  1. Overview of Everglow's new Kingdom Hearts Timeline video series

As a long-standing creator of guides and creative videos on the Kingdom Hearts series, Everglow has provided the Kingdom Hearts community with countless hours of enjoyable content. His latest and most ambitious video series, Kingdom Hearts Timeline, serves as a comprehensive look into the entire series’ chronology, from the elaborate schemes of Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover, to the most recent voyage that we see Sora and pals embark on in the epilogue of Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-.

Kingdom Hearts Timeline sets itself apart from similar projects by featuring each and every story event in absolute chronological order, instead of using flashbacks or revealing information in the order it was originally presented. As an example, during Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, the birth of Vanitas will be shown before the Mark of Mastery exam, despite the fact that this flashback is normally seen during the later hours of Ventus' story. This strict adherence to the series' chronology is emphasized by the intricate timeline that is displayed at the beginning of each episode.

Similar to another of Everglow’s projects, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix: HD Chronicles, the editing in Kingdom Hearts Timeline is both detailed and professional, resulting in perhaps the most visually and audibly appealing representation of the series to date. This detailed editing has already delighted many fans, and it will undoubtedly get even better as the series progresses.

Most recently as of the writing of this article, Everglow has taken a more creative approach to his Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep-related content than ever before. In this instance, since Eraqus' conversation with Aqua about the Land of Departure's secret was only heard through dialogue in the game's final episode, no visual footage of this moment actually exists. However, a special cutscene, which Everglow calls "Case of Aqua", was created completely from scratch to showcase this moment, and will soon be featured in Kingdom Hearts Timeline. You can view this new cutscene below:

Everglow intends for Kingdom Hearts Timeline to be fully available before the release of Kingdom Hearts III. From his description of the series, he states the following:

I did want to deliver this before the release of KINGDOM HEARTS 3, so we could have the perfect road to the final chapter of the Xehanort saga at our disposal and relive, together, all of the chapters in a definitive and never-seen-before way.

We hope that you continue to enjoy Kingdom Hearts Timeline as we steadily get closer to the release of Kingdom Hearts III! For continued updates on the series, be sure to follow Everglow's Twitter account. With the staggering amount of work he is putting into the project, you won't want to miss a thing!

What is your favorite part of Kingdom Hearts Timeline so far? What part are you looking forward to most? Let us know in the comments below!

  3. Review: Project Destati shines bright through DARKNESS

Impassioned by both music and video games, Kristin Naigus, David Russell, and Sebastian Wolff, the musicians behind Project Destati have aimed to reawaken the Kingdom Hearts soundtrack and celebrate its ambition and complexity. With a full orchestra and their own arrangements, they began to captivate the community with their beautiful and sometimes ingenious compositions. Their latest album, DARKNESS, continues to hit the mark, mastering the elements that made the songs we know and love and adding a flare of their own.

The formula was simple: orchestral reimaginings of a nostalgia-infused soundtrack paired with an unforgettable melody, blending together to reorchestrate beloved songs.

Both LIGHT and their debut album AWAKENING played with this equation. Melodies from Dearly Beloved, Roxas, and Hikari found themselves tucked into character, world, and battle themes. There wasn’t a song you couldn’t find these themes in and more hidden within. It became very akin to their musical stylings and showcased their devotion to the source material and displayed a love and understanding for the thematics that composer Yoko Shimomura and company built while composing the Kingdom Hearts soundtrack.

DARKNESS is no exception to this.

    Posted Image

The album opens with an overture built around familiar tracks and the new themes you will find throughout DARKNESS, bringing it all together to set the stage for the new 30-track set list. Jam-packed with highlights from Kingdom Hearts II, Birth by Sleep, 358/2 Days, Union χ[Cross], and more, there is a new maturity in the music that shows a penchant for originality that Project Destati has always exhibited in their reorchestrations. Tracks such as Ventus, Future Masters, and Daybreak Town take on lives of their own, drawing in Celtic inspiration and refreshing tempos. Magical Mystery, Home of Dragons, and A Day in Agrabah elevate the world themes with clever homages to their Disney counterparts. Even the return of the piano duet with Utada Hikaru’s Passion is a fervent spectacle that is perhaps the most ethereal of the tracks, displaying the intensity and talent we’ve come to expect.

