GFK Chart-Track has released their sales info for the week ending on December 6, 2014 in the United Kingdom, and with this we now have our first indication of how the English release of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX is selling. HD 2.5 ReMIX came in at 3rd place on the list of the top selling full-price PlayStation 3 titles for the week, and 28th or 31st for all platforms overall, depending on whether you look at the full-price or all-inclusive charts.
It is worth noting that these charts typically don't track sales directly from the publisher, so all sales of the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX Collector's Edition would not have been taken into account.

Yasue discusses Kingdom Hearts III's switch from Luminous to Unreal Engine 4, Nomura's involvement, & Disney properties being considered
In an interview with Eurogamer, Tai Yasue, the co-director of the Kingdom Hearts series, has discussed Kingdom Hearts III in the lead up to Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX's release in Europe. Here, Yasue explained the switch from Luminous Engine to Unreal Engine 4 and its effects on Kingdom Hearts III's development, Tetsuya Nomura's involvement in the development so far, and the prospect of various Disney properties being used in the game. These important portions of the interview can be read below, with a big thanks to Eurogamer.
On Unreal Engine 4:
Yasue: "The technology is moving forward a lot. That's something we've learned from the West, I think, in a big way. We're using Unreal Engine 4 right now, and that really has changed the way we make the game. There was nothing wrong with the Luminous engine at all. We decided that Unreal 4 was right for us. There was a huge network of people actually using it, we were communicating with the Japanese people at Epic a lot - it was like a complete product."
Yasue: "It was easy to shift to, but at the same time though, there was a lot of stuff specific to Kingdom Hearts that we couldn't really do on Unreal 4 at first. So we had a lot of co-operation from Epic - they did a lot - at the same time we were doing a lot of customisation of the engine as well, to suit our needs. A lot of painstaking detail - the shadows for example, the really vivid colours, that sort of thing - we couldn't really do at the beginning, so we had to remake/customise the engine and add a lot of parameters."
Eurogamer: Given that the game began life on Luminous, does that mean work on the initial teaser from E3 2013 had to be completely scrapped?
Yasue: "We use the same graphical assets, so we didn't throw any of that away, and I guess a lot of the experience we got from making that for E3, that experience really translated to our development now. It was in our initial production stage, so I think we were learning a lot of stuff while using the Luminous engine."
On Nomura's involvement since stepping down from being the director of Final Fantasy XV:
Yasue: "Nothing has really changed. The development team is in Osaka, and Nomura-san didn't really do a lot of the detailed stuff, as he's really the sort of creative visionary. We communicate as much as we did previously, so our working relationship hasn't changed at all. We are speeding up things for development, obviously, on Kingdom Hearts 3 as we move along, but I don't think it has anything to do with Final Fantasy."
Eurogamer: Has Disney made anything off-limits to the team at Square yet?
Yasue: "At our current stage, they have not said no. There's a lot to choose from, a lot of wonderful new IPs. No specifics but there are a lot of new IPs that we are considering and there's a lot on our table, and Disney hasn't said no - we don't have any trouble with that."
On the purpose of the HD collections:
Yasue: "It's been 12 years since the original Kingdom Hearts came out in 2002; it's been a long while. We want new users to be able to understand the story before going into Kingdom Hearts 3, so I guess that was the plan - making Kingdom Hearts 3 but making it more accessible by making 1.5 and 2.5."

