    As we approach the Japanese release of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, some lucky fans have already received an early copy of the game. With the release of some early copies, some have already completed the game.     Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura has been interviewed by Famitsu in their January 26th edition, which will be available January 12th. In this interview, Nomura talks about Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue along with Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy VII Remake.

  5. PlayStation Japan Blog features Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover details and new screenshots

    Shortly following their post on Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A Fragmentary Passage-, PlayStation Japan's blog has posted another feature, this time focusing on Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover, the cinematic component of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. Thank you to aibo_ac7 for the tip!

    This new blog post features small blurbs about the cinematic itself, traits about the characters that appear throughout the cinematic, as well as a few new screenshots.     The world and characters of the theatrical production [KH X Back Cover] close in on the series' mysteries (3rd special/Dengeki PS)

    [Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue] will appear on the PlayStation 4 as the series' newest release. This time, we'll check out one of the three productions in this package, the theatrical production [Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover (hereon KHXBC)]! This special edition of Dengeki PlayStation will cover the happenings of the oldest tale in the series.

    [KHXBC] is an all-new theatrical production that runs a little less than an hour. By checking out the world and characters, we should be able to understand the story more deeply. There are all kinds of developments to keep pulling in the interest of the series' fans!

    The series' oldest tale tells of the “back side”

    The story of [KHXBC] is the story of what happened the in furthest point back in the [KH] series. It tells the story of the other side of the events of [KH Unchained X], a smart phone app that started September 2015. You can enjoy this product on its own, too, but it's no mistake to say that those who have played [KH Unchained X] will find it more interesting.

    The setting is a town that exists someplace in the worlds, “Daybreak Town.” It will become clear as to what kind of people the “Foretellers”--the characters that guide the player in [KH Unchained X]--are, and what they're planning to do...

    A story full of mystery will unfold with the Master and his apprentices!

    The axes of this story are the six Foretellers under the powerful “Master of Masters.” Each of them received a Book of Prophecies, and the five Foretellers who come to run Unions are the main characters. Here, we'll take a more detailed look as to each of the characters.


    The Foreteller who bears a unicorn mask and leads the Unicornis union. He has a reliable personality, and is often teased by the Master for being too serious.



    The Foreteller who bears a snake mask and leads the Anguis union. She has a noble personality and holds great faith in the Master.


    <If that's so, then what about you!?>

    The Foreteller who wears a bear mask and leads the Ursus union. He has a daring personality, but he can be too frank with his feelings and gets reckless.


    <I want to protect the Master's teachings.>

    The Foreteller who bears a fox mask and leads the Vulpeus union. She has a cautious personality, and it seems that other Keyblade wielders speak of her as a friend.


    <Eh? This is a page of the Book of Prophecies, is it not?>

    The Foreteller who wears a leopard mask and leads the Leopardus union. He has a collected personality, and it seems he does not have any feelings of fellowship toward the other Foretellers.


    <With a heart that follows the key...>

    One of the six apprentices of the Master. He is the only one not to receive a Book of Prophecies, but instead, he was entrusted with a Keyblade and a black cloak.

    <Whoever the traitor might be, deal with it calmly, all right?>

    A mysterious being who has six apprentices. He has eyes that can see the future, and in his grief of the future, he gave five of his apprentices Books of Prophecies and a mission.

    <Cheer up, okay?>

    A Keyblade wielder. He's sociable and doesn't fear much, and even toward the Foretellers, this bright young man speaks in a carefree way.

    There's a traitor amongst the Foretellers!?

    The Foretellers received the Book of Prophecies and a mission from the Master, and they act based on his teachings. However, a fissure appeared in the five Foretellers' relationship as suddenly, one day, news of the existence of a “traitor” surfaces. Who on earth could be the traitor--plagued by their doubt, the balance of the Foretellers will gradually fall apart...

    [KHXBC] is a theatrical production, and is only being produced as a movie (TN: i.e., they have no plans to make this a game, as per the previous interview). By checking out this content in advance, the story should be easier to understand, as well as to make conjectures. Well, since we'll tell you about [KH Dream Drop Distance HD] next time, please check it out!

  6. New Kingdom Hearts series memorial stained glass clock to be showcased on January 9, 2017 at Shinjuku Station in Japan for series 15th anniversary

    Square Enix has just updated their Japanese Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue website with a link to a new memorial site for the Kingdom Hearts series 15th Anniversary containing details on a new Kingdom Hearts series memorial stained glass clock. This stained glass clock will be showcased at Shinjuku Station in Japan from January 9th, 2017 until January 15th, 2017 as part of the series' 15th anniversary. It will also feature a large video screen featuring moments from the Kingdom Hearts and a mural honoring characters and moments from the series.

    The website features the tagline "The story starts moving again."

    Pictures, such as Kingdom Hearts characters from the past 15 years were also exhibited. Check it out below. This will be exhibited as a mural painting.

    There is also a Twitter campaign related to the memorial clock. The campaign invites people to take pictures in person with the memorial clock or to use one of the prepared stained glass images given on the official site with the hashtag #キングダムハーツ15周年.

    For the game player, the Final Fantasy characters are their childhood friends, but that's not the same for the Kingdom Hearts characters we introduced. They're original in their birth and ages, and we introduced them with a different goal in mind.   7. GameInformer reviews Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue in its latest issue.

    GameInformer has reviewed Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue in its latest issue, giving it a rating of 8.5/10 and giving the game its Silver ranking, meaning it's the second best review in this month's issue.

    The review begins with stating that the concept of the game is that it is the PS4 port of Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance and the beginning of Kingdom Hearts III. Also, the voice acting is solid, the graphics are crisp and the environments are very detailed, and the controls are as smooth as ever for a Kingdom Hearts game. The camera controls are also easier to use than in prior games.

    A good portion of the review talks about Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A Fragmentary Passage-, saying that it will be about 3-4 hours long. Getting accessories for Aqua will come from completing quests rather than just opening chests. Each level will have its own mission like finding the 5 gears to get to Cinderella's castle. Also, there is a Critical mode than can be unlocked when you complete the game. There is also going to be a scene that could be from or directly links to Kingdom Hearts III at the end.

    Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover is said to run about an hour long, but is going to be the best visual movie out of all of the HD movies in the series. Dream Drop Distance HD is supposed to run smoother on the PS4 and the touchpad will be used closely to what the touchscreen was on the 3DS.

  8. Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A Fragmentary Passage- ends with a lengthy scene leading into Kingdom Hearts III

    In Game Informer's review for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, it is stated that Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A Fragmentary Passage- ends with a lengthy cutscene that presumably leads into the beginning of Kingdom Hearts III. Gameinformer describes the scene as characters "embarking on the next part of their journey" and that the scene overall moves the story forward.

  9. Game Informer review confirms Critical Mode for Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage- upon completion

    With the first review of the English copy of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue now out and done by Game Informer, this means that now the game has been completed. In their review, Game Informer has confirmed that in Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep - A Fragmentary Passage-, once you complete the game in any mode, you will automatically unlock Critical Mode and you'll be able to replay the game on Critical Mode.

  11. Nomura hints at customization being a possible element in Kingdom Hearts III during interview with Dengeki

    In an extended version of Dengeki PlayStation's interview with Kingdom Hearts series director Tetsuya Nomura, the question was asked of whether or not Kingdom Hearts III would also have customization as a game feature.

    Tetsuya Nomura answered that it would be considered depending on the reaction towards the feature in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A Fragmentary Passage- as well as the consideration of whether or not they have the time to implement it.

    --The character decoration is the first in the series and is a novel component.

    I thought that we needed something fun to play around with even in with the game's jam-packed volume, so the staff devised this at the last minute for me. It really changes the character's look, so please gather a lot of items and design your own Aqua.

    We knew we could insert that feature into the game this time, but whether or not we can with [KHIII]...we have other priorities ahead of us so it depends on time, but we'll look at the reaction with [KH0.2] and consider it.

  13. Hokanko Alt blog post gives details of Famitsu review of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, says Birth by Sleep 0.2 takes around 3 or 4 hours to clear

    Among reviews for various other new games, Hokanko Alt's look into Famitsu's review for the game gives fans a few new insights into Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. Thanks to aibo_ac7 for the tip!

    Their review starts off by saying that Dream Drop Distance HD took around 35 hours to clear, while Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A Fragmentary Passage- took around 3 to 4 hours. It also goes on to say that depending on individual play style, that time can easily be doubled.

    It also says that the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is a great build up for Kingdom Hearts III and also say that Dream Drop Distance HD almost feels like a full remake. The 60 FPS is very smooth and the play is comfortable. They also highly praise Birth by Sleep 0.2, but also say that they wish there was just a little more volume to it. Not much was said about Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover other than it is definitely worth seeing.

    Their final scores for the whole collection are 8/9/8/9.

    [DDD] has a clear time of 35 hours, [0.2] will take about 3 to 4 hours to clear, depending on one's play style--you can enjoy it even longer than that


    This is content that really is steered toward the series fans with the HD remake, along with its new short story and theatrical production. Since this is the first series title to be released on the PS4, by exploring with the short title [0.2], we strongly feel that you will be able to feel even more hopeful for the release of [III]. I'm happy to be releasing three different productions on this system, but when you all understand the weight of it more, that will be even better.


    In order to strengthen the hopes of the fans, we're releasing these three totally different productions that will all tie into [Kingdom Hearts III]. I'm fascinated by the new story we can see in [0.2] with Aqua, and it's the best feeling seeing each of her actions flow together. I have a good feeling with [X BC], too. The “free flow action” in [DDD] is exhilarating, and I'm happy that the play style has become so pleasant with the improvement to 60fps.


    With movements as smooth as flying through the sky, playing in a fighting style that heavily relies on magic goes well with Disney worlds. The remaster of [DDD], which has a more cartoonish touch, is of course included in this, and so is [0.2], which seems like a movie on the PS4--I really felt that feeling again watching them. In regards to the things we've used in the stories thus far, it may leave new users a bit hazy at first, but they do not hinder the player's ability to enjoy the games.


    This is a great product to review the story that will connect us into [III]. The world of [Kingdom Hearts] that's shown on the PS4 is, as expected, brilliant. Since [3D] has been remade in full to HD, if you feel the wonder in that, please buy it. Several things in the game make it easier to play, and I'm happy to see that the new production [0.2] is included as well, but I do wish that one had a bit more volume.


    Buy it this week!

    If you're a fan lying in wait of [III], [Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8] is a title you can't miss. [STEEP] is an important title in which you can explore an open world in the snowy mountains. Also, for those using the PS VR, in [Roller Coaster Dreams], you can make an original jet coaster and fly around. (Ranbu Yoshida)

    First is [New Dangan Ronpa V3]. There are a lot of new nuances added to the “school trials,” but it's nice that it hasn't become more difficult. [Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8] is definitely one not to be missed by its fans. [Treasure Defender] is a game you'll want to play over and over until you have cleared the game without losing a single treasure to the thieves. (Jigoro Ashida)

This blog post discusses Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue's latest feature in Dengeki PlayStation magazine, which also included an interview with series director Tetsuya Nomura.

    This post includes some new screenshots of Birth by Sleep 0.2 -A Fragmentary Passage-, one of the titles featured in the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 collection. Birth by Sleep 0.2 has been described as a lead in to Kingdom Hearts III, both in terms of story as well as gameplay. This blog post goes on to talk about the ties between these two games and what to look foward to in Kingdom Hearts III.

    The first [Kingdom Hearts] on the PS4! Everything that has progressed to the point of the new production is in the [Special Part 2/Dengeki PS].

    Finally, the new production in the [KH] series, [Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (hereby known as KH 2.8)], gives us three titles in beautiful HD -- [KH 0.2 Birth by Sleep -Fragmentary Passage- (hereby known as KH 0.2)], [KH Dream Drop Distance HD], and [KH Back Cover], on the PlayStation4 for the first time. Each of the stories is said to connect to the next title, [KHIII], and both Japanese and international fans are highly anticipating its release.

    The Special Part 2 from Dengeki PlayStation will highlight one of the productions, [KH 0.2], and will dig into the details hidden within what we've seen.

    What has the world of [KH] progressed to on the PS4?