The pièce de résistance, Xion, is a near eleven minute epic and what feels like the heart and soul of the entire project. Anyone familiar with Project Destati will have noticed the #XionLives plug they’ve used leading up to DARKNESS. The motif has been hidden throughout this album in a variety of ways, yearning to be found. The highly anticipated track is wrought with emotion, embodying the tragedy of the titular character as it evolves a simple melancholic melody into a haunting symphonic ballad. Much of the arrangement feels intentional. From the dynamic texture imitating the rise and fall of the sea to the inclusion of Roxas, these grabs are both symbolic and weighty given the context of the story the music is trying to tell. Needless to say, this will be a song not easily forgotten.

If you are a fan of Kingdom Hearts and its music, I implore you give DARKNESS a listen. There is so much more to explore in each song that we’ve only just scratched the surface. The arrangements are smart, colourful, and beautifully orchestrated with attention to themes and melodies that will let you relive every moment the soundtrack provides in new and unimaginable ways.

DARKNESS is available for purchase digitally at bandcamp, iTunes, TIDAL, and Google Play, available to stream on Amazon, Deezer, Kkbox, and Spotify, or pre-order the limited edition CD + digital album here!

  6. KH13's 2017 Kingdom Hearts Re:CAP Trailer

Coming soon to a computer screen near you! Join us on Sunday, January 7th, 2017 for KH13’s 2017 Kingdom Hearts Re:Cap! #KH13ReCAP

  7. 9 years of KH13.com in the Kingdom Hearts community

Today marks the 9th birthday of KH13.com! We are publishing this special feature to celebrate almost a decade of the impact KH13.com has had in the Kingdom Hearts community since its creation on October 9, 2008! KH13.com is now one of the best Kingdom Hearts fansites for news and media.

KH13.com originally started in 2008 by KH13 Webmaster DChiuch, with the help of Co-Webmaster Aaron. The website started out as a simple project between friends, however, soon became a full-fledged website for Kingdom Hearts news, media and discussion. At the time, high quality videos and media were hard to come by, so KH13 initially established itself by providing high quality trailer and cutscene downloads.

The name "KH13" was eventually settled on in a brainstorming session, after it was discovered that KH1.com through KH12.com were all taken – it seemed fitting that the first available domain would match up with Organization XIII. Around this time, KH13.com began to report Kingdom Hearts news, with the first article on Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days.

In January, 2009, KH13 decided to do the first major redesign, which was then released on January 14th, 2009. You can check out the design below.

    Posted Image

(Does this bring back any memories?)

Since then we have updated the website designs a couple of times; the current design is the 3rd update!

Skipping ahead to 2011, KH13 had become more well known, allowing us to start sending representatives to E3 as part of the press. sqexgal (now from SQEX.INFO) was our first representative, and former KH13 News Team member Oishii, Kingdom Hearts community veteran Churro, KH13 staff member (and former News Team Leader) Toominator, and Kingdom Hearts χ Team and News Team member Raxaimus have all been part of the experience since.

One important feature that has been prominent throughout KH13 is our gallery & video archives. Former KH13 Archives Team Leader and News Team member Sora96 has brought the video archives and gallery to what it is today, featuring over 29,000 images and hundreds of videos from the Kingdom Hearts series. Thanks also goes to Everglow, our partner, for recording thousands of cutscenes and playthrough videos for KH13's archives. Our wide selection of videos and images has brought in many visitors for KH13.

This past year has saw much excitement in the Kingdom Hearts Community. In November of 2016, the opening cinematics of Kingdom Hearts 0.2 -A fragmentary passage- was revealed at Paris Game Week. In January 2017, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue was released in Japan on the 12th and worldwide on the 24th. In March, the first performance of the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World Tour - began in Tokyo, Japan.

The tour had many stops around the world, which included London, Singapore, Los Angeles, and New York. During the tour, KH13 held three successful fan meetups. Social Media Team Leader Andrew Hankinson and News Team Leader Aquaberry hosted the first #KH13MeetUp in London in March 2017. The second one in Los Angeles was hosted by the dedicated Raxaimus. The third one was in New York, hosted by Toominator and Kingdom Hearts χ Team member Exilra. We gave out exclusive KH13 stickers to the lucky attendees, and had a card in each location for Yoko Shimomura, which fans at the meetup decorated with heartfelt thank you messages for the series composer.

We've made a montage for of each meetup with the help of our team members and Project Destati. You can watch them below!

