultimately is convinced to join back after breaking down into tears. The Straw Hats are also up against their biggest challenge in the story so far and their backs are against the wall. With that being said, this is a YONKO tea party, we know guests are going to be there. The WG would be stupid not to survey the party or at least have someone on the inside. This could lead to a possible Buster Call, hence the parallel between both arcs continues.

New chapter! One day early.

The hype continues! Gotta say this is the best allance so far xD Simply because they're all so different. Not sure what to think of the plan, this mother Caramel must be really important to Big Mom if she gets so furious because of a photo. But then again she also killed her son cause she was hungry, so...

Anyway I can't wait till it finally begins. Wanna see some action :P

Oh and I noticed this is the first time Luffy is willing to help killing someone. Usually he just wants to kick their ass xD

So Big Mom has a important person named Mother Caramel in her life. I hope this isn't used as some last minute act of sympathy for her where we interrupt the big fight for a flashback arc or whatever. Big Mom is too nasty of a character to be redeemable at this point. OP isn't really known for having those type of villains, but considering recent antagonists like Hody Jones, Caribou, and Senor Pink, I'm a bit skeptical regardless...

Other than that, pretty good chapter overall. This arc is still pretty meh for me, at least when it comes to Sanji, but I'm definetly on board with getting to the final battle now.

Yay, a new chapter!

Tea Party begins! The flashback with Jinbei was nice, and it convinced me even more that Jinbei will die for Luffy someday. Ever since Impel Down I had that feeling and he even thinks so himself.

The guys from the Underworld look really... interesting xD I hope we see or hear more of them before the chaos happens.

Best part was defo the appearance of Katakuri (or Dogtooth? Found both versions). Anyway he got the best design I've seen in a while, the highest known bounty so far and apparently can look into the future with his OH. The next chapters will be REALLY interesting xD

THE HYPE IS REAL

DOGTOOTH HYPE!!!!!!!!!! He looks SICK, the fur around his face+the name dogtooth! I predict he has a zoan that turns him into a dog or a wolf like creature, that'd be sick against Chopper or Luffy. HOLY SHIT HIS OBSERVATION HAKI. Oda is hyping him up big time!!

My man Jinbae is going to die in the future :(. And Caesar was controlling the stairs!!

Tea party crash at the end of next chapter??

I predict that Luffy will jump out of the cake.

And Caesar was controlling the stairs!!

That wasn't Caesar, it was Perospero.

Anyways: I'm fairly sure most of these underworld dudes were foreshadowed in Punk Hazard in some way. I remember that scene where Caesar was prattling on about Smiley or some other super weapon and it showed the silhouettes of all those black market dealers. Seems like something that would be used to foreshadow people like this.

Oh yeah, and I'm confused: why did Bege go through the trouble of making this plan where they only have five seconds to take out Big Mom and not bring up the fact that Coolguy McBrawny Man (i.e. Dogtooth i.e. a shoo-in for a playable character for the next OP game I'm sure) is able to see the future? Seems like something that should have been brought up and addressed and maybe even have a back-up plan/cautionary measure taken in the plan itself... oh well.

I wonder that too. I assume Dogtooth can only look into the future when he's willingly doing it, and only for one person at a time. That would explain why he won't be able to know of Luffy appearing at the Tea Party. And he might not check Bege's because he's somewhat trustworthy... that's the only solution I can think of xD I mean he would easily see that Bege is about to shoot at Big Mom and what not. So I'm sure there's a reason Bege didn't bring that up.

I know it's really late but I just got finished powering through some more OP episodes (and dealing with video player issues all day, blegh) and I got up to episode 429, the end of the Little Blue East arc, which as you know is the arc that was made to promote the Strong World movie.

So naturally on my seemingly endless quest to consume all OP media I can as I continue to catch up with the anime, I watched Strong World too. And what did I think?