    It might be hard to tell with just screenshots, but the world of [KH] on the PS4 is like watching a Disney anime and is incredibly beautiful! The backgrounds are obviously well done, but the quality of the close-ups are to the point that you can even tell the texture of the things on screen, so you can play as you take in the presence and atmosphere in full.

    This is the first game in the [KH] series to be sold on the PS4, so we think there will be a lot of people really looking at its presentation, but the quality lives up to those high hopes, and its content gives us a feel for being able to enjoy [KHIII] in the same kind of style.

    Aqua appears as the protagonist in the story after [KH Birth by Sleep]

    In what we've seen in highlights of [KH 0.2] thus far, this is a brand-new short game that gives us the answer to what happened to Aqua, who has fallen into the Realm of Darkness to save her friends, at the end of [KH Birth by Sleep (hereby known as KH BbS)].

    Incidentally, Aqua was a protagonist alongside Terra and Ventus in the story of [KH BbS], and she is a young woman who is a Keyblade Master with light movements and excellent magic skills.

    Basically, you control Aqua and continue the story, but along the way, you see a familiar face! King Mickey meets with Aqua, and we saw one highlight of them fighting together.

    Also, the main production (TN: i.e., [KH 2.8]) is supposed to be a prologue to the next game, [KHIII] so we're curious to see how [KH 0.2] ties into it.

    Freedom has been increased with “Situation Commands”! The battle system gives us a wide array of attacks

    This game follows in the footsteps of the action in the PSP [PlayStation Portable] release of [KH BbS]. Double flight and air slide movements, along with style change and shoot lock attacks, can be used freely as you search around the area and fight the Heartless.

    What has mainly been improved from [KH BbS] is the style change system. In [KH BbS], as you continue to attack, the style changes occur automatically, but in the new game, they are a factor called “Situation Command,” and as the gauge above the command menu reaches its maximum, you can perform a situation command. If you press the triangle button, you can do a style change on your own terms.

    In addition, the Situation Command that appears will depend on what attacks you've been using, and if you're using magic, it's possible for your spells to change to the highest tiers, such as Firaga, Blizzaga, and Thundaga! Furthermore, if you've satisfied several different conditions at once, you will be able to choose which style you want with the directional key.

    Each place is different! Our hopes for [KHIII] grow higher

    Once you pass the challenges in a speedrun, you can obtain decoration items, and you can customize Aqua's appearance.

    On top of that, when you use a Firaga spell, the tip of the Keyblade glows like heated iron, and there are several other little details not to be missed.

    The fight with the Devil's Tower--an enemy comprised of countless shadows formed into a mass--is also a must-see! The feeling of that swarm has value even with a single glance.

    Being on the PS4 is a great achievement in progress for [Kingdom Hearts]. They've powered up a lot of points, and by playing [KH 0.2], you'll probably be even more excited for [KHIII].

    The graphics, story, battle system, etc. of [KH 0.2] will connect to each point of [KHIII]. We want you all to full experience the new [KH] that has progressed to the PS4.

    A one thousand piece jigsaw puzzle featuring the art on the cover of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is being produced by the Tenyo company in Japan. This puzzle will release in mid-February, around a month after Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue releases in Japan and then worldwide shortly after.   18. Nomura interview with Dengeki discussing Kingdom Hearts 2.8, Kingdom Hearts III, and series' 15th Anniversary.

    Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura was interviewed in this week's issue of Dengeki. In the interview, he discusses about the importance of 2.8, the status of Kingdom Hearts III, and what we may expect for the KH 15th anniversary.

    - Remasters tend to be neglected, but the staff dedicated themselves to putting in as much content as they could without affecting making progress on KH3

    - In 0.2 they followed on from the premise from the first title, that the worlds of BBS fell to darkness, but they went to great lengths to balance the volume of the new maps, as it's boring to have similar locations over and over

    - One feature is that they put in a lot of varying platforms, Nomura is secure in his faith in the development team's high ability to compose maps

    - Gameplay-wise, 0.2 does differ from KH3 in some fundamental ways, but it's an opportunity to get a feel for KH in PS4 quality

    - Regarding lighting, he's currently considering how to do it on current gen consoles without damaging the vibe, and is going at it through trial and error, such as getting guidance from Visual Works, so it's going to look even better than it does now

    - Regarding Situational Commands, there's been some trial and error, how to make sure it doesn't look like a simple quick time event etc.

    - Situational Commands are the evolved form of KH2's Reaction Commands, and pivotal to KH3

    - In 0.2 you can use higher level magic early, but he doesn't think KH3 will work like that

    - Regarding the characters that appeared in the final trailer - look forward to experiencing it in the game

    - Cutscenes created for next-gen consoles look unfamiliar in ways, but he thinks it's coming together, they have to remake all the character models which is a big job

    - Characters in KHBC have faces hidden with masks, so he made sure to give them all individual personalities

    - Keen players may have noticed that 'sin' is the keyword of KHUχ

    - KH3D, with flowmotion and a light-paced scenario, was a turning point, so KH3 starts there

    - The boxart for KHHD1.5 and 2.5 connects, so he's probably not doing a special illustration

    - Regarding development for KH3, they're battling through remaking all the models but it's moving along so he'd like you to not to worry. He's currently working on the timing for announcing new information. He'd like to tie it into the KH 15th anniversary event but it's not decided yet

    - He wants you to play 0.2 after having seen KH3D's secret movie, KHBC is completely stand-alone so you can enjoy it any time

    - KH2.8, as the title suggests, is the prologue to the final chapter: the story of KH3 has already begun

    --The Situation Command in the battle system is a really interesting combination of the old reaction commands and command styles.

    That was definitely a trial and error process. When I watched the Situation Command in the PV, I saw that the triangle mark came out more as a QTE (Quick Time Event) marker.

    However, when we displayed the command window to the side, it was hard to see whether or not it was usable, and we were unsure of what to do. We settled into adding the message “STANDING BY” in the end.

    It's not “push it,” it's more of a “you can push it now” kind of feeling.

    --The Situation Command is a command that matches up to a player's fulfillment of certain conditions, right?

    We had thought to put that method into [KHIII] while working on its beginning stages. There are many commands you can put into use, and we decided to make it so that the player can chose the command in a certain length of time.