In June 2017, during the World Tour concerts in Los Angeles, Tetsuya Nomura made a guest appearance where he revealed a new Kingdom Hearts III trailer. This trailer included gameplay of Olympus Coliseum and a cutscene from Twilight Town. At the end of the trailer, an announcement of an extended trailer was shown, giving the date of its release as July 15, 2017, at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.

As promised, this new extended Kingdom Hearts III trailer was revealed during the Level Up! segment of D23. This trailer revealed a new KH3 world: the world of Toy Story. The trailer showed off some gameplay along with a long cutscene of Sora, Donald, and Goofy meeting Woody, Buzz, and a few other toys in Andy’s room. At the end of the trailer was the most awaited news by the Kingdom Hearts community for more than a decade: a release year for Kingdom Hearts III, set for 2018!

All throughout this time, there have been exciting developments in KHUχ; in March 2017, the update from Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ to Kingdom Hearts Union χ was announced. The story has developed greatly to include a new (and old?) set of characters and plot twists that are but making players and non-players alike excited for how they will play out in the upcoming Kingdom Hearts III! For the sake of avoiding spoilers, we won't say any more, but you can check out the videos of KHUχ gameplay and story updates on Everglow's channel, the most recent being the product of hard work of KH13 translators Mio-chan and Lady Aleister.

The KH13.com community has also been growing on social media. Our Twitter (@KH13.com) has almost 25,000 followers. Our Facebook page (KH13.com, for Kingdom Hearts) has hit the 20,000 likes mark. We also have a new Playstation community page!

As we enter our 9th year, we would like to thank our current leaders of our various teams, which includes Aquaberry, WakelessDream, faemarch, and Andrew Hankinson; our vice leaders Leamax, Exilra and Wan_Pisu; and our LoL (Leader of Leaders): HarLea Quinn. We would also like to thank Toominator, Jake, and the current and past members of our various teams for their contributions to the page.

We'd like to also give the most important thanks of all to you, our readers, and the Kingdom Hearts community. Thanks to everyone here on KH13 for sticking with us for these 9 years. We hope to be around for many more, and to continue to provide the latest Kingdom Hearts news and media!

  8. KH13.com exclusive interview with author of Bossfightbooks' "Kingdom Hearts II" - Alexa Ray Corriea

Following the release of her book, Kingdom Hearts II, published by Bossfightbooks, Alexa Ray Corriea agreed to speak with staff member Toominator to discuss major aspects of the book and also talk a bit about the recent and coming trailers for Kingdom Hearts III. Alexa has been a games journalist for various video game news sites such as GameSpot and Polygon, and now dubs herself a full-time author.

Her book is essentially a collection of essays analyzing some of the deeper themes and character tropes seen throughout Kingdom Hearts II, while also including a bit of Alexa's own personal connection to the series. In this interview/podcast, both Toominator and Alexa explore these analyses and give listeners a good overview of what readers can expect from the book, while also discussing the topics further - going beyond what is in the book itself.

Please enjoy the discussion below, and be sure to pick up Kingdom Hearts II by Alexa Ray Corriea on bossfightbooks.com or Amazon.com, available as a paperback or e-book.

  9. #KH13MeetUp for New York City concert!

Some of the KH13 team are attending the "Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World Tour -" concert in New York City on the 24th of June. And after the success in London and Los Angeles, we thought this would be another great opportunity to meet up with fans before the concert begins!

    Posted Image

We will be meeting at the United Palace in New York City on Saturday the 24th from 4:00pm until guests begin to be seated.

We'll be in a public space so even if you're going to the concert the night before or are an eager fan, feel free to pop round! We welcome all!

As well as a meet up, KH13 have created a 3rd booklet to give to Yoko Shimomura (composer of Kingdom Hearts soundtrack) after the concert to show our appreciation of her musical talents in the franchise.

Fans who meet us at the concert hall beforehand and write a small compliment/message within the booklet, will receive an exclusive KH13 sticker! We will have 3 choices, but they will be limited!

Few things to note before writing in booklet:
    • Maybe write it out beforehand so you can just copy it in booklet on the day; we want to reduce the amount of spelling errors or mistakes as much as we can.
    • We’ll ask that you write in capital letters so it’s easier to understand/translate for Yoko Shimomura.
We will also be creating another short film of the meet up before the concert of what we got up to on the day! We will be taking general shots of the group, but it will also let you show off cosplays and let you say why you love the franchise. Of course if you don't want to be a part of this, you can just tell us on the day. The film will hopefully be created and uploaded within the following week!

