Square Enix has just announced that Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ has exceeded 2 million downloads just under a month since its release in North America.
Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ released on April 7, 2016 in North America and is available to download on iOS and Android devices.

Siliconera recently interviewed with Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ's producer Hironori Okayama. They discuss the development of Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ, what it was like taking the series onto mobile platforms, and more. You can read the full interview below:
How has it's reception for Kingdom Hearts: Unchained X been so far?
Hironori Okayama, Producer: I’m surprised and happy that a lot of users are saying that it’s a really fun game.
You’ve changed from developing PC games for Square Enix to mobile. How does that feel different for you?
First off, just going to a mobile platform – it was thrilling because there’s a lot more users on a mobile platform nowadays. But, as for me, as a producer and game creator, (this is not specific to Kingdom Hearts) I like games that are connected to a network, like an MMO-type game, where you can play with others.
I’ve been making games like that for more than ten years. So, regardless of the platform, whether it be PS4 or smartphones, I continually want to make those types of games.
What were your thoughts in shifting the Kingdom Hearts experience to mobile? How do you make that experience work with that larger possible player base?
Instead of catering to a specific demographic, I thought more about how to incorporate the touchscreen game play within the player's daily lives. That’s how I came up with the different stages. Like, how you clear different stages, which is completely new to Kingdom Hearts.
Kingdom Hearts: Unchained X was planned to be a browser game at one point, but you’ve shifted focus to just mobile. What prompted that change?
It’s just that the mobile game platform has a lot more users now worldwide, and that’s why I wanted to take it over to the mobile platform.
Before I created the prototype of this game, I actually presented it to certain people by putting the PC game into a surface and I cut out a window in a cardboard box to make it as small as a smartphone’s size. Then, I showed it to people – “This is how it will probably feel on a mobile platform.” – and everyone liked that. So, that’s how this project started.
How does it affect your approach to creating game play when it’s being played on a smartphone versus PC/console?
Because it is a mobile game, I tried to design it in a way so that each of the stages don’t take as much time to clear.
When people have to go on the train to go to work or what-not and they haven’t finished and have to get off at a stop, I made it so that you can close the game but go back to it whenever you can. That is also why I went for more of a turn-based kind of game rather than real-time action.
The game play itself, I believe that you can feel that it is still Kingdom Hearts in its essence. It has that kind of action feeling. I believe I was able to get that with this game.
We had heard that you were taking and implementing feedback for the Western audience. What sort of changes were made from that feedback?
One thing is that, right after we created the prototype, we tested the game in the US with American players, and so it was more about getting feedback from the US players, or US audience, and then adjust the game from there to release in Japan and in America later on.
The greatest change might be the medals, actually. In the PC browser game, it used to be cards. We received feedback that cards would probably be a bit too geeky for a mobile game. Given that feedback, we thought about what we could do to make it a little bit different and not use cards.
What we ended up with was medals, and when I saw the cool medals that were created for the game, I was very happy because I thought “This is it.”.
The feedback we got was when users explained the game to people – to tell people that it’s fun – when they say that it’s a card game, some people might get put off by that. That’s the type of feedback that I got, so that’s why I decided to do away with the cards.
I love trading card games, though.
What got you excited to work with the Kingdom Hearts franchise?
It might be just to work with Disney for the first time.
When I brought the prototype to America to do the first test play, Disney was kind enough to take me to one of their animation studios, and I felt “Oh, this is great!”.
What was it like to work with Disney? Was it fun? Challenging in any way?
It is both fun and challenging. The Kingdom Hearts series is definitely a title where Disney and Square Enix all really discuss with each other to make the best game that we can. It is a very cherished title for both of the companies, so they always discuss how to improve the quality of the game with each other.
Did the other Kingdom Hearts team members have any suggestions on things they wanted to add to the game?
Everyone on this Unchained X project, aside from myself, has always been working with Kingdom Hearts, so they’re veterans in the series. So, rather than them giving me advice or suggestions, it was more like we were working together as a team.
I feel that it was probably the avatar system – where you could create your own avatar – that is definitely a first in the series.
How did that come about? The story in Kingdom Hearts is focused on very specific characters. Now, to tell a story in the past but leave those characters out seems like a big decision.
For the story, or how the game plays, or how the characters appear, they’re all being discussed by Tetsuya Nomura, and he did think through it. So, rather than a big decision point, it was more like a natural thing for them to decide to do. And, for fans of the Kingdom Hearts series, they’ll definitely see how it will lead up to the Kingdom Hearts series.
Right now, at least, no one has really gotten into the depth of that story with Unchained X, but it will lead you to understand how it ended up like that. We’ll definitely be constantly updating the story in Unchained X, and so I would love for everyone to look forward to seeing how that rolls out within the game.
Does working in the Kingdom Hearts series’ past give a lot of freedom to do what you like with story and game play?
So, aside from the story, which I didn’t really work on so I can’t talk about that, but the game system, at least, because it is the first game (in the Kingdom Hearts narrative history), I was really able to work pretty freely to create the game’s systems and concept behind it. There are a couple of things that I have to follow, but I was able to do things pretty freely.
What are you most proud of that you’ve done with this game?
If you defeat the enemy before you finish up using all of your medals – pretty much before the enemy strikes back – you’ll get a reward called a ‘One Turn Triumph’. To get that objective cleared, you really have to strategize and figure out which medals you want to use because, obviously, it gets more difficult as you play. I really like that in the game because it adds a puzzle element. It adds a lot of depth to the game.
Kingdom Hearts: Unchained X is supposed to connect to Kingdom Hearts 3. How does a game in the far past connect to this one in the future?
I actually want to know, too! I feel that if you play Unchained X, as well as the other titles, then you will realize what the connections are, but that’s all I can say at this moment.
Will the answers become clearer as you issue story updates to the game?
I wouldn’t say that everything will become clear, but there will be some things that will be revealed through this game. I am also looking forward to the future stories in this game.
Will any characters like Chirithy or others from this game show up in later titles?
I am not working on other titles, so I can’t say.
Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover will be a part of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8. Will players be missing out on anything by not playing the mobile game themselves?
The story is written in a different perspective in Unchained X than 2.8 Back Cover. Unchained X is written from a player’s point of view, whereas Back Cover is written from the Foretellers’ point of view. So, they are from the same story, but from different perspectives.
I would love for everyone to try to take a look at both.
What is your favorite character from the series?
Because he’s the most interesting.
What’s the plan for you next, in this game and as a developer? Will you keep working on new story elements for Unchained X?
As far as Unchained X, I would love to keep on creating new elements to it as long as it’s popular. I’m also working on other titles as a producer.
My team members, they all really like to create new things and so they will all definitely want to pursue making more new elements to the game going forward. As well as the story, of course. I’d also like to do more collaborations with Disney like they did in Japan for Zootopia moving forward.