    I think that the system has come to hold a lot of breadth in battles, when thinking of this as the progression of the [KHII] reaction commands. In [KHIII], we're thinking that this system will become a large axis.

    --It seems like you can use the higher level magic skills like “Firaga” and “Thundaga” in the Situation Commands.

    [KH0.2]'s system is tightly packed with content, so the player's character suddenly can use higher magic, but even if the same content appears in [KHIII], I don't think you'll be able to use it so suddenly.

    --While playing [KH0.2], I couldn't believe that the Heartless could do that much damage. (laughs)

    The Realm of Darkness influences the Shadows to increase their strength at times. In the E3 trial game, you could fight against a conglomeration of Shadows as a boss, but the reason we were able to create that boss fight with so much movement on screen was definitely because of the current hardware's spec.

    --The character decoration is the first in the series and is a novel component.

    I thought that we needed something fun to play around with even in with the game's jam-packed volume, so the staff devised this at the last minute for me. It really changes the character's look, so please gather a lot of items and design your own Aqua.

    --Will you use the decoration feature in [KHIII]?

    We knew we could insert that feature into the game this time, but whether or not we can with [KHIII]...we have other priorities ahead of us so it depends on time, but we'll look at the reaction with [KH0.2] and consider it.

    --There was also a meeting between Aqua and King Mickey shown, as well as them fighting together.

    In the Realm of Darkness, the fact that Aqua and King Mickey met is something that the fans have grasped up to this point, I think. Until meeting King Mickey, Aqua was on her own, so it was hard to write dialogue for it all. After meeting the King, the conversation becomes more lively.

    --In the final trailer, we briefly saw Terra and Terranort...

    You can look forward to the details when you play. By the way, the Terra in that scene is connected to the official concert “First Breath” and his conversation with Namine.

    --We were also able to see Sora, Donald, and Goofy in the final trailer, and I think that was a really happy moment for fans.

    Even now, I'm starting to get used to the next game's event scenes a bit, but I've still got a ways to go, I think. The [KH] series up to this point is using the first game's character models and scenery as a work base.

    But, since the hard spec of [KHIII] is so different, we have to start from the ground up, and it's been difficult.

    --There was also a scene with Riku and the King in new clothes, and I'm looking forward to their debut in [KHIII].

    The costume design is already done, and it's really nice. Just between you and me, the outfit that Riku is wearing in the [KH X] three-year anniversary illustration was used as the base.

    The new characters leave an impression in just one glance!

    --[KHBC] is a brand-new theatrical production, so what did you become aware of while making the event scenes?

    All of the Foretellers' faces are hidden behind masks, and you can't even see the mouths of the Master or Luxu. In other words, you can't see their expressions, but we were conscious of giving them personalities that would give each character charm as they are.

    The main characters are mostly appearing for the first time, as well as being voiced for the first time, so we had to empathize with the users during this short production.

    --The scene with the Master speaking really surprised me with a mood that hasn't appeared in the [KH] series so far. (laughs)

    That's just the Master's personality, so we can't help that. (laughs)

    --The Master's light way of speaking stands out, but he also has an eeriness to him in which you can't read his thoughts.

    A very cool and calculative character is maybe too easy to understand. Thinking of all of this, the embodiment of “a strangely amazing guy” inside of me became the Master.

    He is incredibly sincere, so whatever he's up against, won't he conduct himself in that way?

    --I think that the Master's personality is also influenced by the performance of Tomokazu Sugita.

    We worried about the cast a lot. Since we had decided on how we wanted to picture the Master, after that, we searched for someone who could perform that kind of drama.

    When I was thinking of someone who could really handle the gaps in conversation, I thought that maybe Sugita-san was qualified. We recorded each voice actor one by one, but that doesn't make it feel like a conversation.

    --We also saw a lot of unique dialogue, but was there any ad-lib by the voice actors?

    There was no ad-lib. So, the dialogue was all scripted. However, there is one line by Aced that isn't by the script.

    In the scene with the Master and Aced talking, Aced bites back his words, but we thought it fit the scene and was interesting, so we were allowed to use it.

    --With voices and movements, I think the players' impression of the Fortellers will change.

    With some of the players of [KH X] and [KH Unchained X], their impressions of the Foretellers might be firm, so I also worried about that reaction when I watched [KHBC]. They might come to hate Aced...

    --We also saw a scene in the trailer where Aced's emotions erupted.

    Still, I think if you follow the story calmly you'll understand, but actually, Aced is always making sound arguments. After writing the scenes for [KHBC], I became watchful of making sure none of the characters could be perceived as very bad or very good.

    However, Ava is still a good girl in the end, huh? (laughs) Well, Ava is the one pulling the most strings of tension in the story, so that doesn't mean she's without sin, either.

    --In [KH Unchained X], if you use the strength bangle to change your guilt into strength, it seems like “sin” becomes a keyword...?

    I think users who pay attention will pick up on that as well. It means an important preface has already begun.

    --We got a bit of a close-up of Ephemer, but will he appear more in [KH Unchained X]?

    Both Ephemer and Skuld will come to be pretty important in season 2 of [KH Unchained X]. The story of [KH X] is over, and [KH Unchained X] is following another storyline, but their relationship will be talked about more in season 2, so please wait for a follow-up.

    --Since the story of [KH Unchained X] is continuing on, is there the possibility of making a sequel to [KHBC] in regards to the back side of the story...?

    We don't think so right now. In regards to the Foretellers, we plan to delve deeper into their characters during [KH Unchained X].

    --The prototype of [KHDDD]-- [KH3D]--is a four year old game, but do you have any memories from that time?

    I think that for me, [KH3D] was a turning point in our action aspect and scenario aspect. We tried doing dynamic jumps with the Free Flow Action in the action aspect, and in the scenes we tried to add a lighter feel.

    It's a title that also determines the direction of future [KH] titles, so for me, [KHIII] started from [KH3D].

    -- In the HD remaster, there are three new Spirits added, right?

    It's kind of a lively addition. Pondanyan, Biitopoi, and Yuagari Penkin were chosen from a number of different plans. It's kind of funny that Yuagari Penkin isn't actually living up to its name. (laughs) (TN: Yuagari means “having just gotten out of the bath”)

    --There are over fifty Spirits in the game, but do you have a favorite one?