If you take any pics with us be sure tweet about them using the hashtag #KH13MeetUp. We look forward to seeing you all there!

  11. Review: Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX

The Kingdom Hearts series recently celebrated its 15th anniversary with a bang, as renowned RPG developer Square Enix has paved the way to the series' long-awaited climax with a massive compilation. Released for Sony's PlayStation 4, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX offers some of the best experiences that Kingdom Hearts has presented to date, and consists of the first six works in the series. For the uninitiated, these six titles are:

    • Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, an enhanced re-release of the original game
    • Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories, a console-oriented overhaul of the Game Boy Advance interquel
    • HD cutscenes of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, the series' first Nintendo DS outing
    • Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, an enhanced re-release of the second numbered entry
    • Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix, an enhanced re-release of the series' prequel
    • HD cutscenes of Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, the series' second Nintendo DS outing
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX presents something for every fan to enjoy. Whether you are a newcomer who has decided to jump into the series, a seasoned veteran who has been an avid follower since 2002, or anywhere in between, this collection is sure to contain something of interest to you.

When considering the perspective of newcomers, it's no secret that Kingdom Hearts has historically had a reputation for having a confusing plot, due in large part to having its titles spread thin across many platforms. However, in recent years, series director Tetsuya Nomura expressed his desire to remedy this stigma by releasing every Kingdom Hearts title on a single platform. Through both this collection and the recently-released Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, Nomura's wishes have been fulfilled; nearly every game in the series is available on the PlayStation 4, with the upcoming Kingdom Hearts III set to continue this trend.

    Posted Image

As seen above, the newest iteration of the Kingdom Hearts timeline features only four overall releases. The two aforementioned collections and Kingdom Hearts III all have a simple, numerically-ascending order which highlights the intended play order. Meanwhile, while the series' mobile installment, Kingdom Hearts Union χ[cross], is presented as being first in the timeline, it is meant to be played late into the series, as it relies heavily on knowledge learned throughout most of the other games. In summary, with just a PlayStation 4 and a smartphone or tablet, the entirety of the Kingdom Hearts series can be easily understood and enjoyed by newer fans!
For returning Kingdom Hearts diehards, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX unfortunately offers little in the way of completely new experiences. While the Final Mix-exclusive additions and revamped HD cutscenes are carried over from the PlayStation 3 releases of Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX, there is no sign of any additional content which is exclusive to this PlayStation 4 release. Instead, much of the incentive for veterans to purchase this compilation comes in the form of technical improvements.

Kingdom Hearts speedrunner Bizkit047 outlines both the technical improvements and problems within Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX.

In the PlayStation 3 releases, load times were unusually long, and the included games all ran at 720p and 30 frames per second. In the PlayStation 4 version, by contrast, the load times have all but vanished, the resolution has been increased to 1080p, and the playable titles run at 60 frames per second, resulting in a clearer and more fluid image. The option to play at 4k resolution is even available to PlayStation 4 Pro owners, further increasing the collection's visual quality. Unfortunately, the framerate increase does not apply to any of the cutscenes present in the collection; this is only applicable to gameplay, as the cutscenes are strictly programmed to run at 30 frames per second.

While these improvements have been widely praised by players, the games are not without their own problems. Several players, including prominent speedrunners Bl00dyBizkitz and Bizkit047, have pointed out several glaring issues with the PlayStation 4 versions of each game. Several crashes and bugs which were present in the PlayStation 3 releases have been carried over, some new crashes have been reported, and the transition to 60 frames per second has introduced several inconsistencies regarding game physics and timings. Thankfully, Square Enix has already begun to roll out updates and patches to lessen or eliminate many of the offending issues.

Overall, while Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX is by no means a perfect product, and still has a great deal of technical hurdles to overcome, the collection provides an excellent starting point for new players, a large amount of nostalgia for returning players, and a great deal of improvement under-the-hood for those who seek a good-looking, smooth experience. If you've hesitated at the thought of playing the series, or simply want to experience the games in higher detail than ever before, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX will not disappoint.

  12. Editorial: The Kingdom Hearts series' 15th anniversary!

It is now the 28th of March, which means that the Kingdom Hearts franchise has officially turned 15 years old! KH13.com have comprised this article to commemorate this wonderful series that has brought us together today. Originally released in Japan on March 28th 2002, Kingdom Hearts is arguably one of the most bizarre video games ever released due to the unlikely collaboration between Disney and Square Soft (now Square Enix). Throughout the article we will be discussing the origins of the series and how it has brought many different people together.