For a limited time, those playing the North American version of Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ can obtain outfits and medals inspired by the latest Disney animated movie, Zootopia.
From 5/2 - 5/15, a new Event quest has been added. Simply go to Menu -> Quests -> Events to access this new event. The quest involves defeating the Queen Bee Raid Boss for event coins which you can then spend to unlock Zootopia snuggly accessories. They have also included a Raid Bonus Time; Every day during the duration of the event, from 7:00pm - 8:59pm PST, the appearance rate of the raid boss doubles, the AP cost of the quest is halved, and the Lux rewards for defeating the raid boss is doubled.
Also from 5/2 - 5/15, two new avatar boards can be purchased for 3000 jewels each. The avatar boards are used to unlock Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde outfits, as well as new Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde medals.The boards can be purchased only between 5/2 and 5/15 but they will remain after the event if you purchase them.Obviously, as you would expect, the Nick Wilde avatar board grants the Nick Wilde medal, and the Judy Hopps board grants the Judy Hopps medal.

Square Enix has just announced that rankings in Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ have been suspended due to the recent hacking issues in the game. As the suspension is carried on for rankings, they are working to resolve the hacker issue, and handing out disciplinary action on those who have hacked the game. Interview with Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ producer Hironori Okayama by The Koalition at PAX East 2016
While at PAX East 2016 last week, Senior Editor of The Koalition, Jakejames Lugo, was able to sit down and have a little chat with Hironori Okayama, the producer of Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ. Okayama discussed gameplay features, such as how he drew inspiration from other Kingdom Hearts games, the reasoning behind creating a turn-based battle system, and the process behind designing medals. He also mentioned wanting to implement real-time multiplayer battles over the current individual raid boss fights with shared HP reductions and rewards. Following up on Gamer Escape's interview also at PAX East 2016, Okayama reiterated that the game was created based on North American user feedback. He plans to use results from future user surveys to identify areas of demand in order to implement further changes. Okayama also pointed out that there are completion bonuses in the game that might yet have to be discovered.