    It's probably Wandanyan. Each time we create a new species of enemies, there's always one base (for Heartless, it's the Shadows, for Nobodies, the Dusks), but for the Dream Eaters, it was Wandanyan, so I have a lot of memories with it.

    A bit earlier, for a display at Artnia (the official cafe/shop of Square Enix), I was searching for the original picture, and at that time I found my original picture for Wandanyan, and to be honest, it looked more like a doodle... I'm surprised at how cute he's become in the end from that design.

    --At the time of [KH3D]'s release, you could obtain AR cards with Spirits in them, but how does it work with [KHDDD]?

    All of the Spirits that were in the AR cards are obtainable in the game.

    --In March of 2017, you'll be releasing [KH HD 1.5 + 2.5], but is there anything that has changed in the games?

    It's the same content as the previous two HD remasters. Since all six games have been combined into one disc for the PS4, it's easier to play.

    --Do you think you'll design a special package illustration for [KH 1.5 + 2.5]?

    I probably won't. Since the three package illustrations for [1.5], [2.5], and [2.8] are all connected, to draw a new one would mean that it's not connected with that.

    To the people thinking, “What is he talking about?”, please look at the three illustrations lined up next to each other.

    --After [KH2.8] has released, it's finally time to start the wait for [KHIII].

    As I mentioned before about the development, we've had to start all the models over from scratch with a large volume, so it's been very difficult, but please be at ease, because it is progressing. I have a lot of new information I want to share with you all, but now it's just a matter of timing.

    2017 is the [KH] series' fifteenth anniversary, and there will be all kinds of anniversary events shown at the concert, so if possible I'd like to take those chances to tie in news about [KHIII], but that still has yet to be decided. We're sorry to make you wait, but please wait just a little longer.

    --Please give a message to the fans waiting to buy [KH2.8].

    Not just to those who have not played [KH3D], but to those who have already played it and remember the story, please give [KHDDD] a play. If you can get it, I recommend playing [KH0.2] after watching the secret movie (for [KHDDD]).

    For the fans waiting for [KHIII], [KH0.2] has some content I'd really like you to try out. [KHBC] is a little bit separated from the original story, so I think you can enjoy that one whenever you'd like.

    As the title says, [KH2.8] is certainly the final “prologue.” The story of [KHIII] has already begun.

    Welcome to KH13’s coverage for Jump Festa 2017! Jump Festa is an expo based in Tokyo, Japan, that focuses on a vast variety of content such as manga, anime, video games, as well as merchandise. Jump Festa 2017 will take place on December 17th and December 18th of 2016 and both Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX have been confirmed to appear at the event.

  20. New screenshots and renders included in the latest Famitsu Weekly's Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue feature; trophies available for Kingdom Hearts HD Dream Drop DIstance

    The latest issue of Famitsu Weekly contains a 4-page spread on Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, featuring new renders and screenshots from the game that show off cinematic scenes and new and returning gameplay elements.

    New images include gameplay images from Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage. The article features the costume customizations of Aqua, including a new pattern for her outfit. Aqua is also seen fighting against Darksides in the Enchanted Dominion area of the Dark World. Some of the screenshots were previewed online yesterday on the Famitsu website. Previous Weekly Shonen Jump screenshots of Aqua performing the magic-activated combo "Thundagun", and the finishing attack with Mickey for the "Wayfinder" Command Style at Destiny Islands, are also shown.

    Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover is also featured. A new CG image and render of Ephemer and the Master of Master's 6th apprentice (Luxu) holding Master Xehanort's Keyblade are also available. A close-up of Ephemer in a cinematic scene is also shown. Some of the new cinematic screenshots extend from the scenes shown in the final trailer for KH2.8. For instance, Master Ava and Master Gula are shown looking at a sleeping young Chirithy inside a flask. A new screenshot of the Master of Master and Luxu talking is shown. Gameplay images and renders include the new elephant Dream Eater, as well as another new Dream Eater with the appearance of a Penguin in a hot bath. The elephant Dream Eater is called Beat Poi, a pun on the character Beat from The World Ends WIth You on which its design is based. The penguin Dream Eater is called Yuagari Penguin, which translates to "Spa Penguin."

  21. Famitsu releases 3 new screenshots from Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue

    Famitsu updated their website with three new screenshots from Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue. These screenshots serve as a teaser for the upcoming December 29th issue of Famitsu, which will release on December 15. They can be viewed below.

    We can see Sora fighting in Kingdom Hearts HD Dream Drop Distance. There is a new Nightmare Dream Eater on a skateboard; this looks like a Zolephant, except for the different coloring and a black helmet with wings. Famitsu teases by claiming that it looks familiar; in fact, the new monster seems to be a reference to the character of Beat from The World Ends With You. The reference is detailed in the spoiler box below.

    This is not the only new Dream Eater to be present in the HD PS4 remake of the 3DS game. Previously, another Dream Eater called Catanuki was revealed to have been added to the game by the Osaka production team. This is also not the first time a Dream Eater has been modelled after a TWEWY character: the spirit Sudo Neku is in fact inspired by Neku Sakuraba.

    We also see Aqua and Mickey fighting side by side in Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-, ready to perform the finishing attack for the Wayfinder Command Style.

    And finally, the hooded figure with the mysterious Keyblade from Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover also makes an appearance. Famitsu details that this is the Master of Master's sixth apprentice, Luxu, quoting his Master: "May your hearts be your guiding key." (Thanks to Keytotruth for the translation.) The Keyblade seems to be the same as Master Xehanort's Keyblade. Famitsu also teases that a new CG picture of Ephemera might be available in their next issue, as they encourage readers to check the picture below as well as "Ephemera's new CG" picture as well.

  22. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue Japanese website releases new screenshots, renders, summaries and character descriptions

    The Japanese website for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue has been updated. New screenshots and character renders have been added for each installment. There is also quite a bit of story, character, and world information within.