    The Concept

The very first idea that lead to the creation of Kingdom Hearts was a conversation between Shinji Hashimoto (now the series executive producer) and Hironobu Sakaguchi (creator of Final Fantasy). The two wanted to create a game that rivalled Super Mario 64 in terms of the way players could move around in the game. The only characters as popular as Mario at the time were in fact Disney characters. Tetsuya Nomura, the lead character designer for Final Fantasy at the time, happened to hear the conversation and asked if he could direct such a project, which the two agreed to. Through pure chance, Disney and Square were working in the same building at the time and eventually Hashimoto encountered a Disney executive in an elevator. The pitch from Square Soft to Disney was somehow a success and hence, development for the first Kingdom Hearts began in February 2000.

    The Development

Tetsuya Nomura strived for his own original concepts for a protagonist rather than using famous Disney characters. There was a time when Sora was envisioned as a hybrid of a lion and a young boy, who wielded a chainsaw blade. Disney even considered the idea of Donald Duck being the protagonist. There were even restrictions in what Square could do with the Disney properties at the time. Kingdom Hearts was extremely ambitious and in the eyes of many, a huge risk for the company due to its peculiar nature. Square did not want to create a product that would disrespect Disney and Tetsuya Nomura did not consider the idea of a sequel to Kingdom Hearts because of his doubt in the project.

    Posted Image

Sora as a lion boy wielding his chainsaw blade.

Hironobu Sakaguchi (working as the executive producer) told Nomura that if Kingdom Hearts did not aim for the same level of quality as the Final Fantasy series, it would fail. Hence, the original Kingdom Hearts went through many drastic changes in its development cycle. Thanks to Sakaguchi’s advice, the story of Kingdom Hearts matured into something similar that you’d find in a Final Fantasy game. The main villain-Ansem Seeker Of Darkness did not appear until towards the end of the game which is similar to how villains appeared in retro Final Fantasy games. His personality is also similar to Sephiroth (FFVII). As a consequence of many of these drastic changes, there was a significant amount of cut content in the first Kingdom Hearts. Some of these include Final Fantasy VII’s Tifa Lockhart as an optional boss battle, Final Fantasy’s Bahamut as a summon and The Lion King as a playable world. However, due to time constraints and hardware limitations, these were not included in the first Kingdom Hearts game. One of the earliest trailers for Kingdom Hearts heavily implied the ability to control Donald and Goofy. Nomura eventually featured this mechanic of controlling party members in another game he would go on to direct-Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

    The Reception

For many Kingdom Hearts fans, their first game in the franchise was the original Kingdom Hearts. With its first title released on March 28th 2002 for Japan, September 17th 2002 for North America and November 15th 2002 for Europe, the Kingdom Hearts series has now sold over 20 million copies worldwide as of October 2013. The first Kingdom Hearts was met with critical acclaim and high praise, receiving a 9.5 from GameInformer, a 36/40 from Famitsu and a 9/10 from IGN! Many critics praised the graphics of the CG opening and ending. Kingdom Hearts was released during a time when voice acting in video games was fairly new, and when compared to Square’s Final Fantasy X (released in 2001), the voice acting was a huge step forward. Yoko Shimomura’s musical score was also highly praised at the time, and the Kingdom Hearts series is now widely respected for its amazing soundtrack. Not all reception was positive of course, with complaints against the tediousness of the Gummi Ship missions, the poor platforming sections and bad camera angles. In spite of all of this, critical reception was still very positive, and this is reflected in the popularity of the series today.

    The Games

Kingdom Hearts drew heavy inspiration from its older “brother”, Final Fantasy. The lighter themes of Final Fantasy games are drawn from things such as friendship, destiny and good versus evil. Tetsuya Nomura is also a huge fan of Star Wars, hence the themes of light and darkness may be considered as inspired by those films. To his delight, Mark Hamil was eventually cast to voice Master Eraqus in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep!

The story of the Kingdom Hearts series has evolved in a dramatic way that no one would have ever imagined. The original game was extremely straightforward and a tale of good versus evil; a young boy must find his friends and restore peace to the worlds. However, even the first game left a staggering number of questions at the end. Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories and Kingdom Hearts II helped answer these questions, but also introduced the Organization XIII and the concepts of Nobodies, which to some were confusing. Since KH1, themes of time travel (Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance) and alternate dimensions (χ [Chi/Cross] series) have been introduced. Every Kingdom Hearts game has left fans wondering if their questions will be answered in the next instalment. As a result, Kingdom Hearts III is now one of the most anticipated video games of the decade.

