  1. Possible Jungle Book map and more discovered within the code of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance

Following recent discoveries of hidden areas in the code of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, KH13 forum member Ligero_miguel joined the search and found some more interesting information within the game's code. His findings include beta mini-maps, concept art from the Prankster's Paradise world, unused items, unused HUD, a prototype menu, and beta screenshots. He has found messages by the developers within the code in the game, including references to the anime Puella Magi Madoka Magica and name of songs by Aerosmith, Bon Jovi and Joe Williams. He also shows a picture of the roman numeral "III", which he believes was due to appear after the end credits of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, following the secret message of "THIS LEADS TO KINGDOM HEARTS" which can be spelled out from the sequence of letters appearing during the credits.

Ligero_miguel mentions that his most interesting find is a file called "jb_621.bcd", a collision from a deleted map. He explains that maps with the numbers 60, 61, and 62 are "Dive Mode" maps, and speculates that the game initially included the Dive Map of a world inspired by The Jungle Book, which could have had an area code denoted by "jb". This is especially intriguing as there was an unused Jungle Book world in the code of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep. Also, an episode from the cancelled Kingdom Hearts TV series took place in the world of The Jungle Book, and Jungle Book medals were added to the Japanese version of Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ to celebrate the release of the recent live action movie.

The video below shows Ligero_miguel's discoveries in the code of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

What do you make of these findings? Would you like to see The Jungle Book in future Kingdom Hearts games? Let us know in the comments!

  3. New hidden area discovered in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance code

Recently, Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance's code was discovered containing a new hidden world/area. The new area found in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance's code appears to be some sort of ship. While it is uncertain what this area actually is, there is some info on the hidden code regarding the area.

The hidden area & code was discovered by YouTube user OmegaErkz.

According to Erkz, each code for the worlds contained in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance go by a certain area code. Worlds such as Hollow Bastion (hb), Destiny Islands (di), Twilight Town (tt), all go by this certain area code. The hidden area that was discovered has the area code "tp", which, if followed by the area code rule, could be an area based off of Disney's Treasure Planet.

The hidden area appears to have been scratched after an attempt to include it in the world selection for Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. You can check out the hidden area below thanks to YouTube User OmegaErkz (Starting at 2:53:29)

While it is uncertain what the area is, we'd like to know: What do you think it is? Do you think it's an entire world dedicated to Treasure Planet? Would you like to see it in Kingdom Hearts III? Let us know in the comments below!

Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-:

The third and final title in the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue collection is Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-. In the original title, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep: Final Mix, there was a secret ending within the sercret episode of the game that stated a continuation of the story will be developed. Many interviews in 2011 discussed the title, which was named Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep -Volume Two-. It was apparent that the project was put off, however has returned as Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-. Reasons for why Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep -Volume Two- was put off and why the title was changed is currently unknown. Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage- follows the events of Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep and continues the story on as Master Aqua. Also tied in is the events after Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance in which King Mickey reveals he has some secrets to confess to Sora. According to the screenshot contained in the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue trailer, it seems apparent that the title is using the same engine as Kingdom Hearts III. 5. Ben Diskin discusses latest Kingdom Hearts III trailer and recording process in reddit AMA

Ben Diskin, voice actor of Young Master Xehanort in the Kingdom Hearts series, is currently holding an AMA (ask me anything) thread on reddit, and we had the pleasure of asking him his thoughts on the E3 2015 Kingdom Hearts III trailer and his preparation for his role in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

Toominator: Hi Ben, I am a member of the news team for KH13.com, a fan site for Kingdom Hearts. We would love for you to tell us about what you thought of the most recent trailer. And for KH3D, you came into the game a bit late and KH is notorious for having a convoluted plot. Did you have people give you a breakdown of the plot before you started recording for KH3D? Thanks for doing this AMA!