    For Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD, even more screenshots and renders are available through the "World" button, with each world receiving its own page. Additionally, the "Scene" button of the Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover page shows more screenshots from various scenes of the movie. Unfortunately, the page for Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage- does not include its own unique button with additional images, instead only receiving the more general "Story" and "Character" sections.

  23. Weekly Shōnen Jump includes feature on gameplay from Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-

    The latest Weekly Shōnen Jump issue features a page dedicated to certain gameplay attributes of Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-, the newest playable chapter from the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue PS4 collection.

    The spread shows four new screenshots from the game, including a still of Aqua and Mickey getting ready to perform a finishing attack ("Wayfinder") at Destiny Islands. The last three screenshots show a combo of consecutive attacks: Aqua performing a Thunder spell, then slashing the enemy with her Keyblade, and finally performing an attack against the enemy that is described to be more powerful than her previous Thunder attack. According to translations by Keytotruth: "You use magic and it enables a magic melee combo which later in the combo allows you to use the magic in the highest tier." This is similar to what series director Tetsuya Nomura referenced in a Dengeki Online interview, where he remarked that using magic in certain sequences will result in differently consequential attacks on enemies.

    In all the screenshots, Mickey is accompanying Aqua in battle. In the final Japanese and English trailers for the game, the full Aqua-Mickey Wayfinder attack is shown.

  24. Analysis of the final Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue trailer

    A new Japanese trailer for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue was released on December 8 at 10am EST, accompanied by an announcement noting that it is the final trailer before the release of the game in January 2017. The English trailer was released a few hours later.

    KH2.8 FCP is a PlayStation 4 collection of three stories from the series which make up the prologue to Kingdom Hearts III; the HD remaster Kingdom Hearts HD Dream Drop Distance running at 60fps, the HD cinematic Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover, and Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage-, a brand new playable chapter.

    The final trailer showcased an array of cinematics and interesting scenes from all three games, along with new gameplay footage from KH0.2. The English and Japanese trailers feature the -Ray of Hope MIX- versions of Simple and Clean and Hikari respectively; in the trailers, it is revealed that the remixes have been produced by PUNPEE. The trailer begins with an insignia for the Kingdom Hearts series' upcoming 15th anniversary on March 2017.

    Kingdom Hearts HD Dream Drop Distance

    The beginning of the trailer skips through various short scenes from the game remastered in HD. Some scenes from KH3D are shown in remastered form for the first time, such as Young Xehanort talking to Sora during his déjà vu scene in Traverse Town and Sora's meeting with Roxas in The World that Never Was. No gameplay footage was shown.

    A myriad of short fascinating montage from KHχ BC was shown in the trailer, creating more intrigue to the story playing behind the scenes of Kingdom Hearts χ and Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ. Many scenes show a hooded figure in an Organization XIII coat; it is sometimes possible to predict whether this is the Master of Masters or Luxu thanks to voiceovers, body movements, and previous knowledge of the story.

    The short scenes at the beginning of the trailer, which are without dialogue, include: an aerial view of the Daybreak Town Clock Tower; the Master of Masters talking to the five Foretellers in the study; Ava looking at a young sleeping Chirithy inside a flask, with Ira and Aced in the background and Gula approaching her; a close-up of Ira talking; a Chirithy looking up at Ava in the streets of Daybreak Town; a view of Daybreak Town at dusk from an alley; and Ava talking while looking up at the sky, sitting on the fountain. A short scene depicts a hooded figure holding a Keyblade that resembles Master Xehanort's Keyblade (shown below). This could be Luxu, as he was seen holding the same Keyblade in the TGS 2016 trailer; the Keyblade was also shown hanging on the wall in the E3 2015 Kingdom Hearts III trailer (as you can see below). What are the origin and the significance of this mysterious Keyblade, and how did Master Xehanort come to possess it so many years later?

    There are some new scenes with voiceover that leave one wondering about the Kingdom Hearts origin story leading up to the Keyblade War. The Master of Masters is seen walking away from the hilltop near Daybreak Town, saying that whatever is written on the last page of the Book is going to happen. Ira is seen reading his copy of the Book of Prophecies and stating that they (the Foretellers) are there to make sure that light lives on. Aced is shown to get ready to fight Invi, Ava, and Gula, who have their Keyblades out. He insists that if the Foretellers take no action, light will expire; this suggests his extreme disapproval of blindly following the events as written in the Book. In response to the doom foretold by the Master of Masters, Ava is seen crouching in Fountain Square staring at some dandelions on the ground, with her mournful voiceover asking the Master if there is anything they can do.

    Some more scenes play rapidly towards the end of the trailer, but give rise to many questions regarding the plot of KHχ BC. The camera closes up on a surprised-looking Gula standing in the dark streets of Daybreak Town, with his voiceover remarking that everyone wants to know about the Lost Page. Invi's voiceover states that if everyone is collecting light, they are only doing it for themselves. This plays over a new battle scene between Invi and Aced under the rain, which gives an outlook on Invi's elegant and strategic battle style compared to Aced's use of rough force and movements.

    The next scene shows the Master of Masters saying, "'May your hearts be your guiding key'... I say it all the time!" before patting Invi's head. "Ultimately you need to do what your heart feels is right!" Many scenes are shown in rapid sequence including: a young Chirithy leaping inside its flask while a hooded figure watches and pokes the glass; a hooded figure ripping off a page from the Book of Prophecies; a crouched Gula grabbing Ava's hand in an alley; and Ira bending over and talking to a crouched Aced under the rain. A close-up of the hooded figure, possibly Luxu, with Xehanort's Keyblade is shown, walking through a wasteland and dragging a big, heavy case. The case has many locks, a peculiar silver and red emblem with 13 spikes, and writing in the middle of the emblem (a picture is available below for reference). The last KHχ BC scene in the trailer shows a hooded figure looking down from the Daybreak Town Clock Tower.

    Interestingly, a scene from KH0.2 immediately follows the Master of Master’s nuance about the heart being “guiding key”, with Mickey repeating the same aphorism with a different wording.

    It could be speculated that it was the Master of Masters who tore out the page from the Book of Prophecies, as he was seen flipping through it in the TGS 2016 trailer. In that same trailer, the mysterious sealed box can also be seen in the background behind him (refer to the picture below) as he tells Luxu that he "better get started", and that unfortunately he will have to "go alone from here on out". Luxu then looks at his Keyblade - Master Xehanort's Keyblade - and asks, "What about the others?" Is there a connection between Luxu's 'mission' and the reason why he was seen dragging the sealed box across some badlands, with that Keyblade in hand?