Tai Yasue, the co-director of the Kingdom Hearts series has revealed in an interview with IGN that the Kingdom Hearts HD collections, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX could be ported to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the future. Yasue mentions he understands what the fans want and that it is something they will explore but they also don't want to delay Kingdom Hearts III's development. You can read what Yasue said in full below. IGN has announced they will have more with Yasue later in the week.
"When we first came up with the idea for Kingdom Hearts III, it was always 1.5, then 2.5 and we were always thinking about those three titles at the same time," he explains. "I think [putting the games on PS4] is something we’ll explore. We understand what our players want, so we will explore the possibility. I’m not making any announcements though, we can’t make any announcements yet!"
But while Sony gamers would likely appreciate the refresher, with Kingdom Hearts III heading to Xbox One as well as PS4, arguably it's Xbox owners that need the earlier installments of the game more than anyone else. When asked about whether an Xbox One edition of 1.5 and 2.5 could ever see the light of day, Yasue was hesitant. While the initial reasoning behind this was thought to be the initial exclusivity deal with Sony, it seems resources play just as much of a part.
"It’s a big old question," he says. "There’s a lot of things we need to think of when we consider consoles. One of them is what our players want, so we will definitely consider that. But there’s also schedule constraints, as we really don’t want the development of Kingdom Hearts III going later, so we have that to think about. We’ll consider all these things and come to a decision."

Prior to the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX launch event for North America, Square Enix kindly offered for Kingdom Hearts fansites to interview the director of the Kingdom Hearts series, Tetsuya Nomura. Churro attended the event on behalf of KHUltimania and KH13, and was given the chance to ask Nomura questions about HD 2.5 ReMIX in a group interview with KHInsider. With a big thanks to Square Enix for the opportunity, Churro for making it all the way to the event and asking questions, and to KHI for writing up the transcript, here is our group interview:
---To start things off, how are you today, Nomura-san?
Nomura: I'm doing fine, thank you. Looking forward to being here. Actually my flight was delayed for 2.5 hours but I didn't realize it until later because I had fallen asleep (laughs).
---How did it feel to revisit these titles again?
Nomura: It felt the same as it did throughout the series, as our focus was to make the game more accessible to newer players. That was our stance throughout the project, and it has not changed.
---How big was the development team for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix?
Nomura: It was the same as 1.5. We has a designated team of programmers specifically working on the remasters and a same art team that's been working on the series.
---One of the two new scenes in Re:coded features a conversation Xigbar has with Young Master Xehanort before the events of KH3D. In this scene, it appears that not even his younger self is entirely on board with Master Xehanort's plans, as if his status as a confident participant is uncertain. Could you tell us about his position at this current point in time and what we may look forward to in the future with him?
Nomura: As you know, Xehanort loses his memory at the end of KH3D. However, he has something like a beacon inside him that guides him unconsciously. It's a feeling in his heart that he doesn't quite understand but follows regardless. In that regard, you could say he really is just walking the path laid out for him.
---Many of our fans are excited to see the Birth by Sleep Final Mix secret ending, which mentions Birth by Sleep Volume 2. What were your thoughts behind including this?
Nomura: I suppose you could say that the ideas are "floating". See, Birth by Sleep Volume 2 was never meant to be the second chapter of Birth by Sleep. Rather, it was intended to be a separate piece. The ideas are still there, but they are not currently being pursued. Perhaps in the future we will have the opportunity to touch back upon this subject.
---What was the process in choosing which scenes from Re:coded to remake?
Nomura: I'd go over the entire script first. Of course the scenes that were already animated would automatically be included, but we'd tweak them in such a way that "adds flavor". That is, make them more interesting for players to experience and more suitable for cinematic theater as we can't rely on gameplay. We also focused on taking the scenes that focused purely on the Kingdom Hearts original content, and enhanced them further because they are so crucial to the story. In order to select from the Disney worlds, we focused on balancing the important scenes with the charm that these characters and locales inherently bring.
Update: Part 2 of Churro's interview with Tetsuya Nomura is now available. Nomura discusses the possibility of a HD remaster of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance and that Kingdom Hearts Re:coded HD Cinematic Story Video connected to Kingdom Hearts χ[chi].
You can read it below with a big thanks to Churro, and to KHI for the transcript.
---In the credits of Kingdom Hearts 1.5, scenes from Kingdom Hearts 2, Birth by Sleep, and Re:coded were shown to hint at the next remaster. In the credits of Kingdom Hearts 2.5, scenes from Dream Drop Distance and Kingdom Hearts 3 were shown. Recent updates in Kingdom Hearts X[chi] also showed updated models for characters from Dream Drop Distance.
A comment was previously made that a remaster for this title would be under consideration, but has that changed now that 2.5 has been released?
Nomura: On one hand, technological tests have proven that we are capable of making an HD version of the game, but on the other hand, I also feel that it may not be as appealing (compared to Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX) if we release Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance] on its own. We are still trying to determine what would be the best course of action.
---The Book of Prophecies introduced in Kingdom Hearts X[chi] contains records of events that have yet to exist, whereas Jiminy’s Journal and the Datascape contains records of events that have already occurred. How does their connection, as suggested by Maleficent in Re:coded, play a role in future events?
Nomura: It will be revealed eventually, so please look forward to it.
---English cutscenes were left entirely intact in the Japanese version of Kingdom Hearts 2.5, yet the Japanese cutscenes were removed in the English version. Does the possibility for a proper dual-language option exist for future installments?
Nomura: In Kingdom Hearts, the characters are lip-synched, so if we do a proper dual-language option, there will be twice the amount of data for cutscenes and sound. Because of that, it might be tough to make happen due to limitations on capacity.
---What was the inspiration of creating a villain like Master Xehanort?
Nomura: I wanted this character to be not like a monster, but more like a master of martial arts who has trimmed away anything unnecessary. A being that would represent darkness, and a sense of terror exuding from his silent demeanor. One who wants to negate Sora -- that is the root of my inspiration.
---KH1.5's special credits contained scenes from KH2, BBS and Re:coded, which eventually became the titles included in KH2.5. Will the KH2.5 special credits contain a similar hint?
Nomura: I’d like players to see for themselves by playing through the game.
---Which Organization XIII Data fight from Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix was your favorite?
Nomura: Though I wouldn’t call it my “favorite fight,” there is something I found very interesting (fascinating). Zexion never had a style of combat (since the player did not fight him in the original Kingdom Hearts II), but when the two teams worked simultaneously to create him (Osaka team for Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories and the Tokyo team for Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix), his battle style turned out completely different between the two games.