Ben: Answering your questions a bit out of order here, but: Did they give me a breakdown of the plot? Well, I ASKED for one to which they responded with laughter. After they had finished cracking up, they explained that the plot was so complex that by the time they'd finished explaining what had happened across the previous games, we'd be out of time to record. ;)
As for the recent trailer, I liked it! I was EXTREMELY relieved to see the character design for Young Xehanort. See, this is another example of how secretive the KH franchise is. They COULD have told me during the recording process, "Okay, Ben. This takes place before the events of KH3D, so your character will be a bit younger. Can you lighten your voice a bit to represent that age difference?" What they did INSTEAD was say, "Okay, we'd like you to raise the pitch of your voice to match the Japanese seiyu's voice." I then pointed out that I'd never done that in the game and that MY Young Xehanort voice has always been deeper than the one in the Japanese version. They basically just said, "Yeahhhh..... Well, we want you to match his vocal pitch anyway. It just sounds better." So, they couldn't even tell me WHY they were making me change my voice and I left the session thinking, "Oh, Geez. This trailer's going to hit the Internet and people are going to get mad at me for not remembering how to do my character's voice. Why'd they have me change it so much??? This is gonna be embarrassing... :'("
So, I liked the way the trailer turned out, but I wish they could have given me a FEW details so I didn't think I'd screwed up. xD

His response clarifies that he was indeed involved in the recording process for the new Kingdom Hearts III trailer. It also seems as though he was given little to no information regarding the plot before he started recording his lines for Young Master Xehanort in Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and Kingdom Hearts III, but according to a previous question, he played Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts II before recording the lines.

Dimi3Infinity: How did you get into the world of Kingdom Hearts? Did you play the games or seen videos of the games before getting the role of Young Xehanort to get caught up with story?

Ben: I'd already played KH1 and KH2 in the past, but I barely remembered what happened in them and had never played any of the portable games. The thing about recording for KH that's very unique to other games is that the guys in charge tell me as little as they possibly can. (I presume this is to ensure I can't blab about anything to curious people on the Internet.) For instance, throughout the recording of KH3D, no one told me what my character was going through, what his motivations were, etc. It was all about saying the words in a specific way. ie, "Emphasize THIS word. Raise the pitch of your voice slightly on this other word. Lower your pitch at the end of the sentence. Take your time with the third word, and make sure you sound emotionally distant." So, I'd have no idea what any of my dialogue really meant, but it sounded like I did.

Ben mentions that he enjoyed the new Kingdom Hearts III trailer and was "relieved" to see his character's appearance in the game. He also reveals that the inspiration came from Japanese voice actor for Young Master Xehanort, Takanori Okuda. Then, Ben makes a point to remind us of how secretive Square Enix and Disney are with this property, as if we were not already aware!

Update: Ben Diskin has taken the time to answer more fan questions about the Kingdom Hearts series. Check out the rest of his Kingdom Hearts-related answers here.

We believe he gave a stellar performance in the trailer and has no reason to be embarrassed by his work, but what do you think? How do you feel about Ben Diskin's work in the series, and what do you take from his responses to the questions regarding Kingdom Hearts? Let us know in the comments below!

  6. Nomura doesn't like leaving Kingdom Hearts 3D as the only title without a HD remaster

In an interview from the September 25, 2014 issue of Famitsu Weekly, when asked if Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance would get a HD remaster, Nomura has stated that he doesn't like the idea of leaving Kingdom Hearts 3D as the only title without one. Nomura also

As you would know, with Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX containing Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX containing Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix and Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, Kingdom Hearts 3D is left as the only major game in the series without a HD remaster. Do you think that Square Enix will do something more with this game, eventually? Let us know your ideas in the comments below.

The full interview is available here (and relevant quote below), with translations thanks to goldpanner.

—By the way, what about KH3D? It’s not in KH1.5 or KH2.5.

Nomura: Aside from KHχ (Key), which is currently still underway, KH3D is the only title in the series not remastered in HD. I personally don’t like leaving it as the odd one out, so I think it’s an issue that requires consideration.