First off: Watching this movie made me feel nostalgic for OP things gone past, which works in the sense that the film is a celebration of the 10th anniversary of the series, but I say that as both a compliment and a criticism because a lot of this felt really derivative of previous story arcs. Saving Nami from opposing pirate crew who she joined against her will? That's Arlong Park. Nami getting sick? That's Drum Island. Villain extorting civilization through climate control? That's Alabasta plus Skypeia. Heck, it's even in the sky. More Skypeia. Cute duck sidekick? That's also Alabasta.  Painfully telegraphed fight set ups for Luffy, Zoro and Sanji? ... Actually, that happens even in the source material and other movies too, sometimes involving the whole crew. xD The point is the story didn't blow me away, but at the same time, it didn't really have to, so oh well.

What really gets me however is how Oda was involved in this project and yet the villain of the whole thing is a total letdown. Yeah, I'm not the first guy to say it, but seriously, I did not like Shiki in pretty much every way possible. How do you take a guy, even a guy made up for filler-with-budget, shove him in the same category with Gol D. Roger himself, and make him look like he could have been easily stomped by Luffy and co. before they even left the Grand Line? Seriously, more than half the crew don't even need to be here, they're just add-ons.

I mean, he loses because of a deus ex machina weather biz and he just stands there and takes it. Look, I'm not into power levels or anything, but you'd think a guy with an OP ability like his combined with all the feats set up by the movie and the promo material (not to mention, again, on the SAME league as Roger, hello) would at least seem tougher, but most of the time, he's just floating around and smiling like a jackass. Why can't he just drop a pillar of dirt on them? ... Okay, yeah, he did do that, but he wasn't aiming to kill. He doesn't even bother to use his damn legs to fight. And they're literally swords! I was waiting for him to cut someone with those things and it never happened. (Water prison thing doesn't count because a) no contact and b) that scene was stupid, he could have killed Luffy right there but he didn't).

He's not even funny either, his quirks are just random and weird. So is his blatantly obvious B/T routine schtick with Indigo and the gorilla. Every time they pose to the camera in that wink wink "ha ha, we're doing the thing that most characters do except we're referencing it outright so it makes me funnier" just made me wish someone would come in and dropkick them out of the scene. Btw, you can chalk up Dr. Indigo and the gorilla in that same "power level" boat too. I mean, Zoro and Sanji using techniques that they had to use on CP9 to beat? The gorilla didn't even put up a fight at all. I'm calling b.s. (Although, side positive note: Brook saving Robin instead of Sanji was comedy gold. I'd watch that a million times over the B/T shit from Shiki and co...plusRobinandhersexyassoutfitAHEManyway)

Side note: Seeing the Straw Hats walk in with suits and ties and unloading guns on people just feels wrong. I know it's supposed to be cool or whatever, but seriously, it was just an excuse for use those Oda designs, let's be real. They have powers damn it, just let them use them. They're not even firing at anybody important, they're mooks, for crying out loud... and what was with that chick with the "LOVE" tattoo on her forehead anyway? I thought she was going to do something.

Bottom line: I came in expecting something a lot bigger than it had the potential to be, and it didn't live up to said potential. We see a guy from Roger's era get stomped by a rookie who hasn't even gone through Haki training or Gear Foruth or any of that and pretty much none of it has anything to do with anything except the typical "nakama for life" schtick. Been there, done that. You can't even throw in a "old generation versus new generation" argument because it implies that everybody in Luffy's generation has that mentality of, again, "nakama" that only Roger had in his days. But I mea,n Kuro? Don Kreig? Crocodile? Big Mom? They'd kill one of their own over a sandwich, especially in Big Mom's case.

I guess you could say I thought it was overhyped. Still, not a bad movie, especially not in the animation department which is pretty much the best thing its got going for it, but I guess there's only so much you can expect from something like this. Even if original Eiichiro Oda lent his hand to writing the story... it's still basically filler with a budget (really good budget too, again, the animation is top-notch), so what can you do? It's harmless. I'd still buy it just so I can look at the pretty stuff and rewind the scene where Brook cockblocks Sanji. xD Speaking of which: props for Ian Sinclair's debut as Brook for the dub, he really knocked it out of the park given that it was his first time as the character.

Not a big fan of that movie either xD I think the story itself is actually pretty nice, nothing too special but not too lame, but it has a lot of BS. That Luffy could defeat Shiki at this point makes zero sense. Shiki just got way too overhyped, being the first person who escaped from Impel Down, having battles with Roger and actually getting compared to Roger, Whitebeard and so on by the marine.

