New Kingdom Hearts III footage shown at Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX NA launch event + new info to be revealed in 2015
At the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX North American launch event at the Walt Disney Studio Lot in Burbank, California, Square Enix has shown new Kingdom Hearts III footage and revealed that they will release new information in 2015. The new footage showed concept art, new Heartless designs, a huge town titled Cable Town with Sora in a library/study room and new gun Keyblade attacks for Sora. Sora was shown in various Kingdom Hearts II outfits including Valor and Wisdom form. To expand on the gun Keyblade attacks, Sora's Keyblade transforms into dual guns and then transforms into a cannon. Chi was also written on a blackboard in the study room, this may be related to Kingdom Hearts χ[chi] but this is simply speculation. Thanks go to @churroz for the information.
Update: Siliconera has posted their impressions of the footage. They reveal that Yoko Shimomura, composer of the Kingdom Hearts series was also at the event and performed a couple of the series' most famous songs. They have also included what Heartless they believe were shown. You can read them below.Spoiler
Update 2: Square Enix has told those who attended the event that the footage was only intended for those who attended the North American and European launch events and that more information will be revealed in 2015. This is likely due to the footage still being quite raw. Thanks go to @churroz for the tip.

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 & 2.5 ReMIX + HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue cover artwork have a hidden message toward Kingdom Hearts III
During an interview with Dengeki PlayStation, Tetsuya Nomura, director of the Kingdom Hearts series has revealed that the cover artwork for Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX, 2.5 ReMIX, & HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue all connect together as a hidden message for Kingdom Hearts III.
Tetsuya Nomura says that the 3 pieces of artwork start with Sora sitting, then standing, and finally walking. There is also a flow of time with the 3 pieces of artwork, where 1.5 is sunset becoming night, 2.5 is in the middle of the night, & 2.8 is night breaking into dawn. All of this connects to a hidden message for Kingdom Hearts III.
You can read Nomura's answer below, thanks to Catherine Mueller (firstname.lastname@example.org) for the translations.
--You also revealed a gorgeous package art.
Nomura: There are actually two secrets about the illustrations from [KH1.5] until [KH2.8]. Extremely attentive KH fans might have already discovered them, but one is that Sora's movements change from sitting, to standing, to walking. One more is that when you line up the three illustrations, you'll notice that they show the flow of time with changes in the sky. [KH1.5] is sunset becoming night, [KH2.5] is the middle of the night, and [KH2.8] is night breaking into dawn. Those three illustrations have a message regarding the final chapter, [KHIII].
--So you planned all this from the time of [KH1.5]'s release, then?
Nomura: We worried a long time about the package art for [KH2.5], and we worked on trying to connect the three productions in a continual manner. It seems like there were a lot of people who figured out Sora's movements, but there were not very many people who noticed the connection between the skies. There are two meanings to “sora” (I.E. one being the protagonist's name, and the other meaning “sky”).
While it is uncertain what this message is, this is something for fans to think about as we wait for the release of Kingdom Hearts III.
What do you think this hidden message could be? Let us know in the comments below!

Back in December, Tai Yasue, the co-director of the Kingdom Hearts series revealed that both Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX & HD 2.5 ReMIX could make their way to PlayStation 4. However, in an interview with Ruliweb, Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the Kingdom Hearts series has stated there are no plans to do so.
Ruliweb: It's been two years since the first official announcement of Kingdom Hearts 3.
Nomura: Usually, most of the reactions from the KH fans and media consist of "Please put [this world] in the game!" (Laughs) Rather than comments on the game system itself, we get requests for "Put this world in, put my world in!" much more. Whichever world is a popular map should determine whether or not the masses will greatly enjoy Kingdom Hearts 3. Recently, we also received a significant increase in requests for the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix and Kingdom Hearts 2.5 Remix to be released on the PS4. Unfortunately, we don't have any plans for that.
The most likely reason for this appears to be that they do not want to delay Kingdom Hearts III, as both HD 1.5 ReMIX & HD 2.5 ReMIX were both developed by the Kingdom Hearts team for unknown reasons. Tai Yasue stated in the interview linked above that they did not want Kingdom Hearts III delayed. Another likely reason is that the PlayStation 4 requires all games to have digital versions while both HD 1.5 ReMIX & HD 2.5 ReMIX did not on PlayStation 3, likely due to licensing issues.