This video features the development team working on animations of Heartless as well as making final touches to some of the outfits you can unlock through Avatar Boards, various gameplay demos, and a group of players enjoying the game on their phones.

Interview with Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ Producer Hironori Okayama at PAX East includes content release schedule
Gamer Escape was present at PAX East 2016 this week, and caught up with Hironori Okayama, the producer of Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ. In the interview, he stated that the North American version of the game will receive 50 new missions per month, and made an announcement that the promotional Zootopia medals recently released in Japan are planned for release in the North American version of the game on May 2nd. Okayama also discussed the choices made when Kingdom Hearts χ was being remade for mobile devices, how the team decides which medals to make, and the release of future content for both versions of the game.

Gamer Escape: Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ started out as a web browser game when it was released in Japan in 2013. Were there any big changes to the game when it made the move over to mobile devices?
Okayama: The game is actually completely different from the browser version. We decided to bring it to the mobile devices because there are a lot more users on smartphone devices now. I wanted as many people as possible to be able to play the game. The way that you want people to play the game would be different going from a computer screen to a smartphone touch screen and so we had to create the rules from the ground up for the mobile version.
Gamer Escape: More and more games are releasing globally these days, was there any reason why the game launched first in Japan before arriving in North America?
Okayama: People might think “aw Japan first again?” But our prototype was actually in English first. We brought it to the States to do a user test in America and that’s how we tested and built up the game. Now, the reason it released in Japan first well, we’re a Japanese team and so it was a lot faster to create that version first. But the prototype was in English so we always had the mentality of releasing in America.
Gamer Escape: As new content is released, is that global? or will it be similarly staged?
Okayama: One characteristic of a Kingdom Hearts game is that it has a really deep story. When you think about having the correct nuance in English, and we have an on-going discussion with Disney all the time – but if we have to do English and Japanese at the same time it would decrease the speed that the content would come out with and I don’t want that to happen as much as possible. I’d like to release it as simultaneously as possible, but there could be delays when it comes to story content.
Gamer Escape: Why did you decide on a game that’s free to download with micro-transactions instead of a game that you would pay once for?
Okayama: One big role that Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ has is to have players who have never touched Kingdom Hearts before to get into the series and now Kingdom Hearts. When I looked at the users on the mobile platform, the most popular monetization system was the Free to Play. So it was pretty much one choice for me.
Gamer Escape: What kind of end-game content is there in the game?
Okayama: As far as the main story line goes, there’s not really any end-content to it because it will be constantly updated. There are two things on the development side we consider end content. One is the Coliseum – which we used to call the infinite coliseum internally – but you figure out how high of a level you can challenge and it resets every month, but you challenge yourself to see how far you can get each month. The other is the raid boss that appears in the tutorial. The raid bosses you’d like to try and kill with party members because it gets stronger and stronger as you defeat it. This resets every month as well, and it can go up to level 99. So trying to defeat those raid bosses and gaining more experience points or “looks” as well call them, to raise your party ranking, that’s what we want people to enjoy as end content.
Gamer Escape: Was there a process for determining the characters that appeared on the medals?
Okayama: When we decide medals, the battle system comes first when we think about it. We think about what kind of skills are necessary to move through the story and quests and we decide which character might fit the kind of action or skills they want so it’s a bit of a reversed way of looking at it. For Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ, we made it in a way so that any character that has appeared in the Kingdom Hearts series can still fit into this world. We hear alot from the medal team that they don’t know which character to use next because of how many there are to choose from.
Gamer Escape: Is there a lot of interaction with Disney for that at all?
Okayama: It’s a long running series and so we’ve always been in talks with Disney. It’s nothing new when it comes to this title.
Gamer Escape: Will we see any more worlds added in future updates?
Okayama: In regards to the stages in the quests, we do plan to release at minimum, 50 stages per month. There will also be seasonal events as well. As far as the worlds go, it is a Kingdom Hearts game so we do plan to maybe add more but we have nothing concrete now. It is very difficult to create a new world.
Gamer Escape: I saw online last week that new medals would be making their way into the Japanese version of the game for Zootopia. Is that something that North American players can expect to see?
Okayama: May 2nd.
Gamer Escape: That was a lot more specific of an answer than I thought we would get!
Okayama: We haven’t told anyone else yet. We do plan to release it on May 2nd, of course it is subject to change.
Gamer Escape: How many stages are there right now?
Okayama: It’s around 250 right now.
Gamer Escape: We have a lot to go then. How many quests are in the Japanese version right now?
Okayama: It’s 500 right now in Japan.
Gamer Escape: Is there anything you're excited for or something you’d like to share with our readers?
Okayama: There are actually hidden Mickeys in the stages that you can look for.
Gamer Escape: Like the shape?
Okayama: Yes, it might be very difficult to find them but they are in there. They’re not in every stage though.