New Kingdom Hearts III footage shown at Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX NA launch event + new info to be revealed in 2015
At the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX North American launch event at the Walt Disney Studio Lot in Burbank, California, Square Enix has shown new Kingdom Hearts III footage and revealed that they will release new information in 2015. The new footage showed concept art, new Heartless designs, a huge town titled Cable Town with Sora in a library/study room and new gun Keyblade attacks for Sora. Sora was shown in various Kingdom Hearts II outfits including Valor and Wisdom form. To expand on the gun Keyblade attacks, Sora's Keyblade transforms into dual guns and then transforms into a cannon. Chi was also written on a blackboard in the study room, this may be related to Kingdom Hearts χ[chi] but this is simply speculation. Thanks go to @churroz for the information.
Update: Siliconera has posted their impressions of the footage. They reveal that Yoko Shimomura, composer of the Kingdom Hearts series was also at the event and performed a couple of the series' most famous songs. They have also included what Heartless they believe were shown. You can read them below.Spoiler
Update 2: Square Enix has told those who attended the event that the footage was only intended for those who attended the North American and European launch events and that more information will be revealed in 2015. This is likely due to the footage still being quite raw. Thanks go to @churroz for the tip.

Archives Team member Everglow (the administrator of our sister website, Sora's Dream) was invited to a private event in Milan, Italy on November 7, 2014 where they allowed you try the Italian version of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX before its release on December 5, 2014. The Italian version of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX features English voicing acting with Italian text.
Everglow noticed whilst watching a friend of his play the Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix portion of the HD collection at the event that Roxas has new battle quotes. Square Enix took these battle quotes straight from the Nintendo DS version of Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days along with Ventus in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix.
You can view pictures of Everglow at the private event below.