And agreed with the weapon part of the Straw Hats. Luffy using a gun, wtf? xD

Worst part for me was the clown guy tho -_- Those annoying fart shoes, made the whole crew look ridiculous.

Also new chapter! Break on next week.

Not too much has happened, just the intro to the wedding.

We saw Mother Caramel, who... is even uglier than Big Mom xD Maybe it's her real mom? No idea.

Sanji is acting like an idiot, surprise surprise. Only interesting parts to me where the mentioning of the Tamatebako Box, I bet no one has included its explosion in their plan, and also the part with Caesar and Bege. Also damn, Caesar looks really cool xD

Oh yeah, that's right, the treasure chest with bombs inside, the bombs that will explode automatically if you open it... well, it's been building since Fishman Island, so it's obviously going to be opened. Classic Chekov's Gun scenario, right? ... if you can't tell, I'm very unsure of whether or not this thing is going to matter in the long run given that this whole assassination plan is already going underway.

I dunno, maybe she will open it, tank the bomb damage, see the Energy Steroids that are presumably still inside, think they're candy, pop some in her mouth, and then she die of overaging... I mean, that'd be a dumb way for her to go out, but it'd be funny as Hell too. xD

In all seriousness, I really don't know what's going to happen at this point, but you know, I don't really mind. It's make things more interesting. Although I'm still concerned about how Bege's plan factors in Dogtooth and Smoothie as well because they still got "big tier mini-boss" written all over them.

Ayy new chapter!

What an interesting turn of events. Pudding messed up the plan cause Sanji called her third eye beautiful xD Looks like her past hasn't been all that great, so I think it's understandable. And makes her character less one-sided, which is nice.

Kinda impressed that Sanji managed to dodge the shot of Dogtooth, that was not bad at all. And Luffy finally made his entrance, a la Shadow Clone Jutsu :P Well I wonder if the rest of the plan works out or not.

There wasn't a lot that happened this week, but now is the official start of the Big Mom operation so we should expect things to get a lot more heated from here on out.

First, about Pudding... uh, well, here's the angry version:

EAT MY GODDAMN ASS, YOU PIECE OF SHIT ARC!!!

FIRST YOU RUIN SANJI, NOW YOU RUIN PUDDING WITH THIS COP-OUT "WAH WAH FEELINGS" BACKSTORY BS AT THE LAST F*CKING MINUTE BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE THE BALLS TO LET A CHARACTER PORTRAYED AS BEING EVIL STAY THAT WAY AND USE THE FLIMSIEST, UNBELIEVABLE EXCUSE EVER TO PISS IT ALL AWAY TOO! I AM SO SICK AND TIRED OF THIS RIDICULOUS SHIT! END THIS ARC! END IT BEFORE I END MYSELF! GAME OVER MAN! GAME OVER! AAAAAAAAAAAAAGH--*dragged away to the funny farm*

tumblr_inline_ol1nn8A7Xw1r467xg_500.gif

Okay, now here's the civilized version:

I didn't like the Pudding flashback. Like, at all. This character, who's been doing nothing but being a two-faced bitch scheming to kill her fiance and looking creepy ever since she's been showing off her third eye, suddenly gets complimented on her third eye by some lovestruck moron and starts bawling her eyes out because all she needed was someone who accepted her for who she was because she was bullied all her life and blah blah blah...

Look, I'm not against character development or anything, but for me, this is just sloppy writing and it feels forced. It feels like Oda at one point wanted to go all the way and make this character as unsympathetic as possible (you know, like with 95% of all the other villains of this series...) but then decided "Eh, people liked her when she was faking sincerity at the beginning of the arc, so whatever, l'll cut her some slack." Pudding was perfectly fine as an antagonist with no redeemable qualities. This arc is full of them and she fit the bill just fine. Plus we already have Reiju who is far more convincing in the opposite role.

There's not much I can say about the chapter overall. Luffy being asleep annoyed me, the plan started so everybody's freaking out, and now Luffy has clones. Why? Cliffhangers, that's why. And at this point, my excitement for this arc is now back to an all-time low... the fights better be good, that's all I'll say.