First Story Update coming to NA version of Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ on April 21st, another update coming in early May
At 2 AM PDT on April 21st, 50 new story quests will be added to the North American version of Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ as announced by the official Twitter and Facebook pages. This update will focus on quests taking place in Wonderland as well as Daybreak Town.
The official Kingdom Hearts Facebook page also announced that more quests will be added in early May with even more content to follow soon after that.

The North American Square Enix Store has added a listing for a Chirithy plush to their website, following the announcement of the Chirithy plush for the Japanese Square Enix Store last month. The Chirithy plush is currently up for pre-order with a limit of one per customer and is expected to ship towards the end of August 2016.

Square Enix have announced their properties that will appear at the upcoming PAX East 2016 convention, and among these titles is Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ. Square Enix claims that Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ will have a "hands-on" presence at their booth (#4044), so it is unclear whether or not announcements for future updates to the game will be made at the event. PAX East 2016 is being held in Boston, MA from April 22-24, and badges necessary to attend the event are currently sold out.
Update: The Square Enix Booth at PAX East 2016 will be handing out Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ posters featuring the line "Have you heard of the Ancient Keyblade War?" from Kingdom Hearts III to attendees who play their demo of Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ!

Update: Now that Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ is out in full swing, the Official KH13 party has decided to have slight member purges for users who contribute very little to the party. As the weekly union rankings come in, we will be removing the bottom 3 players (in terms of Lux collected) and recruiting new people to join the party. That is not to say that if you have been in the party and got removed that you can't join again. If you show improvement, we will gladly add you back! That said, we are now looking to fill 7 spots in our party! We would like to have people of higher levels/Lux collection! Just leave a screenshot of your character in the comments!

We hope everyone is enjoying Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ, which released on April 7th! The staff of KH13 have decided to open up an official party for the entire KH13 community - especially people who wish to seriously compete for a top spot in the leaderboards! This is the perfect opportunity to play with other members of the site! However, there are a few restrictions:
- We have chosen the Vulpes union! That means that, in order to join our party, you must be in the Vulpes union. In order to change unions, tap Menu -> Other -> Switch Unions.
- There are a limited number of spaces available (max 30) so this will be a bit competitive.
- We are genuinely aiming to reach the top of the leaderboards, so please be serious in achieving this as well.

Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ is now available in Google Play for North American users. Though the download is region locked, it takes just a few steps to download the app from outside of North America. Please follow the instructions listed below:
- Enable installing APKs (Android app install files) from outside of the Google Play Store. To do this, go to the "Settings" app, scroll down to "Security", and tick "Unknown sources". Click OK on the popup alert.
- On your Android device, go to http://www.apkpure.c...ee-apk-download, and in the text field input com.square_enix.android_googleplay.khuxww
- The APK file should now download! When the download is complete, open the file and click "Install". After this installs, you are done!

Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ is now available in the North American App Store for iOS! Though the download is exclusive to customers with a North American Apple ID, it takes just a few steps to download the app from outside of North America.
- Open the "App Store" and scroll down to the bottom of the "Featured" page, and then click your "Apple ID" and click "View Apple ID."
- Click "Country/Region" and then "Change Country or Region." From here scroll down to the bottom of the list, click the option that says “United States" and hit next.
- Agree with the "Terms and Conditions" and then click cancel in the top left.
- Click on your Apple ID again, and select "Sign Out".
- Find the app in the "Search" tab or click here on your device.
- Click "Get" and then it will ask you to sign in. Click the "Create New Apple ID" option and choose to register with a new e-mail address that is not attached to any Apple accounts yet.
- When it asks for you to fill out info you need to be sure to have "None" checked in payment options. The rest of the information can be whatever you wish except for the "Postal Code." This needs to be an official code and we used "27613." Your phone number can be your own, as well.
- Agree with everything and finish the account setup. Now you should be able to enter your passcode and start installing the game!

Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ is approximately 1.1 GB, with about 700 MB required after installation.

KINGDOM HEARTS Unchained χ falls into the earliest part of the KINGDOM HEARTS series chronology, and it is also the story of new beginnings. The main story may progress slowly, but part of the narrative experience is to take the time to tangibly feel other players existing in the same world as you do. By unraveling the mystery behind the era of “fairytales”, and experiencing the truth leading up to the Keyblade War, we believe players will be able to enjoy KINGDOM HEARTS II.8 even more, which is expected to launch this year. And it goes without saying that it will link not only to KINGDOM HEARTS III, but also to what lies beyond.
The gameplay will be much different from what you may be used to in previous KINGDOM HEARTS titles; in this game, the players would aim for a “one-turn triumph” which focuses on providing players with an exhilarating gameplay experience in a short amount of time on a smartphone. The battle mechanics were designed by the main programmer of The World Ends With You and the Co-director of KINGDOM HEARTS Unchained χ, Hiroyuki Ito, so if you’ve ever played The World Ends With You, you can expect a similar kind of enjoyment there as well. While we have various elements included, such as collecting and strengthening medals, avatars with a broad range of customization, communication between party members, a ranking system and much more, it is also a game that feels right at home within the KINGDOM HEARTS franchise.
We hope KINGDOM HEARTS fans can dive into the world of KINGDOM HEARTS not only through this title, but through the upcoming titles, KINGDOM HEARTS HD II.8 Final Chapter Prologue and KINGDOM HEARTS III. At the same time, as an origins story, there are many elements in the game that new players can enjoy, and the game can also be easily picked up and played, so players in Japan are enjoying the game even if they’ve never experienced the KINGDOM HEARTS series before. Pre-registration for North American version of Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ is now open in the Google Play store. The size of the download will be 1.1 GB.
The Google Play store features a few screenshots of the game, including a first look at new outfits based on Disney's latest film Zootopia.

As of April 4th, 2016, when we learned of the North American release date for Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ, the official Kingdom Hearts website has updated to promote the release. A large reminder of the April 7th, 2016 release date appears at the top of the page above a link to the Kingdom Hearts Facebook post of the announcement. Lastly, the site includes the announcement trailer that was first shown at E3 2015.
As of right now, there is nothing more to view on the official site, but it may update again once the game is released.