Today, with the release of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX in Japan, Famitsu Weekly have included a special commemorative article in their October 2, 2014 issue. This article contains a detailed summary of the game, teases both of the new Secret Movies included with Kingdom Hearts Re:coded, and also contains a special interview with the director of the Kingdom Hearts series, Tetsuya Nomura.
In this interview, Nomura has revealed that he hopes to one day tell the story of Birth by Sleep -Volume 2-, when he is given the opportunity. Birth by Sleep -Volume 2- was of course the ending "title card" of the Secret Movie for Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix, leading fans to speculate that this might be a mystery game in the works. However, this movie was released in 2011, and according to Nomura today, "the story was severed and wasn't told".
Read Nomura's full comment below, thanks to KH13 user SkyKeybladeHero for translations.
—Among everything that was included in the FInal Mix version, what would you recommend?
Nomura: The Secret Episode. It's an evolution of all the Secret Movies I've put in the games so far, because it's playable. You can feel the pace of the story and the battle, so I'm glad I made it like that. By the way, the indication for Birth By Sleep -Volume 2- is still there. It shows the existence of Aqua's story in the Realm of Darkness. It means that she didn't just wander about in the Darkness for ten years, but that she passed through many experiences. However, it is a "Fragmentary Passage", as the same suggests-- that story was severed and wasn't told. I hope I can tell it when given the opportunity.

Nomura talks Kingdom Hearts III, new outfits for Sora & Riku, link with KHχ, KH3D being considered & more
The latest issue of Famitsu Weekly, releasing on Thursday, September 25, 2014, is to include an article about Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX, containing an interview with the director of the Kingdom Hearts series, Tetsuya Nomura.
A summary of this interview has appeared online, and it covers Kingdom Hearts III, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts χ[chi]. Some of the major points from this interview include that Kingdom Hearts III's development is on schedule, new outfits for Sora and Riku have been designed, that Kingdom Hearts III will link closely with Kingdom Hearts χ[chi], among many other things.
Thanks to hokanko-alt for the original interview summary, and to translator goldpanner for translating everything into English, you can read it below.
This is a pre-release special feature including a review of all currently known info, play impressions, and an interview with director Tetsuya Nomura.
KH2.5 parts aside:
- when asked if reports that KH3 co-director Yasue spoke about Frozen overseas were incorrect, apparently not giving a clear yes or no meant that overseas some took it as fact
- choosing what to say you want to do as a new world for KH3 or at some other point in the future is difficult, they are highly passionate
- the conversation between the mystery pair is even longer, over 2 minutes
- Between KH2.5 and KH3 they want to leave the least possible time for fans who understand the developments of KHχ to get separated
- The scenarios of KHχ and KH3 are closely related, and are currently being written simultaneously
- They don't want to leave KH3D out all by itself, so they are considering key things
- KH3 is moving along steadily and according to plan
- They are having issues creating the images because of the engine, but they are writing the scenario and selecting worlds
- Sora and Riku etc's new clothes have been drawn up
- The Osaka team said Sora's mobility was too high and he felt invincible (in his final stages of growth)
- Keyblade transformation/shape variations are turning out amazing
- They have various other projects outside of KH3, but thanks to all the offers coming currently they are going to respond to it first
- They plan to publish Nomura comments in the next issue too
Update: Kotaku have also published a summary of the article, you can read it below.
Square Enix recently revealed that Tetsuya Nomura is no longer helming Final Fantasy XV. Now he can work on getting Kingdom Hearts III out quickly.
"We're regularly meeting schedule deadlines." Nomura said in an interview with Weekly Famitsu. "Unfortunately, due to the engine, there are areas on the visual side where we're struggling."
Talking about the Kingdom Hearts III intro teaser that is included with Kingdom Hearts II.5 HD ReMIX, Nomura said, "When we showed the gameplay demo, we received the fan feedback and I felt a lot of anticipation was directed at Kingdom Hearts III. At present we can't really show more, but I wanted to send out some sort of message [to the fans]." Nomura also added, "I also wanted to show people that [Kingdom Hearts III] is going to start from a place they won't expect."
Nomura couldn't specify exactly how far along development Kingdom Hearts III is, but he did note: "I'm currently writing the scenario and selecting worlds. I'm also designing new outfits for Sora and Riku." That kind of gives you a general idea.
In regards to the change in directors for Final Fantasy XV, Nomura stated, "It was a company decision. That's all I can say about it right now."