    Another fascinating observation is the writing on the sealed case (shown below). On close inspection, it says 'XSuper' (or "YSuper", the first letter is unclear). Interestingly, the six Foretellers are all named after six of the seven deadly sins, which in Latin are written as ira (wrath), acedia (sloth), invidia (envy), avaritia (greed), gula (gluttony), and luxuria (lust). The only missing sin is superbia (pride), which is similar to the writing on the case. What does this imply? What might be inside the case? Does it link with a possible seventh Foreteller? Or is super(bia) connected to the name of the Master of Masters, who is a foreteller himself?

    The HD cinematics shown in this final trailer bring out the beauty, attention to detail, and an ethereal luminescence, especially in world scenery, in KHχ BC. This only increases excitement to see more Kingdom Hearts cinematic work achieved with the help of the Unreal Engine 4.

    Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage- [GAMEPLAY]

    The KH2.8 final trailer put focus on impressing fans with 30 seconds of brand new gameplay footage. All the worlds shown in the trailer seem to be part of the Dark World; for convenience, they will be referred to as individual worlds, while in actuality they are fragments of worlds that have been "fused together."

    At the beginning of the trailer, Aqua is shown to get ready to battle her reflection - also previously shown in the TGS 2016 trailer - possibly inside the Magic Mirror from the Dwarf Woodlands. She's also shown battling a number of Darksides in an area of the Enchanted Dominion surrounded by thorns; the Darksides are able to deliver a particularly powerful attack using red balls of energy that are seen floating in the sky. In the gameplay footage, she is clearing her path through a thick growth of tree limbs covered with black and glowing red thorns; when she strikes them down with her Master's Defender Keyblade; the thorns slide away.

    There are slight changes in the HUD, as Aqua's static status icon looks darker and more refined than in previous trailers (see the comparison below). Mini maps are shown for the first time as the player plays in through the thorny territory, a cave full of icicles, and against the Darksides. The mini maps retain much of the design used for Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep, but with a more compact and blended layout to accompany the multilayered environment, and the guiding Kingdom Key icon leaving a dotted trail in the path the player takes.

    A new HUD element debuts in this trailer in the form of yellow arrows above the Command Menu, much like the Command Gauge in KH BBS. In the trailer, while Aqua battles the Darksides, a third yellow arrow is added as she uses Firaga, much like how the Command Gauge is filled to trigger certain Style Changes by executing specific attacks. This was not present in the previous trailers or demos for the game. Could Square Enix have changed the way command styles work?

    Like the E3 demo, two pages of Shortcut commands were available.

    The player is able to play with Mickey as a companion, and is able to access Destiny Islands, which greatly resemble the remains of the world from the End of the World in the first Kingdom Hearts game. The trailer shows Mickey delivering a blow to a Devil's Wave (a swarm of Shadow Heartless) towards Aqua, who then performs a special attack which shoots golden chains to trap the Heartless. A new Command Style is introduced - 'Wayfinder'; the finisher for this style is shown with Aqua and Mickey shooting orbs of golden light against the chained Heartless, and Aqua shooting a final ray of energy against the enemies, which burst out of the chains as they break. Could this Command Style be influenced by the wielded Keyblade - in this case, Eraqus's Master's Defender? In fact, the chain attack greatly resembles attacks used by the Armor of Eraqus in Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep Final Mix.

    A gameplay element that took fans by surprise is the ability to customize Aqua's appearance. This is the first time this level of customization is available in the series with the exception of KHχ/KHUχ for PC and smartphone. The player can customize accessories on Aqua's head, arms, and back by accessing "Wardrobe" from the Main Menu. One can also change the pattern and color of Aqua's clothing, specifically of her drapings and sleeves. The color customization includes a Color Bar that can change the color balance of Red, Blue, and Green. The base color can be chosen on a color Palette. The Color History helps the player save the desired colors for future use. Further effects can be added with a Gradation option, where the player can choose a Top Color and Bottom Color to create a gradient on Aqua's clothing; there is also a Color History to save desired Gradations. It is unclear whether these customizations are carried forward to cutscenes, like Sora's Drive Forms are in Kingdom Hearts II.

    A list of Aqua's customizations shown in the English trailer can be found below. One of the head customizations include "Marie", which could possibly be white cat ears inspired by the white kitten from Aristocats.


    The main menu of the game shows options for Objectives, Wardrobe, Customize, Story, Config, and Help. The different customization scenes in the trailer are shown while the player is in different areas of the Dark World (with its world icon shown in one corner of the menu) namely "The World Within" and "Depth of Darkness". The background of the menu in each location is different, with "The World Within" showing a circular platform with towers and arches surrounding it.

    Battle and exploration in KH0.2 are coupled by a Flowmotion-like element that has been present in previous trailers and demos. Aqua is seen sliding on branches in the Enchanted Dominion through thorns and Darksides trying to hit her. When hit, Aqua gracefully pirouettes in the air. She is able to slide to a branch near a looming Darkside and prepares to attack it. Much like the E3 2016 demo, and Sora and Riku in Kingdom Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance and KH HD DDD, Aqua glows when using this version of "Flowmotion".

    In the trailer, the player explores the Magic Mirror Chamber in the Dwarf Woodlands. Compare tod KH BBS, the Chamber looks much bigger and much more detailed, with the Unreal Engine 4 and Kingdom Shader giving the world a sophisticated touch that creates a fantastical, "Disney" feel to it. The size of this area can also be inferred from the mini map, which shows a circular platform with two more chambers.
    This area also has a partly distorted and shattered design, just like Castle of Dreams in the previous trailers and demo. Another scene shows the player exploring with Mickey, running towards the exit of a cave full of icicles. Again, the level of detail and the manipulation of lighting, seen by the reflections on the rocky ground and the ice crystals and shadows, greatly enhances the visual experience of playing KH0.2. This goes hand-in-hand with the various movements of the characters during gameplay as well as objects, such as fog. The staggering effect of the lighting can also be seen in the uncommon glow in the eyes of the enemy Heartless, which plays a part in bringing them to life like never before.
    Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep -A Fragmentary Passage- [CINEMATICS]

    The stunning graphical enhancement can also be noticed during cinematics. A particular view of Destiny Island shows a stark contrast to the flatter imagery shown in the KHIII announcement trailer.