Kingdom Hearts II was released in 2006, and since then, many handheld games and side projects have been released to fill in the story gaps as well as introduce new lore. In a sense, they have created and built up the story for Kingdom Hearts III.

Although there may be a lack of concrete plot details, and many things have been retconned, there are many emotional and character-driven moments that have caused fans to fall in love with the series. A small few include - Xion’s death (358/2 Days), the endings of Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II and Birth by Sleep, Riku’s redemption and the battle between Sora and Roxas (KHII). The confusing nature of the plot led to Square Enix slowly bringing every Kingdom Hearts game to home consoles, beginning with the HD ReMIXes on PS3 and ending with both collections being available on PS4 this week.

Kingdom Hearts as a series has managed to reach a very wide audience; for example, KH13’s own staff and forum members come from a variety of age groups, cultures and countries! The Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World Tour - in London had fans travelling from Germany, Italy, Greece and even Canada! This is because the story deals with a wide range of different emotions that any person can feel, such as empathy, hatred, sorrow and happiness, regardless of their personal backgrounds. Many different people can relate to having these feelings. We feel this diversity makes the fanbase one of the most interesting in the community of video gamers. The fact that such a incredible story can appeal to so many different people is very peculiar!

    The Gameplay

In terms of its hack and slash combat, the series has seen many changes due to the switch in development teams after Kingdom Hearts II was released. Both KH and KHII focused on using the command menu, with more of a priority given to combo attacks. Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, Dream Drop Distance and Re:coded made use of a command deck, where players could stack a deck of abilities and would each recharge after being executed. Kingdom Hearts fans refer to the handhelds production team as the Osaka team, and the original team as the Tokyo team; with the Osaka team directing Kingdom Hearts III, many fans are anticipating how the game will feel after experiencing Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep -A fragmentary passage-. Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix is highly respected by many speed runners due to its in depth game mechanics, and to many fans, it is the best Kingdom Hearts game.

Many people have become fans of the series due to the Disney elements such as the various characters and worlds. Exploring worlds based on famous Disney films has always been a delight for players, with continuous discussions about which Disney worlds, characters and cameos should be featured in the next games! The games have always featured some form of treasure hunting: sticker collecting, collecting Ansem reports, finding the 101 Dalmatians and completing Jiminy Cricket’s journal. The platforming mechanics have improved over the last 15 years, with Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance allowing the player to use flowmotion and launch themselves off of walls. Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage- has a refined version of flowmotion that enables players to better interact with surroundings, something that has many times been addressed as one of the main developments in the gameplay of the upcoming Kingdom Hearts III. Many players have criticised the series for not including enough NPCs in the Disney worlds, which can make the worlds feel like hallways and rooms rather than actual worlds. Kingdom Hearts III is believed to be changing this aspect for the better! Throughout Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A fragmentary passage-, this feeling of emptiness is not present despite the player being alone in the Realm of Darkness, primarily because of the high level of detail in world design, enhanced by lighting and textures that the Unreal Engine 4 is using.

Allies in each Kingdom Hearts game can be interacted with in a very unique fashion and teamwork attacks. Kingdom Hearts did this through summons; Kingdom Hearts II through Drive Forms, Limit Breaks and summons; Re:COM allowed the player to call for Donald and Goofy’s help; Dream Drop Distance included Spirit Links; and D Links were a main feature in Birth by Sleep!

The gameplay in the Kingdom Hearts series has always varied from one instalment to another, and Kingdom Hearts III seems to be taking the best mechanics from each and implementing them in its own unique way. The game will feature Shotlocks, Drive Forms, Summons, the evolution of Magic, Flowmotion, Attraction Flow, Keyblade transformations and possibly other methods of defeating enemies that we are not yet aware of! Gameplay has always been something that fans of the series have loved because each instalment introduces a new feature.

    The KH13.com Experience

During the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World Tour - opening night show in London, KH13.com had the pleasure to meet Miss Yoko Shimomura, the composer who has been making unforgettable and heart-wrenching music that reduced us to tears during the concert; music that made everyone in the concert hall rise up simultaneously for a loud standing ovation after the final performance!