Square Enix has announced that Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ is coming to North America on April 7th, 2016. The game will be released on iOS and Android. In addition, a new Twitter account was made for the North American version of the game where they will release updates and news. You can follow this Twitter account here. The blog also includes a commemorative drawing from series director Tetsuya Nomura, as well as an interview about the game's ties to the series, both of which you can view below:
1) Please explain where in the KH series the story takes place.
This is the story of the “beginning” of the KINGDOM HEARTS series; in other words, it falls into the earliest part of the narrative. It takes place in the world of fairy tales talked about throughout the series, during an era before the Keyblade War. There are many different keyblade wielders in the world, and you, the player, are one of them.
2) How does Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ relate to the upcoming Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue?
All three titles within KINGDOM HEARTS Ⅱ.8 has a link to KINGDOM HEARTS Unchained χ in some way. You can see it most prominently shown in KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover – a brand-new, approximately one-hour long cinematic piece, which is depicted from the perspective the Foretellers, who gather the Keyblade Wielders. On the flip side, KINGDOM HEARTS Unchained χ is seen from the player’s perspective. By watching KINGDOM HEARTS χ Back Cover, the player will be able to get a glimpse of what kind of motive these supposed leaders are operating under behind the scenes.
And in KINGDOM HEARTS Dream Drop Distance HD, which is the HD remastered version of the Nintendo 3DS game KINGDOM HEARTS 3D: Dream Drop Distance, you may noticed the Dream Eaters were a sort of foreshadowing. And the title that would act as a bridge between these two titles would be the latest installment in the series, KINGDOM HEARTS 0.2 Birth By Sleep, which is developed utilizing the technology behind KINGDOM HEARTSⅢ. It is a sequel to KINGDOM HEARTS: Birth By Sleep, and a short episode that follows immediately after the events of KINGDOM HEARTS Dream Drop Distance HD, but it’s a title in which players can get an early feel for KINGDOM HEARTSⅢ.
3) You mentioned this before at E3 2015, but what was the inspiration behind the character Chirithy?
When we realized we needed some kind of character that navigates the players due to the nature of the game, I didn’t want a character that’s too self-asserting considering that they would accompany the players throughout the journey. Once that idea got rolling, then I thought a cat would be great, since you can’t tell what it’s thinking, but can still get along fairly easily with humans, so I went with my favorite, the Scottish Fold as my motif.
I liked the Meow Wow from KINGDOM HEARTS 3D: Dream Drop Distance, too, but I designed the eyes the way I did to make sure you do not get a sense of it being self-asserting. Some people might have the wrong perception that because I own Scottish Fold cats, I modelled the character after them, but it’s actually the other way around; a while after we began developing, I started to own two Scottish Folds. By the way, their names are not Chirithy.
4) Aside from characters and world that appeared in the Kingdom Hearts series, what are some new characters and worlds that are unique only to Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ?
The game is currently progressing under a certain rule, so the only brand-new world would be “Daybreak Town,” the home town in which the players first start out, but there may be a possibility [of other worlds] should we continue providing service through the app.
In terms of new characters, there are not only the five Foretellers and Chirithy, but there are also key new characters named Ephemera and Skuld that appear and move the story.
5) What aspect of the game do you think will appeal to fans? What do you think fans will get hooked on? (i.e. collecting medals, events, etc.)
One of the biggest pillars would be the sense of playing live, which is very different for existing KINGDOM HEARTS series titles thus far. You may have communication and cooperation, as well as the occasional competition, but the sensation of going somewhere and realizing there are people there and the world is moving is very unique to this particular KINGDOM HEARTS.
Along those lines, various events are being held frequently depending on the occasion, the medal collection element is key to your battles, we also offer a ranking element, and a unique story told only in this KINGDOM HEARTS, so I’m sure there is some kind of element that would pique your interest.
6) What kind of costumes are included in the game? Is there a particular costume of a character that you particularly love?
There are so many different costumes already; of course you have the original designs, then Disney characters, KINGDOM HEARTS characters, and seasonal/special occasion designs, all for both male and female avatars respectively. Plus, you can mix and match the outfit elements, so I think the players can really bring out their individuality.
From what I’ve seen, the hairstyle of the KINGDOM HEARTS 3D: Dream Drop Distance version of “The World Ends with You” Neku matched up with the black coat of Organization XIII seem to be popular. Also, the KINGDOM HEARTS version of FINAL FANTASY VII Cloud costume and King Mickey’s costume are popular as well. If I were to choose, personally, I’d like the Cheshire Cat costume.
7) Do you have a special message for the fans?
As mentioned in the beginning, this is the story of the start of KINGDOM HEARTS. In other words, there is no need for any prior knowledge of the series.
I would love for people who have not yet played KINGDOM HEARTS to take this opportunity to casually jump right in with a blank slate. And of course for our fans, you can approach and play this KINGDOM HEARTS in any way you like, so through collecting medals of your favorite characters, collecting costumes, and moreover becoming a part of the KINGDOM HEARTS world and experiencing the enjoyment of weaving your own story that leads to one of the biggest mysteries in the series, which is the “Keyblade War,” I hope you can further enjoy the upcoming release of KINGDOM HEARTS Ⅱ.8 and KINGDOM HEARTS Ⅲ, as well as the KINGDOM HEARTS that will continue beyond that.
Thus far there has been no mention of when Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ will release in other regions. We will provide updates as soon as they become available.

Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ updated to Version 1.2.0 on 30 March 2016, focusing heavily on UI updates and changes based on fan responses to the questionnaire published in late February. Major updates include changing the layout of the Quest screen, the introduction of "Skip Tickets" which allow a player to bypass a difficult mission, and finally patching the bug that allowed the buff medal “Kairi KH Version”'s ability to last beyond the allotted time.
Current players will be given 10 Skip Tickets, which will allow a player to automatically clear the mission and will clear all 3 Mission Challenges as well.
Players must install the update from either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. For iOS, you'll simply need to log in with your Japanese Apple ID within the Apple App Store and download the update from there. For Android users, please follow this guide.

-Enemies have been made easier to select, by preventing them from overlapping
-The Target Enemy's HP gauge is highlighted, making it easier to see in battle
-Enemies with more HP than can be displayed will show how many additional HP bars they have
-Enemies who are weak to your current medal's attribute will now be indicated
-The name of skills will now be shown inside the Deck Info during quests
-Other minor adjustments
-The Keyblade you last used will now be the first one to appear when selecting a new quest
-When leveling up a Keyblade, the amount of material needed and amount of material currently in your possession have been clarified
-On the medal synthesis result screen, the increases to each parameter will now be distinctly indicated
-Medals which will not improve a medal will be prevented from being used in synthesis (to prevent inadvertent loss of medals) (e.g. if a medal has already had 10 Cid medals synthesized onto it, all Cids in your inventory will become greyed out)
-In the quest selection screen, if you exit out of selecting a Partner medal, you will be returned to Keyblade selection (rather than quest selection)
-The attack power and synthesis orbs/Guilt of partner medals are now visible at a glance
-Raid Bosses will appear in the Main Quest selection screen, and Scrooge skill increases will be displayed in the Raid Boss reward screens
-Medals can now display their ability strength in the reordering menu
-The Medal Display filters now include Upright/Reverse filters
-Filters for 'Equippable' and 'Big EXP' have also been added
-Other minor adjustments
System Modifications and Additions:
-The attack power of Partner Medals has been improved, depending on the strength of your Keyblade
-You can now invite players into your party when viewing their avatar
-Improved the UI when a party member requires assistance with a Raid Boss; a banner now appears at the top of all screens when a Raid Boss is active.
-Only members of your party will now be allowed to assist in defeating your Raid Bosses.
-When using a 'Skip Ticket', all Quest Challenges will be cleared
-Skip Tickets will be awarded in addition to purchasing Jewels.
-The Friend Point Draw has been removed
-Event Quests and Daily Dungeons have been separated into distinct categories
-The Quest screen now has separate areas for the Main Quest, Daily Dungeons, Event Quests, and the Coliseum
-Because of this, the Event and Coliseum buttons have been removed from the Main Quest screen
-Access to Daily Dungeons and Event Quests must be unlocked through playing the Main Quest. (Clear Main Quest Mission 6 to access the Daily Quests, and Main Quest Mission 14 to access Event Quests.)
-Daily Dungeons and Premium Dungeons will all be displayed, but in a 'locked' state when they are inaccessible (e.g. when it is the wrong day of the week).
-An additional button linking to the Weekly Bonus Jewel pack has been placed on the Shop and Daily Dungeon screens.
-If you have not purchased the Weekly Bonus Jewel pack, a pop-up advertisement will appear on the Home screen.
-“X-turn finish!” will only appear in the case of a 1-turn finish (completion in 2 turns will just show 'Win' and the Lux earned)
-Changes to the opening tutorial
-Other minor adjustments, including to the featured Event
-Bug with multiple skills leveling up not being displayed has been fixed
-Clearing the latest main quest will now correctly display 'CLEAR!'
-The 'unspecified' category in the Avatar Board has been fixed
-Materials acquired in Beast's Castle will now be properly displayed
-Enemies killed via Poison will now disappear correctly
-After Continuing, medals which had been set in the first slot will now have their abilities effect applied correctly
-Problems with the app force closing in the medal organization screen has been addressed
-A bug when scrolling to the left in the Avatar Board selection menu has been addressed, which caused the display to read '0/0'
-A bug which resulted in the total Attack power of a Keyblade not matching the sum of the medals equipped has been addressed
-The bug which resulted in '1 Lux' displaying in the rewards screen after earning a large amount of Lux has been fixed
-A bug which appeared when parts of a Raid Boss were destroyed in an Area of Effect attack regarding the HP gauge display has been fixed
-The EXP a medal will gain when synthesized will now display properly
-When using filters to sort the Main Quests, sometimes the cursor would not move if the next quest was already cleared. This bug has been fixed
-The ability for “Cloud Illustrated Version” now displays correctly
-A bug regarding the Paralysis status effect and using Abilities causing later medals to be skipped automatically has been fixed
-A bug involving empty Keyblade slots and tap attacks against Raid Bosses has been addressed
-The 'Reset' ability for “Alice” will now correctly function when used against Raid Boss limbs
-The bug involving “Kairi KH Version”'s buff not ending at the proper time due to combinations with other medals has been fixed
-A bug involving empty HP bars on Raid Boss limbs has been addressed
-The bug wherein using an Ability against a densely packed array of enemies resulted in the next medal's attack being automatically executed has been fixed
-A bug involving the background music of the Quest selection incorrect when logging in to fight a Raid Boss after the timer had expired has been addressed
-A bug relating to canceling a Union change has been addressed
-Other minor bug fixes
-Level cap has been raised to 300