    Some quick scenes are shown at the beginning of the trailer, such as: Aqua's Wayfinder falling into Mickey's hand; a dark place resembling the Keyblade Graveyard, with many keychain-less Keyblades (such as Fenrir) stuck or fallen on the ground; a closeup of Kairi speaking to Riku in the Mysterious Tower; Aqua staring at her reflection in the Magic Mirror Chamber; and Ven and Terra walking towards the forest, perhaps in the Dwarf Woodlands. In this last scene, Ven's clothes show a color mismatch previously observed on a Shonen Jump screenshot; however, this does not appear to be consistent with the appearance of Ven in the rest of the trailer. It is unclear whether this was intentional, or something that could be fixed before the release of the game next month.

    One of the new scenes shown for KH0.2 was that of Aqua running towards Terra and Ven in the Enchanted Dominion. When she calls to them, Terra turns around and calls her back, asking if she can see him. Terra's appearance looks more refined than as reported from fans who have played the E3 2016 demo. She is surprised to see him - perhaps because he is actually talking back, unlike in Castle of Dreams in the E3 2016 demo - and replies that she can see Ven as well. Ven, however, keeps his head down and eyes closed, as if sleeping, and does not respond. This raises questions as to whether these versions of Terra and Ven are only illusions (like the Terra from the E3 2016 demo) or actual connections to their real selves. Or are they distortions created by the darkness, eager to consume the light in Aqua's heart? Something else that is unclear is whether Terra's original voice actor, Jason Dohring, is reprising his role or whether this is a different voice actor.

    The scene changes to Aqua and Mickey on a fragmented and distorted version of Destiny Islands. As mentioned before, this version of the Islands looks very similar to the version found at The End of the World in the first KH game. Mickey asks if Aqua knows this place, and she replies that she has visited it once before. A flashback of Aqua patting young Sora's and Riku's heads follows, with Aqua commenting that she had met two boys here that she considered bequeathing the Keyblade to.

    Following the scene from KHχ BC where the Master of Masters comments on following one's heart, somewhere in the Dark World, Mickey repeats, "May our hearts be our guiding key," to which Aqua replies that it is a phrase no one has used in ages. Mickey comments that it is something that he likes to try to remember. Where has Aqua heard this phrase before? Is this a saying she heard from Master Eraqus? If so, who did he hear it from? The association of the two games by this phrase provokes inquiry about the connection between the origin story of KHχ BC and the present.

    Terranort (Terra's body possessed by Master Xehanort) and Terra are shown as two individual figures, with Terranort grabbing Terra's skull as Terra struggles to break free. Here, Terra is enveloped in a thin layer of golden light. Another scene shows a great hand grabbing a semi-conscious Ven while Aqua turns towards them, bewildered; the enemy is cloaked with a thick layer of glittering light. It extends its other hand towards Aqua, ready to snatch her. Mickey is then shown approaching a floating, glowing Kingdom Key D in the darkness. A new scene starts, with what resembles the formation of Kingdom Hearts in the Keyblade Graveyard in KH BBS, as seen from the distance by a cloaked figure. The scene is not very clear; however, it seems as if the figure has a Keyblade on the ground in front of him. The Keyblade's design and silhouette matches that of Master Xehanort's, and the protruding blue orb looks like the keychain on Master Xehanort's Keyblade. Does this mean there is a third person - apart from DiZ - who is present in the Dark World with Aqua and Mickey, and that they are wielding Master Xehanort's Keyblade? Is this Luxu, and if so, how is this chronologically possible? Perhaps this scene is a scene from the ending of
    KHUχ/KHχ BC, retold from this character's perspective. It could also be the ending to KH BBS; but if so, it raises the question as to how there can be a second Master Xehanort's Keyblade when during this scene, Terranort was holding onto it. (It should be kept in mind that, however unlikely, it is possible for a Keyblade to be wielded in two different places at the same time.)

    A young Riku, with his original KH and Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories attire, makes an appearance, running in the darkness. Soon after, Mickey is shown lying on the floor in the dark, trying to look up; he is surrounded by a faint glimmer of golden lights, and is wearing the same outfit (consisting only of shorts) he wore in the first KH game. Will KH0.2 also show Mickey's journey in the Realm of Darkness after the events of the first game, and his first meeting with Riku after closing the door to Kingdom Hearts? Will this be a flashback or a playable episode? The scene follows to the present, where Riku swings a suitcase over his shoulder while Mickey holds one of his own. They seem to be in the Mysterious Tower. Are they off to search for the "previous Keyblade wielders"? Riku's and Mickey's suitcases show a beautiful pattern of Mickey-head silhouettes and hearts, and perhaps even Keyblades and crowns; Riku's pattern is blue on black, while Mickey's is red on black.

    The development in graphical details seems to unravel around the cinematics of KH0.2, and the revamped effect of lighting is especially noticeable when it contrasts with the murkiness of the Dark World. The glow on reflective surfaces, such as watery and metallic surfaces, the delineation of different textures, and the careful placement of shadows give a very realistic feel and show the great care the production team has put in enriching every characteristic and particular of the worlds' elements as possible.

    The trailer ends on a wonderful note, showing none other than the protagonist of the Kingdom Hearts series himself running up the steps to the Yen Sid's Tower in his KHII clothes. Sora meets Donald and Goofy at the door, the latter who comments that he has been gone a long time and asks him what he has been up to. Sora scratches his cheek in his habitual manner and laughs, replying that it's a secret. Haley Joel Osment's and Bill Farmer's returning voices are distinguishable, and from playing KH3D, it can be assumed that Sora had just returned from his trip to Traverse Town to meet the Dream Eater Spirits. Sora's face is finally shown at the end, when he opens the door and leans forward, exclaiming "I'm back!" - quite reminiscent of the indelible ending to KHII.