The 15 years we individually spent adoring this series, the 8 years KH13.com dedicated to bring out the best in its fandom and the weeks we spent planning our #KH13MeetUp were rewarded in a single moment on Friday the 24th of March. Our “Thank You” booklet containing messages from fans, a KH13 exclusive journal and KH13 stickers were only a small token of our gratitude to her and those who made the World Tour a reality. Her delight when receiving our gift and briefly hearing about our meet-up was more than worth the wait! At that time it was past 1AM, but we persevered!

During the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World Tour - Paris and London concerts, we put out constant live coverage of the two events, and are planning on doing the same for the future concerts to come. Check out our live coverage on the Paris concert here, and check out our live coverage on the London concert here.

KH13.com is now looking forward to meeting with the passionate fans of the Kingdom Hearts series at other events this year, such as E3 and the other Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World Tour - concerts!

If it weren’t for the amount of care, work, and trust Square Enix and Disney put into this series for the past 15 years, we would not be where we are now. The series has inspired countless people like KH13.com who dedicate their time to cover Kingdom Hearts news, discuss lore, make video skits, and produce amazing fan art, music covers, crafts, cosplay and more. The wait for Kingdom Hearts III has united Kingdom Hearts fans of all shapes and sizes. There is a light deep down that will never go out, and we would like to thank Tetsuya Nomura and everyone who has been involved in the process of making, distributing and promoting these games for bringing us all together under the same sky.

  13. #KH13MeetUp for London Concert

Some of the KH13 team (including Andrew Hankinson and Fàtima Kàiyum) are attending the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World Tour - in London on the 24th of March. So we thought this would be a great opportunity to arrange a quick meet up with fans before the concert begins!

    #KH13MeetUp for London Concert!

We will be meeting at the Central Hall Westminster on Friday the 24th of March from 5:30pm!

As well as a meet up, KH13 have created a booklet to give to Yoko Shimomura (composer of Kingdom Hearts soundtrack) after the concert to show our appreciation of her musical talents in the franchise.

Fans who meet us at the concert hall beforehand and write a small compliment/message within the booklet, will receive an exclusive KH13 sticker! We will have 3 choices, but they will be limited!

Few things to consider before writing in booklet:
    • Maybe write it out beforehand so you can just copy it in booklet on the day; we want to reduce the amount of spelling errors or mistakes as much as we can so it’s flawless.
    • We’ll ask that you write in capital letters so it’s easier to understand/translate.
If you take any pics with us be sure tweet about them using the hashtag #KH13MeetUp Look forward to seeing you all there!

You can also join our Facebook event page to get all the updates about the meeting by clicking here.

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone who came out to the meet up! We had a blast! If you want to check out updates from the meet up and from the concert, view this article. If you want to view images of the meet up, check them out below:

  15. 8 years of KH13.com in the Kingdom Hearts community

On October 9th, 2008, KH13.com was officially created. Today marks 8 years since the creation of KH13, and we'd like to celebrate that with a refresher on the history of KH13 and how it became to be one of the best Kingdom Hearts fansites for news and media.

    (Looks weird today, doesn't it?)

The design that is currently in use today is the 3rd iteration of KH13.

Skipping ahead to 2011, KH13 had become more well known, allowing us to start sending representatives to E3 as part of the press. sqexgal (now from SQEX.INFO) was our first representative, and former KH13 News Team member Oishii, Kingdom Hearts community veteran @Churroz and KH13 staff member Toominator have all been part of the experience since.

One important feature that has been prominent throughout KH13 is our gallery & video archives. Former KH13 Archives Team Leader and News Team member Sora96 has brought the video archives and gallery to what it is today, featuring over 25,000 images and hundreds of videos from the Kingdom Hearts series. Thanks also goes to Everglow, our partner, for recording thousands of cutscenes and playthrough videos for KH13's archives. Our wide selection of videos and images has brought in many visitors for KH13.

As 8 years have passed, there have been many individuals who have helped bring KH13.com to what it is today. We'd like to thank the current team leaders of the KH13 staff, which are HarLea Quinn, Toominator, soraspromise, & AndrewHankinson. Aside from the team leaders, we'd also like to thank the current and past team members who have contributed to KH13.com such as (Past) Sora96, (Past) Lu Xun, and many, many more.

We'd like to also give the most important thanks of all: to all of you, our readers and the Kingdom Hearts community. Thanks to everyone here on KH13 for sticking with us for these 8 years. We hope to be around for many more, and to continue to provide the latest Kingdom Hearts news and media.