EDIT:

Alright, now that I've thought about it, harping on about Pudding's backstory was a bit excessive. It was one moment in one chapter and we don't even know what the end result will be yet, so for the sake of fairness, I'll hold judgement on it.

... but if turns out that I was right and Pudding actually becomes legitimately "reformed", then I'll be really pissed.

Chapter 863 is out!

Damn that was cool :O The good part finally started! Capone's face when Luffy revealed himself was priceless xD Dogtooth got another Logia power, which is interesting. Best part though was Jinbei, when he said "Someone who joins the crew of the future Pirate King can't cower at a mere yonko." Really impressive, and makes me like him even more.

And the ending proved who the real MVP of his arc is: Brook xD First the porneglyph and now the portrait. That guy is so awesome in this arc, and I'm really happy about that.

Can't wait for the next chapter, arc is on fire now!

And here a nice picture of all characters that appeared in One Piece, over 600! :O

Poor Gastino. Can never catch a break. xD

Anyways: it's about time that Jimbei finally joined the crew after being teased to do it for so long. Honestly, I prefer him over pretty much everybody else that's been speculated to join. Sorry, Carrot fans. xD

And man, f*cking Brook coming straight out of nowhere and just wrecking the picture. xD That's definetly one way of making sure the momentum for the operation keeps up. I can't wait to see how Big Mom will react next chapter. It's going to be a massacre. xD

Of course they are, that'd be like forgetting characters as crucial as Shelly or those four Alabastian guards that drank that steroid water and got stomped like five minutes after.

New chapter!

Well... not that much has happened. Big Mom can't move anymore, with that shock, the Germa is a bunch of idiots xD Brook made me laugh twice in that chapter... what else... two more sons with two more devil fruits appeared... a freaking Genie!!! Think that was it. Hope next time Big Mom finally makes a move.

You know, we got all these Charlotte brats coming out of the woodwork to fight but I was expecting Smoothie to play a bigger role at this point. I mean, she can literally suck the life out of people, that alone practically hands her a "quirky mini-boss" license ala Dogtooth (who am I sure will at least fight Luffy or if not, at least someone that will help him show off his brawny manliness).

But yeah, not much to comment. Brook for the win though. xD

New chapter! And break next week.

So far the plan seems to work out. Caesar has readied the mirror to escape, Big Mom let out her monstrous scream and her knees got hurt. Now Bege only needs to hit her with that weapon and she's done for... Yeah that won't happen xD

Anyway nice chap. Sanji freed his family, was a nice picture with him standing on the table looking down on them. And looks like we get to see Big Mom's flashback next time. Calling it now, Big Mom is half human and half giant with her dad being a giant. That's why the flashback is on Elbaf and it would explain her obsession with the giants.

Yaaaaay, Sanji got a cool pose even though he's still a one dimensional prick... Sorry, but I have to break my vow of silence this one time since that moment was meant to be a big deal this week.

In more positive news: Big Mom lets out her autistic screeching and DOWN SHE GOES... no, she's not xD We're going into a flashback arc now so that's a big sign in it of itself that she's not going down that quickly.

And I really really really hope that this isn't one of those flashback arcs that try to give a villain sympathy. I've rambled about this sort of thing before, but seriously, Big Mom is a nutcase. Let her be a nutcase. I already ranted about Pudding and although I admit I jumped the gun a little, I still stand by the notion that giving a villain some last minute sympathy just feels out of place. So if the flashback just wants to give us some background, that's all fine and dandy, it's just exposition, but do not try to make me care, because I don't and I won't.

Kinda think that's exactly what will happen xD The part where she asks her mother why she just disappeared heavily implies that. Wouldn't be surprised if it turned out Big Mom got bullied as a child. Could explain why she started to eat so much and also why she wants to create a state where all races live together, cause her being different has not been accepted on Elbaf. (Just a theory)

BUT: I don't think we will be supposed to feel sympathy for her. Oda said once that he wants villains to be villains, and that his readers should feel satisfied when they get defeated. So either the flashback will show that, like you said so nicely, she's still a nutcase or... or she becomes an ally. Though I hope not.