Dengeki Online have posted the first review for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX, which releases in Japan on October 2, 2014. In this review, it is revealed that the Kingdom Hearts Re:coded HD Cinematic Videos will contain an all-new secret movie. Kingdom Hearts Re:coded on the Nintendo DS already contained a secret movie leading up to Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, but in the HD collection, if you look at all of the cutscenes, a *second* secret movie will be unlocked, said to be completely new and a must-see for fans!
Square Enix have updated the official Japanese website for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX with a page to share these reviews.
Translator goldpanner has completely translated this portion of the review, and with a big thanks to her, it can be seen below.
In the DS version of Kingdom Hearts Re:coded there was a secret movie that was a pull towards KH 3D [Dream Drop Distance], which is of course included in this title too. Furthermore, and this is between you and us, but if you look at all the cutscenes you'll see there's a second secret movie... It's a completely new cutscene of content that's a must-see for fans, so please check it out with your own two eyes!

Tetsuya Nomura interviewed by Famitsu; Theater Mode for KHFM and new cutscenes for 358/2 Days to be available in the latest KH1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX patch
Kingdom Hearts series' director Tetsuya Nomura was interviewed by Famitsu at the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra - World Tour - concert in Los Angeles. In it, he discusses the concert, the latest trailer for Kingdom Hearts III, and the new patch that will be available for Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX.
The interview seems to confirm a new Theatre Mode made available for Kingdom Hearts Final Mix and new cutscenes for Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days with the latest patch. It also seems to confirm that the Kingdom Hearts III D23 Expo trailer will be longer than the one shown at the LA Orchestra.
UPDATE: English translations for the Famitsu interview are now available. You can view the translated interview below:
Famitsu: The concert was amazing. How was it from the side of the scene?
Nomura: I mentioned it while I was on stage but, the images and the music were made so that they would perfectly fit and I thought it was amazing while I was watching. Also Shimomura became better at playing the piano during the concert in each countries until Los Angeles (laugh). At the final event in Osaka she will be perfect don't you think ? (laugh)
Famitsu: There is a lot of pressure on Shimomura (laugh). Everyone was cheering you when you started your speech.
Nomura: On stage I wanted to speak about the fixes and updates for Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX but I was overwhelmed by the voices of everyone cheering and I forgot what I was supposed to say (sarcastic laugh)
Famitsu: What is the content of the update.
Nomura: The addition of the theater mode for KH and of a few cutscenes in KH 358/2 Days. I wanted to add it sooner but it needed more time and the timing met up with this event.
Famitsu: The reception of the new promotional video was amazing too. Because is didn't seem that there was going to be a trailer or an announcement about Kingdom Hearts III at E3, this was a pleasant surprise for the fan.
Nomura: There is a lot of misunderstanding about it. The choice to show or not to show something is up to the ones making the conferences. We just used the timing of the concert being at the same time as E3 to announce it.
Famitsu: Considering that the information is going really fast during the conference, it seems better to announce it that way for the fans. The battle felt rich with all the Keyblade transformations, there was a lot of action and we could see the different worlds.
Nomura: But this battle scene was only in the Hercules world.
Famitsu: Was it? There was so much thing that I thought it was from various worlds.
Nomura: Also, the next trailer will have a Japanese version and a North american version but the battle scenes were from an actual gameplay footage so we couldn't make them exactly the same. It will look the same but if you compare them you will be able to see the differences. So I would like the core fans to look at both trailers.
Famitsu: At last, the D23 Expo 2017 occur next month.
Nomura: The editing of the D23 trailer is being finalized right now but I think that not only it will be longer than the orchestra trailer, it will also show some new elements that should meet everyone's expectations.
From Famitsu's interview article:
At the end, I also managed to hear a little from Nomura about the information of the D23 announcement. "Seriously ?!" I was so excited in the night of Hollywood. Amazing. Amazing. Absolutely. Yes, definitely a good game.
I'm sorry for assuming of the importance of this information but I obviously can't write this information here. I was only allowed to write the reaction to these revelations and so I wrote it! I'm sorry for being this vague but there is no doubt that the announcement at D23 will be worth it!! At the time of the presentation, there will obviously be a quick announcement on Famitsu.com
Also the details will be in the weekly issue of the Famitsu magazine that will be publish right after the opening of the conference to the public. Please look forward to it!