Update: The release for the Chirithy plush has been moved up to June 11th, 2016. Additionally, the plush is available for pre-order on the Square Enix online store, and the price has dropped from 5,940 yen ($52.13) to 5,670 yen ($49.91).
The plush is also listed on Amazon Japan for pre-order. The amazon listing has the dimensions of the plush:
Body size: width of about 195mm × depth 160mm × height 240mm, weight: about 270g

Back in December of 2015, a Chirithy plush was revealed during Jump Festa 2016, where Kingdom Hearts made a big appearance with a special trailer on Kingdom Hearts III and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. Thanks to Twitter user @aibo_ac7, we now know that the Chirithy plush will release on June 30th, 2016 in Japan.
The price is 5,940 yen, which is about $52.13 USD.

From February 24th until March 3rd, people currently playing the Japanese version of Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ can participate in a survey being conducted by Square Enix. The survey asks questions about your experience playing the game, what you feel could be improved, and what medals you would like to see in the future. Upon completion of the survey, players will receive 600 jewels to be used in-game. Also during this time, all AP costs for missions will be halved.

Pre-orders for new goods opened up in the Square Enix store today, including a collection of Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ mobile phone cases. The three iPhone 6 cases feature gold and silver motifs, and will ship on March 5th. The cost for one is 4,100 Yen, or about $35 USD. This is the latest piece of Unchained χ merchandise, after the Chirithy plush previously shown at Jump FESTA 2016. You can check out the cases below:

It's been over a month since the Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ commercial launched in Japan, and it seems that the commercial has aired not just on television, but even at Japanese Train Stations. Twitter users @mas402 and @sawa3056 were able to capture footage from a Japanese Train Station on the Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ advertisement which you can check out below.
Even though no news on the English release has been provided yet, we can expect to see more news in the upcoming months in 2016 for Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ and it's English release. As Jump Festa 2016 went on from December 19th through the 20th in Japan (18th through 19th in the U.S.), an all new (never before seen) Chirithy plush was displayed for attendees to see. For those of you who don't know who Chirithy is, Chirithy is the cat-like dream eater in Kingdom Hearts χ[chi] and Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ who guides the player through the game as they advance through the story. Multiple pictures of the new Chirithy plush were taken from Jump Festa and can be seen below.

Daily Quest Updates
Huey, Dewey and Louie medals will now drop more often in the Premium Quests.
Adamant Challenge has been added! Boost your Keyblades to +21!
Upright and Reverse Medal Slots have been added to each Keyblade at +21! In addition to Power/Speed/Magic alignment, these slots will grant various boosts to Upright or Reverse Medals.
(In the example image shown above, Slot 1 grants a x1.40 bonus to Magic medals, but if the medal is both Magic and Upright, it is a x1.60 bonus.)
Upon completing the main quest and obtaining the 'Strength Bangle', orbing a 6* medal will have a chance to boost it's power even further. This is your medal's Guilt bonus. This Guilt bonus may boost further at random when the medal is used.
Performance optimization should reduce the number of time-out errors.
Various UI updates, tutorial updates, bug fixes and help page updates have been implemented.