We'd also like to share one more thing: KH13 member Aqua7KH recently met Quinton Flynn, voice actor of Axel and Lea from the Kingdom Hearts series. Check out his message to KH13.com below.

At TeeFury you will find your favourite pop culture tees, with a brand new limited edition design every 24 hours.

    Posted Image

To enter the competition you do two things:
    • Follow/Like TeeFury’s Twitter/Facebook pages and retweet/share the competition posts! Simple!
    • We want to see your Keyblade designs for a world we haven’t yet seen in previous Kingdom Hearts games!

Two simple things! Make sure to do both! As well as the look of the Keyblade, you could show how it’d be used, it’s abilities, advantages, and it’s influences; visuals or notes! There are many worlds out there you can use including animations like Tangled, Big Hero 6, Robin Hood; or live action films like Narnia, Mary Poppins, Maleficent; or even Square Enix games like Final Fantasy X, XV, etc. Entirely up to you!

    How to enter:
1 Upload your fanart to KH13 (either to the Fan-made Images gallery, or by making a new topic somewhere), and then put a link to your fan-art in the comments below so that we can find it easily.
2 The fan-art must be a Keyblade design for a world we haven’t yet seen in the Kingdom Hearts franchise! You can enter multiple times if you want to increase your chances, but they all must be created for this competition!
3 At midnight EST on April 16th, 2016, our team will deliberate and decide on our favourite fan-art submitted, contact the winner of the contest, and contact them letting them know how to get their free t-shirt!

Good luck to everyone! Even if you don't win, there is still a chance we will feature your fan-art on the KH13 Facebook, KH13 Community Twitter and the KH13 Tumblr. Above all, have fun!

  17. [Updated] Announcing the official Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ KH13 party!

Update: Now that Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ is out in full swing, the Official KH13 party has decided to have slight member purges for users who contribute very little to the party. As the weekly union rankings come in, we will be removing the bottom 3 players (in terms of Lux collected) and recruiting new people to join the party. That is not to say that if you have been in the party and got removed that you can't join again. If you show improvement, we will gladly add you back! That said, we are now looking to fill 7 spots in our party! We would like to have people of higher levels/Lux collection! Just leave a screenshot of your character in the comments!
    The original article follows.

    <3 <3 <3

We hope everyone is enjoying Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ, which released on April 7th! The staff of KH13 have decided to open up an official party for the entire KH13 community - especially people who wish to seriously compete for a top spot in the leaderboards! This is the perfect opportunity to play with other members of the site! However, there are a few restrictions:
    • We have chosen the Vulpes union! That means that, in order to join our party, you must be in the Vulpes union. In order to change unions, tap Menu -> Other -> Switch Unions.
    • There are a limited number of spaces available (max 30) so this will be a bit competitive.
    • We are genuinely aiming to reach the top of the leaderboards, so please be serious in achieving this as well.
All you need to do at this point is share your ID number in the comments below, and share a photo of your character's stats (tap your player icon on the top left of the screen, then take a screenshot). If you receive an invite, then you're in! Good luck!

  18. Join KH13's PlayStation Network Community & Xbox One Club

In late November, Sony released a mobile app for their Playstation Community feature (which launched in 2015). Communities allow you to do a variety of things with other people such as message the group via the group messaging system, allowing you to share screenshots, and you will be able to join parties/games.

With this in mind, KH13 created its own community page which is free to join by anyone! What this means is that members of our community can communicate on our PlayStation 4 systems via PlayStation Network in our community and get to know everyone better.

Along with the KH13 Community on Playstation, we've recently made a KH13 Xbox Club! All Xbox One users on KH13 can now enjoy the same features in the official KH13 Club!

Here's how you can join us:

    Playstation 4

    • Start the Communities app on your system and search for "KH13". You'll find "KH13 Kingdom Hearts Community" and be able to join, easy peasy!
    • Would you rather use your phone? Download and install the Playstation Communities app from your mobile store, log in to your PSN account in the app and search for "KH13". You'll find our page there!
    Xbox One
    • Go to Community, select the Clubs category and search for "KH13". The club is named "KH13 Kingdom Hearts Club". Join up!
    • On mobile? Download and install the Xbox mobile app and log in to your Xbox account. Enter the Club-section of the app and search for "KH13". Now you're ready to join!
Once you've done that, you're officially in our community. Enjoy!

If Kingdom Hearts III ends up having online multiplayer support, will you utilize our community to play with other avid Kingdom Hearts fans? Let us know in the comments below!