With less than 1 day remaining until Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX releases in Japan, some people are beginning to get their hands on the game. One user on a Japanese message board, who posted this image of the game as verification (also shown below), has begun to share some very small details concerning new content in the HD collection.
Translations/interpretations are thanks to KH13 user SkyKeybladeHero:
Here are the user's comments about the game:
(At the request of the poster, we have avoided using full quotes. If this is also unsuitable, let us know.)
- The credits contain some scenes from Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance, as well as a scene from the Kingdom Hearts III announcement trailer where Sora is holding the Master Keeper Keyblade.Spoiler
- The user shared these images of the credits, proving their claim:
This is interesting, because in Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX, the credits contained scenes from Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix, Birth by Sleep, and Re:coded-- which, of course, were a big hint towards the games that were included in Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX. Could these scenes be hinting at a HD remaster for Kingdom Hearts 3D?
Update: We originally had spoiler warnings in this article, but we have decided to not consider the game credits to be a spoiler, anymore (since this news is likely going to appear everywhere over the next few months, and be unavoidable). Sorry for any inconvenience!
Update 2: YouTube user なかじまちゃんねる 2nd has uploaded the credits in 1080p. The credits recap Kingdom Hearts 3D and show a short clip from Kingdom Hearts III's announcement trailer. You can view it below.

Shinji Hashimoto discusses Kingdom Hearts at Lucca Comics & Games; Improvements in graphics in Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX for PS4; No "2.9" after Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue; and more
Kingdom Hearts series producer and Final Fantasy series brand manager Shinji Hashimoto was in attendance at a conference at Lucca Comics & Games 2016 in Italy last month. During this conference, Hashimoto was able to discuss and answer questions relating to the upcoming Kingdom Hearts releases.
The translations below have been provided by Aquaberry.
Hashimoto noted that the cinematic movie Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover, present in the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue collection, will fill up a missing space in the Kingdom Hearts timeline and that it will be comprehensible even to those who have not played Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ for smartphone.
He commented on Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-, saying that its story will connect directly to the story that will be presented in Kingdom Hearts III. He also said that the duration of the game will partly depend upon the player's abilities. While it may seem a short game, it has a substantial amount of playable content.
He also noted that there will be no "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" after Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue as "it will proceed directly to [Kingdom Hearts] 3."
Hashimoto discussed Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, saying that the idea for the compilation was due to fans all around the world commenting on the complexity of the plot of the Kingdom Hearts series. The PlayStation 4 release will address this issue by enabling the fans to own the entire collection on the same console. Furthermore, he indicated that the PS4 re-release will contain some differences from the PS3 releases; it will have much better graphics.
Hashimoto was also asked to comment on the legitimacy of the story surrounding the conception of Kingdom Hearts in an accidental meeting in an elevator with a Disney employee who worked in the same building. Hashimoto answered that this is a matter he has been asked about many times. He clarified that while Square were working in the same building as Disney, it was the latter that approached with a proposal for a collaboration that later became the Kingdom Hearts series.
As reported previously, Hashimoto confirmed that Kingdom Hearts HD Dream Drop Distance will be fully translated in Italian and Spanish; this is a novel development as Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance for Nintendo 3DS was not fully localised in these languages. The game, originally intended for two screens, will certainly be playable in one screen on the PS4.
Hashimoto also reminded fans that the Sora DLC for World of Final Fantasy will be available for only a limited time only this winter.
Lastly, Hashimoto reflected on his contentment towards the evolution of the Kingdom Hearts series, saying that he is happy about the success of the series reflected by fans across the world.
A full video of the conference can be viewed below, thanks to GamerClick.it.
